Whatever you think of AVP and AR in general… you have to admit the engineering and technology is pretty amazing.

To think that 30 or so years ago that Apple would be making devices like this and iphone, ipad and more is astounding.

Indeed fine engineering, however it is a VR headset, not an AR one, no matter what Apple what wants us to believe.

HoloLens is/was an AR headset as an example.

"Apple Stores have a machine to determine approximate prescription glasses strength when you come in for a demo. For users with eye conditions (like strabismus) that might interfere with eye tracking, the Vision Pro offers alternative interaction controls in the accessibility features. However, we have heard that lenses are not available for people who have astigmatism, which is 40% of the population. If you know anything more about that, leave it in the comments. "

Huh?

What a mess. It reminds me at the change of a Harddrive in a IBook. To see, what you can see anyway it needs a hollow foil, cam and display?. This is terrible Ingeneering. whata ****. Who invented this Sh*t? My God, how can you put such a mess together? Nowadays it is so easy to project something on glass via laser. Even at this size... I'm really shocked at how you can design and assemble such garbage.

Some of the snarky comments from this person and these companies is annoying. They don’t create anything they just break other peoples hard work. This is a first gen device. And clearly a lot of engineering went into it. Also you can use third party battery packs with this device.

Don’t understand the need for all the sarcasm in the video. Is it really necessary to express frustration at the number of screws? There’s like 30 individual components crammed into this thing.

Eventually modules will be combined, but that will result in the ifixit’s comments on how you have to replace the entire X simply to repair Y.

This is a staggering amount of tech crammed into a curved space. It’s honestly remarkable how much is going on in terms of getting all of this working together in one cohesive unit. I think competitors are going to find the R1 is a staggering obstacle to overcome in terms of performance in sensor fusion….

Man, the internals of this baby are intense! I can see why it was challenging to assemble. Truly mind blowing internal design. I can only imagine how many iterations it took to get to this point, and how much more it would need to simplify and bring cost down.

iFixit previous Apple products tear-downs:
"Ohh, so much glue"
"Ohh, the ports are soldered to the logic board"
"Ohh, the screws are not Phillips"
"Ohh, the battery is not easily replaceable"

iFixit on the VP:
"Ohh, so many screws, why so many screws"
"Ohh, so many connectors, why so many connectors"
...

Should be renamed as iHateIt

My god that is one involved piece of tech.. but from a cringeworthy perspective this tear down might as well be dissecting a baby.

I thought they were dead in 96/97. The turnaround was remarkable and they continue to do remarkable things.
