I know I'm being a whiner and an attention whore, but I'm kinda fed up with this.

I wouldn't classify this as being an attention whore (well, maybe on the forum, but not in real life) since you're not going to get any results by keeping quiet. Here's hoping that everything works out for you at the Apple Store! I'm sure you'll keep us posted.

I think there was an error in the forum system. I can't see the white text in this post. ;) :D

hahahahahaah :D :D Hilarious, made my day!

Hey, get an app titled Rember. Its saved my but a few times for memory things. Put it on the desktop and eject the disk image to make sure its there.

Make it close finder and everything, and make it log verbose, and repeat forever.

Then just leave it for a few hours, testing away. If the computer dies, then you know you have a problem. Seems to go a lot faster if you remove all but a single pair (for the G5 its pair, foreveryone else its a single stick).

You think we're too hard on him...? He stole the name of one of the most profiled and talked about posters here at MR and are currently in full spambot mode, making only partly funny comments to every thread available (at least Lacero had a good grasp of sarcasm, although harsh at times). That should qualify him for some bashing, or what...?

Maybe its the reincarnation of Lacero - I remember Lacero got banned for a week (along with ~Shard~)... came back a new man/woman/MR Poster

ATI replaced my X800 XT with a brand new one, which worked straight away without even having to flash the ROM with the fan firmware.

One problem down, two to go. :D

I think it just needs a hug from iGary..

So did you already take it to the Apple Store prior to your trip or is it headed there now? From watching the videos about the airline fiasco, you have a knack for getting your way, eventually. You should capitalize on this as well. Within reason. And my reason calls for new hardware. And that spa kickback you mentioned :)

Update:

Took it into the Apple Store and it would not reproduce what it was doing, so I talked them into keeping it, and five minutes after I left it did it for them.

As an FYI, the "half start up chime" is called a "half-post." Evidently, the tech geekx call the chime a post.

The ordered a new logic board and two new processors. Hopefully it will be done by the end of the week. *fingers crossed*

This seems to be the way of most tech problems. As soon as you call someone over to help solve your problem, the problem ceases to exist. Sometimes it goes away permanently, and other times it just waits for them to leave before it comes back. In this case, your computer was pulling the old "I will only misbehave in front of one person at a time" routine.

Yeah, the guy remembered last time I bought it in, and i was just really nice with him and explained that I have this one-week window to get this fixed, and perhaps he should keep it for the day, as it may only do this when the board or procs get warmed up.

It worked. :D

Now I pray to God that they don't botch the repair. i had no idea they did in-store repairs of this nature.

That sucks man...I feel for you. Takes me back to when I bought my Gen. A AlBook, and what I had to go through in order to finally get a good one (three trips to the repair facility later). Hope everything works out...

POST is Power On Self Test.

;)

Good Lord- that all sounds terrible. iGary, they better fix the damn thing, otherwise make them replace it.

I just got a dual core G5 2.0 myself and if it acted like that, I think I'd be more than angry. ;)

Well, it's ****ed up again.

The new logic board sounds like a bunch of crickets, it locks up and the fans ramp up to full speed, it won't sleep (locks up and fans run full blast), I have kernel panics...

I'm going to lay down the law this morning, I think. This is the last chance they get, then we talk replacement. They told me they ran a whole host of heavy duty diagnostics on it before they gave it back to me, so if those can't find the problem...then what's saying this thing will ever be right?

One more chance.

Oh dear! That's not good news. :(

I would be very very very  if I were you. Don't even give them another chance, just demand a replacement.

I'd take a refurbed dual 2.7 at this point - they don't have new 2.7's. Worst-case scenario I have to hock all my RAM and my video card on E-Bay and get a Quad.

I'm giving them one more chance, but I will tell them that this is the last time I am bringing it in. If it isn't completely flawless when I pick it up, I'm bringing it back for something new. I'm losing a ton of money every time I bring this thing in.

Sorry for the rant, this is just getting old.

That's more than fair. iGary, I hate hearing his kind of stuff man- it's a bummer. Good luck to you.
