This still won't deter those from saying it's in first person and you shoot, therefore, first person shooter. I don't get how the Prime series, which are very unique from other first person titles, can be labeled so easily to some. To me, FPS is a label specifically given to games with a shooter focus.

I agree. It's why Oblivion isn't labeled an FPS despite the ability to go into the first person and engage in combat with short and long range weapons.
MGS: Twin Snakes had an FPS mode, guess what, they don't call that an FPS. And shooting is a focus on that game!

Yeah, forgot about Twin Snakes. I'd say sneaking around was more of a focus than shooting in that still. But yeah, Oblivion I guess should be considered a FPS if Metroid Prime is.

I'd say at least try it before you knock it. I hear many people who didn't like the first two Prime's dismissing this one already, having not played it.

Tomorrow I'm going out, to buy Prime 3. I've been counting down the days until its released. I hated Prime 1, never played Prime 2, Hunter was fun(although I never beat it, online was fun)

I played Prime 1 years ago, and my least favorite part about it was the control set up. Now its loooks great.

Well we'll see what I think about it in 24 hrs

If you hated prime 1 then you might not like this...this game is exactly like prime 1 except the controls...which should be a plus for you though.

I'm glad they finally put voice acting into the game but the voice acting are not all that good. I really want to like the pulling lever stuff but its getting annoying already.

So far so good.....

Bless

Metroid Prime is definitely different. It's Nintendo's top FPS game, but it's not as senseless as many FPS games. The game focuses on, which many people have discussed, exploration, this definitely separates it from the competition in my mind.

Halo, while it is different, is nothing new. I never believed Halo was up there with Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem or Half-Life, there was nothing different or compelling. Since Bungie is ripping off their old classic, Marathon, but with a huge difference. Better environments, deep multiplayer and a cinematic type storyline. Standard weapons pickup like in any FPS. One of my gripes, the Flood was f'n annoying!

Metroid, is two beasts. A third person juggernaut of an exploration game, which is aggravating to play, but still fun. Metroid Prime, takes that same method, throws it into a first person perspective; like Oblivion, and creates beautiful environments. Very few weapons to choose from, but many upgrades. The morph ball is a blast!

Those of us play Halo, but others play real shooters; like Quake, Doom or Half-Life; real hardcore, SiN. For the other others, we play Metroid.

Does Bioshock have multiplayer or online, btw?

Much to the disappointment of people like me and zero2dash, bioshock has no multiplayer :(

But bioshock seems to be somewhat focused on exploration and puzzles in addition to FPS elements. Would anyone be so bold as to compare MP:C to bioshock? :D
If so, then i'll have to buy it

Well for starters, if you're not playing Bioshock with a mouse, then MP:C has vastly better controls. :p

I've played the other 2 Shocks and the first Prime all of the way through. These games are only similar in the respect they're presented in the first person. You'll just need to play the game to appreciate it.

What I'm definitely going to compare is Bioshock to System Shock and if it's more like SS2, I'll be griping more than usual.

For those curious about the controls.

Can't wait to try it.

You can change controls, right? When more people around these parts get the game, I want to start a "what control scheme do you use" thread, since the controls are what make this game unique.

Let me know if the game has the v3 update on it.

Managed to trade my Wii with wii-key v.3 to an older machine with v.2.2 firmware because I could no longer use Freeloader to play my NTSC gamecube games.

My Metroid shipped, but now i'm worried if I put it in, it will auto update and leave me buggered for my gamecube games yet again.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. From the manual:

Edit: I wonder what will happen to those who don't or can't take their Wii online.

Picked it up yesterday, after one night of playing I have to say that its a thoroughly enjoyable game. I'm not a giant fan of hardcore FPS's like Halo or Quake - Metroid Prime is conveniently right in the middle between sci-fi adventure while being a major contender to FPS games.

Right off the bat, this is the first Metroid that has a real sense of story over the other Prime series before it. The graphics are really pushed to the limit for the Wii. While you want get the super duper HD quality you might see on an XBOX of PS3 you'll still get great visuals.

Oh, and the controls are great too. You can switch the fire button to the trigger if you really wanted to but I think A will prove to be more responsive. The 'achievements' are a nice bonus but to be honest I can't figure out what a friend voucher is good for. I sent one to a friend who is playing MPC and they didn't know what to do with it either. Anyone have any info on these things? And the message is quite vague as well "Use friend vouchers which can turn into friend credits" huh?

Overall so far I give a 4.5 out of 5.

Hm, that's what I thought.

Am I the only one who has been told by a bunch of different retailers that the street date for this is tomorrow? I was able to get it at Best Buy, but Target and one other local shop said they couldn't sell until tomorrow.

Nintendo Power states that MP:C never dips below 60 FPS. That too me says the game is hardly pushing the Wii to its limits. But if I see graphic tearing, then I'll know they've exceeded the GPUs limits, but not the CPUs. Super Duper HD, for a PS360. *cough* :)

I'll have my copy this week. The game store I used to live by didn't even call me to let me know it was in. If I didn't have $15 credit in their system, I wouldn't bother heading back down there, since I've moved 25 miles from that area.

That just depends on when a retailer get's their shipment in from their warehouse. Smaller retailers may get direct shipments, larger one's get a bulk shipment to the warehouse and then distribute them to individual stores from there...

Or, it terms of already having the games and not sellign them, they may be holding them for a sale. If their circular says "available Wednesday," they hold the game until them. Each retailer my do something like that for their own reasons...

I'm aware of all that, I just thought it was universally released today. I used to work electronics in Target, and know all about that street date jazz.

At Walmart, the woman at the electronics counter wouldn't even look for it in the computer. :|
Luckily, there is a Gamestop nextdoor, and I snagged it.

^ Thanks for backing me up zap2 unless that is some sarcasm i have failed to pick up on

I'll be honest, i have never played a metroid game in my life
But judging by screenshots, it appears that it is in the first person perspective, Samus has a gun, and you shoot monsters in the game, hence me calling it a "First Person Shooter"
If i am missing something blantantly obvious here, I am sorry

Metroid's not a first person shooter; it's an adventure game.

It's no more an FPS than Zelda is a swordfighter. Yes, that's how combat goes, but it's not what the game is about.

The concept of Metroid, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime 1 and Metroid Prime 2 was that you are dumped on a planet, alone without friends, and you start exploring. You find an item (say, letting you jump higher) that lets you reach more areas, where there you find an item that lets you go back and reach an area you couldn't reach before, and there you find something else that lets you reach something new, etc...

It's all about the exploration. Only two Metroid games have ever had multiplayer, and one of them sucked (Metroid Prime 2) and the other had a sucky single player mode (Metroid Prime Hunters) as a result.

However Hunters(and from the look of it Prime 3) controls are that of a FPS. Yes, there is more exploring then say Halo, but too me, its an FPS.

Hunters, however, was developed by a different studio and was criticized for being too much like an FPS (too linear) in the single player game. It didn't feel so much like Metroid as it did an FPS with puzzles.

The Prime games are all about the exploration, and the game engine is designed really for fighting gargantuan bosses that are puzzles unto themselves rather than free-for-all style battles. I'm not surprised multiplayer sucked on Echoes and that they removed it on Corruption.
