There are no excuses for Apple to put such ridiculous amounts of RAM and SSD space in “Pro” computers. Nobody should buy the 8GB model and they know it. It’s a Mercedes SUV with 12 inch wheels.
Yes, they have fast RAM and SSDs that are used in a clever way but RAM should be adequate to the CPU and never a bottleneck to upsell bigger amounts, especially when it’s not replaceable, especially when replaceable ones for a PC cost 80% less.
The people who don’t think about RAM and buy the entry level (or base) configuration probably don’t need it. The rest can pony up $200 more for 16GB. It’s not the end of the world.

One thing I am curious about is how this new finish holds up over time.

The midnight finish on the Airs scratches around the ports over time exposing the underlying aluminium. I hope this is a tougher.

I think a 512GB SSD is enough for the base M3 MBP.

Anodizing is anodizing.
While you are correct that verb is verb, there are at least two types of hard anodizing, with variations in the coatings quality and thickness. Anyone who has bought anodized motorcycle parts knows that cheap anodizing wears/fades quicker than high-quality anodizing. Then you can have additional wear-resistant treatments/coatings on top of anodizing.

Offtopic, but can someone explain why does Apple call it a 120Hz screen if refresh times are so slow? In practice I don't think it refreshes 120 times per second?

Except not in this case if you read the article and linked blog.
Except it’s just Apple trying to reinvent a wheel that has worked fine for decades, only to get the same result while making it more expensive than simply using an existing anodizing solution.

It's a promotion display, it goes up to 120 but only if it needs to be 120. It isn't 120 all the time, just is capable of it.
That's not what I meant. Response times of this screen are very slow, so even if this screen "tries" to refresh 120 times, you won't see it, because transitions from one color to another are too slow.

An impressive process in the making of Space Black. I was at the Apple Store the other day and was comparing the look of the new Space Black MBPs with the Midnight of the Air, I think I'd prefer SB over Midnight because I'm not a fan of the blue tint that Midnight gives off. But examining Space Black, I wouldn't say it looks all that Black, it's more of a Dark Gray. Thinking about it I'd say the shade is what Space Gray should have been all along.

It's not a blue tint, but a blue color.

I wonder if Apple ever produces a movie for Apple TV based in space, that space will actually be black of just dark grey as that is apparently what Apple feel "Space Black" is.
Space, the absence of all light. "The blackness of space" as is always said.

For All Mankind (link) -- granted it's a series (not a movie) that just entered its 4th season.
I'd say space is depicted in a much darker fashion than this Space Black MacBook Pro.

That's what black is, reflecting less light back at you!
by way of absorption of visible wavelengths of light (photons).
Colors seen correspond to wavelengths that were reflected, scattered -- anything but absorbed.
Black things tend to be warmer than brighter-colored things because of that absorption. Don't use the Space Black MBP in the sun! lol

I but the bullet and upgraded from an Early 2020 MacBook Air that I purposely bought when the transition to Apple Silicon was announced so I could either use Bootcamp or Parallels to run Windows 10 as there were some Windows only based apps I needed to be able to run for work and didn’t know how that would all shake out to a new 14” M3 MacBook Pro with an M3 processor (and 16 GB of RAM to actually make it a Pro machine).

I was seriously looking at the 15” M2 MacBook Air with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD but thought it better to invest in a laptop with the latest processor even if it meant paying a few hundred more and getting a screen that’s an inch smaller. I got $400 for the Intel MacBook Air which helped offset the cost of the addition RAM and space on the SSD drive.

I would’ve loved the midnight black model but wasn’t about to spend hundreds more to get a model you could buy that color in. Space Grey is fine with me if not quite as good looking. I’m pumped to finally make the jump to Apple Silicon knowing I can still use Parallels with the ARM version of Windows 11 to run the apps I need.

Now what to do with the 2017 27” 5K iMac that still has an Intel processor? it feels underwhelming to go from that to a new 24” iMac 4.5K iMac. I’m thinking I’ll wait until next year and grab a Mac Mini with an M3 Pro chip and a 27” monitor. The Mac Studio feels like overkill for my needs.

A very expensive luxury item for professionals with components willingly crippled to make more money is still an insult to me. I accept how some of these things are specifically meant to be bought by companies so I say nobody should ever buy one of these machines with their own money. Let your company buy one and buy the replacement if they will but if you even remotely care about the money involved, look for any alternative.

He says he filled up the RAM usage in 15 minutes. This guy talks like he doesn't have a real clue how MacOS uses RAM. Yes, SSD swap is a real thing but, the SSD would still last longer than most people ever dream of. This iFixit guy doesn't sound objective to me in his presentation.
Well it IS iFixit. They’re a business to make money just like everyone else and if a company doesn’t “partner” with them, well, this is the result.

iFixit is the last place I would look for objective information regarding Apple.

They have a fevered hatred for Apple. The despise the fact Apple doesn't make a product that caters towards iFixit's business model of providing inferior parts for all things Apple.
And, unlike some other companies, they have resisted the urge to “partner” with them for more favorable reviews.

You seem to be saying every reviewer is not objective or is a clickbait artist when you don't like the results. Is that objective of you, though?
I haven't said this review was clickbait. I also haven't said every reviewer is clickbait or bad. Projecting into my posts things I haven't said or inferred is not very objective of you. Best make sure your own posts are clean before trying to retort with this post to me.

I gotta say I still like iFixit but they do seem to be going a bit overboard editorializing sometimes. I liked it better when they were more just a pure source of technical knowledge for others to speculate upon.

And slightly off-topic, they seem to be succumbing to the YouTube trend of having a thumbnail that looks like they just smelled a fart.

Why does the thumbnail video guy look like he's just smelled his finger after shoving it up where the sun don't shine?
That’s the “you’re not a partner” thumbnail. :) Apple has to pay for the just plain “unabashedly astonished” thumbnail LOL
