It gets you through an entire day of use. What more do you want from any electronic device? 1 full day isn't good enough?

entire day - if it was a "full day" it would be lovely.

The ipad mini 2 battery life measures are longer than this ipad air 2.

I have to charge every day, often a second top up in the middle of the day.

Remember, your usage patterns do not reflect others. Your idea of 'full day' is not the same as others.

The battery on the iPad Air 2 is a fail in my opinion, how about making it thinner and also 1 hour more battery. To say it's thinner and also retains the same battery is not spectacular. If they made it thinner and also increased battery by 1 hr now that would be "wow"

With every new iPad, they should be bragging that it last's longer than the previous iPad not that it stays the same. It's so odd that they keep making the battery smaller, the device thinner and battery still sucks. I don't get it.

I'm waiting for the time when the keynote says: "The #1 item our customer's are asking for is longer battery"
Apple doesn't need to "wow" you since your assessment on failure/success of battery life is garbage. iPad Air battery life is more than enough for any use and Air 2 maintains the same battery life is a big + with super thin chassis, much better CPU, GPU, RAM and camera. Unless, one's so dumb not to see, with $100 difference, these are bargain with this upgrade.

Smaller battery and 2 GB of RAM uses more battery than 1. I wish it still came with 1 GB. Apple should've optimized it more like they did with the iPhone 6.

All for thinness that matters little. Bet many would've gladly take the previous gen's depth + the bigger battery.

Look across much of the Apple product line. Freak show Jony has some kind of mental illness problem with thinness. The iPhone doesn't have FM due (reportedly) to thinness, minis don't cool properly due to thinness, laptops have lost Ethernet ports due to thinness.

I could give a rat's behind that my iPhone 6 is thinner than my 5c was. I just don't care. To take a few mm off a device and lose function is not only irresponsible, it's moronic and just plane stupid. Such is the way of Apple these days.

Complete opposite for me, credit card thin please!!!

isn't there a device you can connect to the ipad to give it extra battery life? aren't their cases with supplemental batteries in them? i personally would rather have a device as thin and light as possible. i notice that every second as i use the device while the battery life i usually never notice because it gets plugged in every night anyway with still a half battery life remaining.

[ The 8-megapixel camera is similar to the camera in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus as well,

although this device got released in 2014.. looking at the camera's hardware specs.. I believe its back camera hardware is on par with the 4S's and the 5/5C's version rather than 5S/6/6+'s one.

even i think the 4S's camera may have a slight advantage because it also has 1.4 micro pixels compared to the Air 2 at 1.12 Micro pixels.

If Apple's priorities weren't clear before, this spells it right out. They have no problem sacrificing battery life if it means they can make a thinner device.

I'd have no problem with an even thinner battery if Apple would only make it easy to replace. The effort and risk involved in swapping in a new battery is absurd.

Agreed. But the measurement is "micron", not "micro".

:)

if it is the same camera... wow. I am very impressed with the camera in my 6. I use it to copy sheet music to use while preforming and I must say it does a bank up job. I get razor sharp copies, hand held in low light. My 5 did not make copies this sharp with a copy stand, 2 lights at 45 degrees and using a timer to minimize shake.
My 6 has one great camera for my uses.

It's not the same camera, not by a long shot. The iPad air 2 camera is worse than iPhone 5s camera. It's closer to iPhone 5, maybe even slightly worse.

We can also go by the fact that Apple has used single 1 GB chips in the past, including in the iPhone 6, and there doesn't seem to be any reason for them to suddenly switch to two 512 GB chips :D
Also it would be strange for the benchmarks to get it wrong when they're obviously reading system values (as opposed to software that sometimes comes out after a device is released that just looks up the device type and makes a hard coded assumption based on that).

Oh I wish they would switch to two 512 GB chips… I wish.

iPad Air battery life is more than enough for any use and Air 2 maintains the same battery life

Whilst I think the Air 2 is great and I may well be buying one, that statement is amazingly incorrect.

You view ANY USE as any use when you are no longer than say 11 hours away from a power socket.
That's a million miles away from ANY USE.

If it lasted say at the very least a week or a month, then you could almost make that type of statement, but not 11 hours.

Again, I've nothing against the product, but let's be sensible and honest here, it's not going to be much use when you go off camping on your bicycle for the week.

All for thinness that matters little. Bet many would've gladly take the previous gen's depth + the bigger battery.

That said technology is ever changing and improving thus don't you think there will be a battery in the near future that will be thinner but offers more power than current bigger models? As someone else noted, the battery may be smaller but Apple IS going into the right direction by adjusting/improving their OS to ensure energy efficiency.

Not when my iPad 2 can last easily for a week of constant use, if not more, on one charge. One full day isn't good enough. It's a step backwards, not forwards.

And this will do the same. It depends on how you use it. If you really want to test your iPad 2 run an HD video continually from a full charge and record how long it takes to run it down. The iPad Air can run for week of light use like all other iPads. It received a bit smaller battery and a bet efficient CPU and these 2 changes should level out to the same performance as before.

Watching 3 feature movies would do damage on the battery, is that how much you're using the iPad per day?

Native movies are not too bad, as most of the testing is done that way. Once you start getting GPU activity, gaming, any of hte apps that use that more - it kicks it butt. Minecraft seems to eat it quite nicely as well. Youtube, vimeo and other web video apps.

It's called innovation and who listens to FM?

Oh man. Help me jesus.

The iPad has no NFC dude. It is just sharing parts with the iPhone. That chip does nothing.

That chip probably costs 0.50¢

I know this NFC thing is new for you iPhone guys, but on android phones we have had it forever, and I never use it.

NFC is an ANTENNA, like Bluetooth or WiFi. That's how it connects.

Apple wouldn't put a chip in for no reason. My guess is that they're using it for the secure element since that is still needed to hold the credit card info

NFC is not an antenna. It is simply a means of transmitting data over a short distance

Are you guys really hurting for battery life on your iPad? I literally charge mine once per week, sometimes even every other week. Unless you're watching non-stop video for 10-hours, you'll almost certainly get a full day of charge of out this thing.

I like having a thinner and lighter tablet. On a device that is somewhat bulky for holding with one hand, it's nice. I bet females especially will appreciate it. I don't think most people are as obsessed with battery life as you all are.

Or the nfc is just part of one of the chips and it would cost more to remove it rather than keep it.

My point still stands that it takes massive use to kill the battery in one day

Once a week? do you even use the thing?

I have three ipads in my house. Two are charged nightly- one of which is oten charged during the day as well. Third is charged every other day.

My iphone is charged twice a day. My macbook is charged once/twice a day. my boys iphone4 - no sim - is charged two to three times a day. I should soure a battery for htat one seeing as I can actually swap it out resonably easily.

So using the ipad is massive use? Does hte normal person purchase a device to not use?
