I would also love to be able to delete any app on the phone. I think the only problem with this is when someone deletes the weather app and then later on, they want it back on their phone. There would have to be a way in iTunes to put the app back on.

I think this could easily done with a "Restore Default Applications" button that would reinstall any of the basic apps that you get when the phone ships.

I want to be able to reply to texts right in the popup without exiting the app im using at that moment.
I cannot believe that this is not possible yet.

Oooh, excellent choice. This would be quite helpful. While you wouldn't have the "conversation view", it'd be better than nothing.

I think it would be fantastic to have the ability to charge the iphone 'over the air' with a wifi connection. :)

I mean seriously...to never have to carry a charge cord would be priceless.

Charge? Or do you mean sync? Because as cool as wirelessly charging would be, it's not possible over wi-fi... or in general. But syncing over wi-fi would definitely be great.

I agree. This should definitely be added. Hopefully in the next major release.

If that was possible, I wonder what that would do to our brains.

That would be awesome....I don't think it's technically possible yet, or would really be over "wifi"...but awesome.

Let's not forget that there WILL be new features announced for 3.0 that were not previously announced. Things that us Apple followers don't think to be "new" because we know about them already through leaks.

For example, something Apple will announce at WWDC that was not previously announced is video recording and editing. This would fall under the category of new features, we just tend to not think of it like that because we follow this site and therefore keep up to date on all the leaks. We know it will have video recording, yet Apple hasn't yet said it would.

Anything that we know about the iPhone software-wise that was not previously publicly acknowledged by Apple, but that we know because of leaks and betas, would fall under the category of "Apple announcing more new features for 3.0" for the average person. So for this reason, I don't think there will be many surprises for us. Although the people who don't follow this stuff closely will get some nice surprises.

I hope we see some more features for 3.0, but I don't see Apple announcing anything new. But then again I hope I'm wrong.

At a friends call center he/she told me that there are "100 new features" and that "most" will be available on 3g and very few will be available on the first version.

He/She also mentioned that He/She was told that they can have as much overtime as they want past June 13. The person I'm reffering to is trained on iPhones.

I think 3.0 is a step in the right direction.

However, for 4.0 I think the Springboard needs an overhaul.

Agreed. There are quite a few possibilities for a new UI in general, although in the very least we need some type of folder structure.

You’re in the middle of a game of Flight Control when the phone rings -- everything gets pushed out of the way and you must decide to "Accept", "Decline", or wait 20 seconds until its done ringing. Rarely, if ever do I actually "decline" a call -- most of the time I simply let it ring. Why? Because the caller knows that it should ring more than five seconds! They know that you declined their call!

I'd like to see an option to change "denying" a phone call to "ignoring" a phone call. Meaning that, should it be ignored, the phone will continue ringing silently in the background until it is sent to voicemail. This enables you to get back to your work and not have to waste the 20 seconds that go by. That also allows time for you to change your mind, should you decide to go back and take the call.

Other than that, multiple notifications on the lock screen that I can click on and go to the respective application: "1 new email from..." to Mail app. "1 new message from..." to SMS app. Etc, etc.

You can do this by hitting a volume key. It's saved my butt in class multiple times.

Actually, this isn't the same thing. While this will silent the ring, it doesn't let you continue to use the phone's other apps in the process. What'd I'd like to see is some sort of notification that would allow you to decide whether or not you want to ignore the phone, and have it continue ringing in the background.

EDIT: My 1,000th post! :)

I fear 4.0 won't be supported on iPhone 1, and it will have serious limits on iPhone 2.

Well if it's anything like how Apple has handles the iPod line, if 4.0 is a huge change, I wouldn't be surprised if none of the previous phones (1st - 3rd gen) supported it.

It's not like the old 5th gen. iPod games are still being supported... at least not in earnest.

I would like to be able to install apps I make myself, apps that won't get approved in the app store, and apps made by people who just don't want to go through the app store. It's not that I don't like the app store, it's that I don't like being restricted.

:

if you were a developer (which you would have to be in order to get the iphone SDK...then you are already able to try out apps that you make on your own iphone...im not sure what you are asking for that doesnt already exist...unless you are trying to pirate software that is already on the appstore..

the other option if you want to be able to sideload apps...is using a jailbroken iphone..only way.

and then you can go to cydia store to use all teh apps that arent in teh appstore

Here's my list:
The ability to run more than one app at once. Similar to the way the Pre does it, but I bet Apple could come up with something a little sexier. Maybe something like the OS X dock. You'd be able to see your running processes by going to the homescreen and seeing what's in the dock with a blue light.

This is my #1. I might just get the Pre if Apple doesn't match or beat the Pre's multi-tasking.

well that's wrong. Anyone can download the sdk, however, unless you pay the $99 then you can't install your own apps on the phone. Also, the apps can only be run while tethered to your computer.

dude, where do you get off accusing me of piracy? There are a million legitimate reasons to not want to use the app store. For one there are tons of apps that wouldn't be allowed in the app store, they modify the OS, they use too much bandwidth, et cetera.

the other option if you want to be able to sideload apps...is using a jailbroken iphone..only way.
Don't patronize me. I've been jailbreaking since OS 1.1

and then you can go to cydia store to use all teh apps that arent in teh appstore
Sigh....
