Just wow, one of the best design external and even more beautiful inside electronic components.

All of this talk about satellite communications in an emergency.

Where is the talk about lack of VoNR even though the modem supports it? VoNR is a big deal going forward and something I wish to see in my 13 Pro. It would be like buying an LTE phone without VoLTE.

yes! You took the words out of my mouth!

I think iFixit has it wrong about a fused dot projector and flood illuminator. There are clearly 4 windows in the notch, and there's some component with cables running into it screwed into the display that it looks like they're ignoring. I don't have an explanation for the video they posted, but if the 4th window in the notch (2nd from left) actually is vestigial, that's very un-Apple like.

EDIT: maybe it's the proximity sensor? I don't see a window for that otherwise.

Louder for the people in the back.

I've stopped buying new iPhones - I pick them up cheap and used on eBay. Apple doesn't do anywhere near enough to justify the price on their new phones (and if they did, the price wouldn't fall so much on the used market.)

I've considered not buying iPhones at all... but I guess from Apple's perspective, it's the same either way - they're not getting my money.
They’re not getting your money??? Laughs in 2.4 TRILLION dollar market cap 🤣

That’s a software implementation that Apple could do in a later iOS update. It’s not like any significant wireless carriers are using it outside of their R&D labs right now.

I just looked and in the last 24 hours, 16 minutes of Sarai use cost me 11% of my battery usage. (I searched and browsed some clerk of court records.) By comparison, 3 Hours and 21 minutes of WhatsApp (on a video call) cost me only 5%. - the network stack and a/v codecs are just so dang efficient these days.
Something is off with your device, have you tried a reboot of your device. I have noticed that with iOS 15 and the last few iOS 14 updates my iPhone 12 Pro has been running hot from time-to-time with Safari use, it was not an issue previously.

I hate these teardowns and stress tests other sites do. Damaging a perfectly good piece of hardware makes me sad.

The inability to replace the display by a third party is ridiculous. You can’t even salvage an OEM display from another iPhone. That’s environmentally friendly.

I guess the existing warning message wasn’t enough to raise AppleCare+ sales numbers.
Been like this for all of the iPhones since TouchID. Neither unlock mechanism worked until the authentic display was calibrated with Apple’s software. Otherwise TouchID or FaceID won’t function.
It sucks, I agree, but this isn’t news.

That is what I’m hoping, other phone manufacturers include it so Apple should do. It’s a pretty critical piece of cellular technology going forward even if it’s not available today it’s coming likely in the next year.

Atleast ifixit does it so we can better repair our phones going forward. Most YouTubers do it for viewers.

Why? Are you in need of 8GB of ram? Are you experiencing issues with 6? Would you even care if you didn't know how much it had?
The RAM bump is actually one of the primary reasons I decided to spring for the Pro. I really did have a lot of issues with the 4GB phones reloading when switching apps. 6GB seems OK for now, but I’d guess in a couple more years, it won’t be. So, I think it’s a fair complaint… especially when compared to how much headroom we have with the processors every year.

If I get this correct, smaller notch = better for some, but harder to repair?

Too complicated to fix the Face ID unless
It’s by Apple.

honestly this is some pretty smart engineering by Apple here.

think of FaceID and what it reads and encompasses here as you would with the Secure Enclave within SoC. From a security perspective I want NO bad “actors having a full 3D model of my face.

I’ve read, but still searching Bloomberg’s archives of an article they published where anyone that’s visited there has had their face already scanned and logged uniquely in a DB.

sure it can protect a city or a nation against known terrorists or their associates but also 😠😞. Beyond that potential FUD most of our personal data is already mined, I don’t want some next level mask impersonating anyone going into your bank along with mined personal dat and your finances and livelihood wiped out a la that movie with Swarzennegger “Two Weeks” ;)

I thought the same exact thing as you and then I realized it’s most likely the proximity sensor. There’s nowhere else to put it

This year's iPhone 13 Pro has an upper sensor cable near the top that's easy to rip during repairs, with iFixit calling it "scary thin." Visually, the Taptic Engine inside the device that controls Haptic Touch appears to be smaller, but it's actually bulkier than the similar component in the iPhone 13 Pro, weighing in at 6.3 grams, up from 4.8.
You mean, "bulkier than the similar component in the iPhone 12 Pro," right?

Then 8gb won’t solve ur problem. They have to draw the line somewhere. If they have 8gb u would ask for 16. Just pretend they only have 4gb but lucky you got a 6gb phone. Congrats.
That sounds like norrmalmstorgssyndromet.

They are. People who sell their iPhone usually do it to get a newer one. If there was nobody to sell their old phone to, they wouldn't probably get the new one. At least not so often. I know quite a few people who sell their iPhone every year just to get the new one. I did it myself last year.

I can’t believe they aren’t using LPDDR5 memory yet.
The user experience is so much different... I have owned the iphone 3GS, 5S, 6S, X, 11 and 12 and none of them have ever had any problem despite people complaining about the RAM memory every single generation. The phone works perfectly fine, why do you need LPDDR5 memory?

Just stop buying dang iPhones then. Speak with your wallet, If something is inexcusable stop using the dang product.
Generally I agree. But I decided to "speak with my wallet" by not supporting Amazon and haven't bought anything through them for a decade - and yet Bezos became no.1 rich guy :)

In the support of iPhones, I have to say after using them for almost a decade now, only rarely encountered very minor issues and have a trackrecord of 0 service visits. They run just great year after year.

Better repairability of devices should maybe be mandated by regulators - especially I see the issue with soldered ram & SSDs on newer Macs...
