I've been using the Magic Mouse since January and don't have any of the issues you mention that you or he had. I'm guessing he just doesn't use it normally and wasn't use it. There was definitely a small learning curve with it, but once learned, the thing is the best mouse I've ever used, and I wish I could have one at work because it's easier.

As for "flipping uncontrollably," I think we're looking at unfinished software here, combined, again, with a NERVOUS and NEW Magic Mouse user.

You have to be joking. The VP of Mac OSX is a 'new user' to the magic mouse? (The mouse that ships STANDARD with new macs?) It's like you think he was just surprised with the fact that he would have to demo with the mouse a day in advance or something.

Sure, let's just chalk it up to him being "nervous" :) Except the nerves didn't interfere with anything else about his presentation except the magic mouse and more specifically gesturing on the magic mouse.

I always amazes me that people are rarely willing to actually give things some time. If it doesn't do exactly what they expect right out of the box, "that's it, it's going back!" It can't be that it might just take some time to get used to. I realize Apple is known for "it just works" products but sometimes even "just works" takes a bit of time to get used to.

Hey, if you like fiddling with a $70 mouse and hope to build 'muscle memory' over months of training, more power to you. I actually do expect a mouse to work like I expect right out of the box. What a concept!

And you're convinced that the mouse is a natural extension of the human body, and never took any muscle memory training to use? Hell, every time I buy a new mouse, it feels different. Every trackpad, mouse, controller, and device I use has different muscle memory associated with it. Two finger scrolling, 3 finger dragging, the momentum scroll and forward and back buttons on my Logitech all took a bit of learning, and I still never hit the bottom thumb button or zoom button naturally.

So sorry you might have to 'learn' how to use something different, in exchange for more functionality

And if you look closer at the video, yes, he his fingers were shaking (too much coffee? nerves?) and one of his 3 fingers was too far off of the mouse's surface. Doesn't look like a very big difference that you would need to train your brain.

Sorry, it's just a really silly thing to complain about...

I actually thought it was worse than the mighty mouse, if you can believe it.

And that's a big statement considering I went through 2 mightys (of course the scroll ball died on both). I actually would have been content with the mighty had its one fatal flaw (the ball) didn't exist.

Not only is the magic mouse flatter, it's also heavier. Just uncomfortable as all hell. It looks gorgeous, but I wanted something that just works (;):apple:)

The whole thing with the gestures is really going to come to light as Lion gets all gesture-happy. Notice that it looks like he's three-finger swiping for 'mission control'-- and I don't think it worked as it should any of the times he did.

Two finger swipes were somewhat ok, but glitchy. Three finger gestures, forget it. I gave up. (what benefit is there to swiping when I can just push a button on my Logitech anyway?)

yeah...the ergonomics suck, but i love not having the track ball to deal with. i do miss the side buttons, but that is no big deal. i will agree if you want a comfortable mouse this is not the one to get. but no issues for me as of yet.

Fail. My Logitech has much more functionality, and didn't require any intensive 'training' to use, and it was also cheaper.
