the games don't suck...

controlling anything that involves virtual buttons does.

I'm still waiting for apple to make a peripheral that can turn the idevices into real gaming platforms... rather than 5 min casual (which I also enjoy).

I would agree with this statement. I don't think iOS will ever compete with the hardcore gamer crowd without a physical controller. I am talking specifically about the GAMER crowd though, so no one flame me! iOS games are like the Wii. Good clean fun, in short bursts. I can't imagine myself playing an iOS game for 6+ hours in a day like Mass Effect or Uncharted...it's just awkward to and the controls just aren't that intuitive.

Try playing aralon. Much deeper game than what nintendo handhelds offerred so far.

I absolutely agree about the FPS game market...Also, loved Kirby's Epic Yarn. Awesome game! :D

Epic yarn and donkey kong country returns rock. Cant wait till they fix the Remote viewers on ipad so you can play the pd emulator versions remotely on the ipad somehow.

I'll check it out! Also, a big problem is finding good games on iOS. Although its been said many times, the App store is saturated with crap. I may find a gem in 1/10 purchases.

My main issue with mobile gaming though (including PSP and DS, i'm not a fan of either) is its just very hard for me to get immersed in them on a 9.7in or 3.5in screen for the iPhone. It's kinda like...going to the movies. Watching Avatar in theaters is not the same effect as watching Avatar on your iPad.

Aralon just got updated today with a paladin class and ipad specific controls so ypu hve to grab it.

Thats why i dont understand why ign and the media keeps buying into nintendos fear and their little comments toward apple. Would you rsther have huge extensive games like aralon on a much bigger screen with better resolution and on a tablet that offers so much more. Or buy into them and purchase a 3ds instead with n64 3d graphics and one analog?

Haha was checking it out now. I'll take your word for it and spend the 10 bucks =P. Maybe you'll prove me wrong on mobile gaming.

Yes, the iPad has a big advantage in the screen department. The big issue is still physical controls. Virtual gamepads may be the future, but almost all of us have grown up with buttons you can feel and press. So this makes playing fighting games like street fighter feel just plain weird. Who knows though, maybe the next generation growing up on ipod touches, iphones, ipads, etc will think touch controls are more comfortable then physical controllers.

Since i'm older though, I do prefer physical buttons. I'm biased :p.

One of the reasons why is parents, for the most part, are ignorant when it comes to gaming. A friend (adult) buys an ipad and its the greatest thing since slice bread (for them). The parent gets told free games/apps of cheap games.
So an ipad is purchased and the sale of a psp or dsx is lost.
I prefer to play real games on my 54 inch screen and but for angry birds or games with limited amount of required on screen controls the ipad is ok.
Movies still prefer the 54 inch, if I am out and about and grab lunch well the iphone is adequate for the short interlude of entertainment

One of the only 2d platformers and probably the greatest and highly reviewedon gaming sites for psp is ghosts and ghouls. We as ipad owners can have two of them and with the recentupdated visuals and controls, they play just as well with the fling.

OP, if you click the 'edit' button to the bottom right of any of your posts, you can add new information without double and triple posting. The thread reads much easier then, and you're much more likely to get a good discussion going.

More great news:
http://www.touchgen.net/gdc-bulkypix-has-tons-of-new-games

Were getting freaking cult classic gobliins 2. A game perfect for touch controls. Heck we alrrady got so many perfect games for the controls that amiga gamers should be familair with. Look up myst, riven, goobliins 1, Infinity blade, hunters, Settlers, Back to the future, etc. Look at all the puzzle games like trainyard or worldof goo or cover orange.

It pisses me off how i have so many examples i just dont have time to write all of them and you people continue dissing thes egreat devs and their efforts. Way better than overpriced corporations and their games like halo or call of duty.

And 3ds is good but only for one thing, mario. Mario is honestly the only game announced so fsr that excites me close to as bad as that whole list i just linked to for app store.

I literally cannot stand on screen joystick controls.

I bought NOVA 2 last week, played it for about 5 mins and not loaded it since.
The hopeless control system just ruins any enjoyment of the game for me totally.

I'm not not going to buy any game that uses this type of control method, I'll just stick to games more suited to a touch interface.

The moment Apple realise they need to bring out, say an official bluetooth games controller for some games the better.

My fear is Apple is, at time, stupidly stubborn, and would for some idiotic reason see a controller as an admission of failure. Which it isn't. It's an enhancement.
You cannot expect one control method to be ideal for every type of game. They need to understand it's a positive to offer such a item for those who want it, not a negative.

Would you really want to carry a bag everywhere with you and lug around usb controllers like people do for laptops? Is thst practical? Just get a pair of flings, nova will play just fine.

IGN is terrible, as a paying subscriber for 10+ years. I know. Forums used to be great, now a ghost town. There are many, many reasons for this.

So is this topic basically the OP bashing Nintendo and praising the iPad, even though the IGN article (surprisingly) didn't really bash the iPad and just gives advice on how to make good iPad games that are suited for the device?

Besides, that article was pretty much a recap of a GDC panel and doesn't really contain much opinion from the author of the news story.

And you instantly say the 3DS launch titles (which from a gamer's standpoint, is admittedly weak) are bad without (probably) having played any of them. No one's saying the iPad is a bad device for games, but the games should be well-developed to take advantage of the iPad's touchscreen.

Why are you bashing certain games so much? What's wrong with Street Fighter? There is a wide, diverse range of titles for everyone on the DS, PSP, and iOS. And simply because you don't like a genre does not mean it's inferior or bad in any way. As long as a game is fun, why does it matter so much for you?

As long as iOS developers are making games for you, who cares?

I shouldn't need any other peripherals to play a game on a mobile device. The game should be very well playable without it. Unfortunately, I personally just find FPSs to be cumbersome to play on the iPad and the device itself difficult to hold for long periods of time.

In regards to the article...

I like how he demands 60fps for all iPad games and yet we live in a generation where the home consoles with vastly more power than the iPad are often running sub-hd 1024x640 (call of duty etc..) and the FPS is generally between 20-30 in most games on average.

Article read a bit silly to me.

Yeah iPad games suck. I bought about 20 of them ranging in price from 99c to $15 and they are all junk besides maybe 1 or 2. I would have been more than happy to buy one for $50 if it meant quality over quantity.

Touch controls only work for select genres of games. I love adventure games and touch controls worked great on those.

The article may not bash it but their ign wireless image of the article has a ign fail sign. They clearly are trying to sneer at the iPad gaming scene. They just cant get away with it in the article so they use photoshop.

And yiu need peripherals for laptop games, to play any game you need a usb mosue and a usb controller with you. So how is the laptop superior like all those ign comments claims. Esp much less crsppy netbooks thst break every two years? It just pisses me off when ir ead sny comments on ign related to apple. Oh and even for ds you need peripherals -- the stylus.

PS3/Xbox with MGS4, SOCOM, Black Ops, Halo, Infamous, Killzone, GTA4, Uncharted, Borderlands, Resistance on a 60 inch or better for the win. Long Live the console. Can't wait for PSP4. Touch screen gaming is for girls.

"After all, one-off games frequently sell in the millions and become surprise hits, allowing their creators to finally move out of their mothers' basements and buy shirts without hoods."

--- ouch, really??? Thats a little below the belt

straight ports from iphone to ipad suck and they are just a money grab. but the ipad as a gaming platform is awesome
