I have a maxed out 15" M3 MBA and a base spec M4 Mini, and not going to get a Neo.

@The Cockney Rebel Since your M2 MBA is 13", I predict you would tire of the Neo very quickly. If it had been 15" you might appreciate the Neo for its portability.

I think the low price will tempt a lot of Mac enthusiasts into buying one out of curiosity, even though they are not the target market.

There could be some good used bargains as the novelty wears off!

There are occasions where I need more than an iPad, but I don’t want to heft my 16” MBP. I’d contemplated getting a 13” MBA as a second portable but (a) it’s expensive, and (b) not sure the extra maintenance (updating macOS, installing/updating apps, managing general setup) is worth the benefits I’d get.

Well, (a) isn’t as much an issue now 😉 so revisiting (b). I’m a “definitely maybe” Neo customer.

Ed: Oh, just realized I never answered the OP’s actual question. M1 Max 32/1TB MBP; M4 Pro mini; M1 mini.

Just ordered 2 Neo w/ Touch ID & 512GB at EDU pricing - Indigo and Citrus for travel use.

2 Neos at EDU pricing = 1 MBA !!!

Currently have M3 Ultra Studio, M4 Mac mini as file server using 10G connection to the M3 Ultra, and a non-trade-in 10" iPad 10th Gen.

I've pre-ordered my Neo. It will allow me to perform the daily trivial workloads such as Mail, Safari, Numbers, and video streaming when on the go or not in my office man cave and I consider it to be much more cost effective than the MBA models. Previously tried M4 MBA along with my 10" iPad but the cost of the M4 MBA caused me to return it as it was costly for what I needed a laptop for.

I can use Time Machine to backup Neo to my M4 mini file server over night via Wi-Fi.

15" Air M4 24/512 Air, just ordered a base Neo. Will be nice to have MacOS for travel without risking my main machine when I won't need all the capability. As a computer-lite in this middle area, I've tried the old 12" (great form factor, runs hot and battery life is poor), iPad + keyboard (iPadOS makes it just a bigger duplicate of my phone), base M2 Air (too expensive for what I need, not capable enough to cover more of my use), and the Surface Laptop Go (not worth the hassle of adding another OS). The footprint of the Neo seems to be right between the old 12" and the current 13" Air. Unfortunately it is thicker, but if it feels and is more

I have a M4 Mac mini with 24 GB of RAM and 512GB of storage along with a M3 iPad Air. I bought the Neo because I want something on a budget that is portable and will run the MacOS software I need. While I do like the M3 iPad Air, I can't run MacOS specific software on it.

I have an M2 MBA, M2 MBP & an M4 iMac.

For some reason, I’m contemplating getting a Neo.

What about you?
M1Max Studio with ASD
M2 iPad Air

I am really looking into replacing my iPad with the Neo, it would be the base model as I do not need the storage. I'm using my iPad pretty much solely as a couch computer with primarily web and a couple apps. I do not enjoy typing on it and I wouldn't want a keyboard, so I'll go to the Apple Store in the next 2 weeks or so and will take a look.
And guess, citrus is my first color choice 😉

I don't have any AS Macs, but have recent phones and iPads.

I am thinking of updating my 2014 Core i7 MBP to a Neo. I can't think of any way it wont be an upgrade.

In fact one aspect of the Neo's popularity will be people like me who have held on to older machines and now can no brainer upgrade to AS.

I initially balked at ordering one as it weighs the same as my MBA. I rationalized it by defining the neo’s role as my travel laptop that i won’t have to worry about getting scratched or lost (knocks on wood). I need a laptop just to transfer my video clips from my camera to an ssd for later editing and as backup. I never edit during the trip. The ipad’s files app is wonky for a large qty of not so small files. Traded my ipad mini for the Neo.

I tried trading in my 10" iPad 10th Gen for the Neo, but Apple refused and said it can only be accepted for recycling! How did you manage to trade in your iPad mini for the Neo when buying directly from Apple?

I used the apple store app. It should show up as a choice from your list of apple devices. Don’t use the website.

did you use the "trade in another device link at the bottom?

Just pre-ordered a Neo 512gb/TouchID version in Citrus color. Traded my iPad Pro 11" M1 (I barely used it anymore) for $345.00 credit, knocking off half the price.

I currently use a MBP M1 Max 64gb as my stay at home main laptop. Have a M3 & M4 mac mini. And have a iPad Pro 12.9" M2 that gets plenty of usage.

The Neo will be replacing my Surface Pro 11(Snapdragon X plus). I really liked the Surface Pro 11, but it's proven to be too unreliable with constant crashes.

My only gripe about the Neo would be no illuminated keyboard. But at this price, that's a small sacrifice.

The Neo pricing feels like the MBA M1 release again. Which I also have, but the display is broken, and only good for claimshell.

In regular use: Studio M1 Max (64GB), Base M? Air (It's a 2 or 3, I forget), 2011 MBA. and a work issued MBP M2 (16 GB). I went with the non-touch yellow. Mostly because I wanted a yellow computer. Also though, I spend a lot of time overseas and want a personal laptop that lives there. Schlepping a work and personal laptop half way around the world has gotten old.

If it works out, and I have no reason to think it won't, I'll replace the 2011 MBA with one. That machine runs QLab (audio) and EOS Nomad. I lend it out a lot and after 15 years it's getting a little long in the tooth. Someone's eventually going to shuffle it off the mortal coil. It might be a silly thing for a lot of folks but that audio out jack is clutch for QLab. Everyone everywhere (in the theater world) has a minijack input.

But also: I'm a (primarily) Erlang and Go programmer. Both languages compile just fine on the 8 GB MBA. I do that, run Emacs, a few PostgreSQL containers, and all the usual programs (Messages, Music, Safari, Slack, and so on). Even I'm not so stubborn to think this is an ideal setup (test suites are not -- ahem -- blazingly fast) and I'm sure I push the memory hard. That said, I get a stupid kick out of delivering mission critical software that's been written on cheap ass hardware. Doing all of the above on *yellow* even cheaper ass hardware is an itch I want to scratch. I know this is silly but I silently (usually) judge the gear whores who insist that anything less than top of the line is unusable trash meant only for web surfers and email readers. The machine isn't the "pro" part of the equation, the user is.

I know people have different actual needs am not suggesting high end computers aren't necessary for many applications. I have the Studio for a reason (multi-projector video compositing; machine learning; the hell of it) and write software that manages Power clusters that measure RAM in the TBs and storage in the PBs. What grips my wagger are the folks who insist, again and again, that all base model Apples are good for are casual use. I think people who might have been price locked out of an easy to use portable unix workstation will do fantastic things with the Neo.

16" M2 MacBook Pro that is always docked and connected to two external monitors. While I do undock and take it on the go sometimes, it's a hassle to do so and weighs a ton. Never thought I'd be able to justify having two laptops, but the Neo is affordable enough to not feel too guilty about it.

I ended up ordering a refurb Air 15" and spending more than I intended for these reasons.

-The Air refurbs are a great deal and already the Silver and Black 13" models are sold out. The Blue Neo 512 I wanted is $999 CDN, 13" Air M4 is only $40 more and 15" Air M4 is 1,269.

-The Neo Display is 219 PPI vs 224 PPI on the Air vs. 254 PPI on the Pro. This sends a worrying message about the Neo's display vs. the other MacBooks.

-RAM, Center stage, backlit keys.

Exciting times no matter which one you pick.
