I think it is impossible to argue with a person which a closed mind. The more we countered his argument, the more defensive he will get. Look at his article and how personal some of his comments are, all when he is arguing that it is about public policy.

DoS attack? ;)

(Denial of Service, btw, and that was a joke if you didn't catch it)

I have to say, it almost scary that there are people like this out there. Ignorance seems to be his policy.

Please do not send emails with an angry theme! Otherwise this will happen! To the person who claimed to post his home phone number, etc. That was reeaaaallly not smart. If we can prove that we are not a group of fanatical obsessed freaks then we have a chance at this. First this guy. We convince him. After that we get him to help in our cause-- not getting that district of Florida to ditch the Macs.

Let's be classy now. He wrote a dumb article, let's NOT DOS him.

<<There are a few threads on this, sorry for if you've read it in one of the others.>>

In Strongbad's famous words: Unsubscribe me! Take me offalist!

Seriusly folks, if you receive this paper, simply write a polite letter to Mr. Brooks, Mr. Connely, and the subscriptions desk and tell them you would like to NOT receive their newspaper based on Mr. Brooks poorly written article as it shows lack of professional journalism from a newspaper.

But there's probably like 3 people that get that paper anyhow.

This just cracked me up:

I've seen what owning one can do to people. And I don't want any part of that.

It's like saying "I've seen that people who own Macs actually love their computers. And I don't want to be part of that." lol

pouring energy into something makes it grow... don't waste your time on this moron. all the information is available at apple.com for anyone who can make logical and intelligent decisions.

if you must do something, please write a coherent letter to the school district outlining any personal (an positive) mac experiences that are school related.. then please direct them to apple.com and remind them about the apple store for education.

if someone is a numbers guy, then you could put together a compiled list of chart and graphs using keynote, filemaker, etc. (PC people love numbers right?) that show why macs are cost effective.

if you're really brave... have your own student (child) put something together on a mac and use that as an example of what kids can do with their mac.

... oh, but it's much easier to sit here and write a ****** email to a moron.

peace.

Hahah, games.

If we only knew what we were getting ourselves into (home builders who "save" money by building their own systems).

Unfortunately, all that money we save means better components (video card/memory) >> smoother/better gaming experience >> more gaming (b/c its enjoyable) >> less hw done. Macs are better in some ways after all.

HOWEVER, if you are a starcraft/warcraft fan, you are doomed b/c they are always released on both platforms.

Last paragraph from this article...

Even so, I doubt that I would ever buy a Mac. I've seen what owning one can do to people. And I don't want any part of that.

All I can say is he's most likely trying to bait people at this point. He's probably getting more attention now then he ever did and he's going to ride this as far as it will go. Sad, really.

Apple should send him a computer to work on for a month and see what happens.....

D

I sent the guy a letter also. I however lost my temper and told him to get a virus. He probably will at sometime or another.

Starcraft is the reason why I turned in so many assignments late...

Fun game to play...sigh.

Lets all write emails, nice emails, about Macs and how good they are. Not "you are a moron" things, but more "I disagree on your article completely. Here's why..." I'd bet he would listen. Quote that he doesn't know anything about Macs.

Sound like a good plan?

(His email address is at the bottom of the page, second page. End of the article.)

A very good plan and I have written to him. Going on the offensive will only turn him further off the subject.

I must admit to giving him a bit of 'friendly' journalistic advice on doing more research before writing an article though. Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Promise it was in good spirits though.

Nice! One issue: he says Explorer works good..... ;) :p

Next target: school system! Lets roll people!!

Ah... and then I read the new article to find it's already been done for me! Good work.

I have no need to waste large amounts of time in emailing him, but here's the short one I wrote this ignorant gentleman:

Mr. Brooks,

I appreciate your concern for the computer education of today's students. With the ever-widening reliance on computers in the business world, it is imperative that students become familiar with properly operating, and using to the highest level, the current state of computer technology. In order for students to gain a well-rounded ability to operate computer equipment, this use of computers should be extended into the home environment.

The current 'superpower' in office suite programs is Microsoft Office, the most popular office suite in the world. While this suite has it's largest market in the Windows world, a somewhat little known fact about this program is that there is a version of it available for Mac OS X, the current Mac operating system. With this program, a problem-free link can be made between a Mac-based computer and a Windows-based computer.

In the professional world, Macs are the number one choice of graphic design artists and other computer-based publishing, manufacturing, and research corporations. For example, the now-famous Pixar Studios, the creators of the animated film Finding Nemo and the current industry leaders, are exclusively using PowerMacs to create these animated films.

Yes, in the past, Macs have been 'on the outside', so to speak. But with new and changing technology, these systems are integrating easily with Windows computers, allowing students the ability to learn to operate all kinds of operating systems and programs, which will no doubt be most beneficial in today's, and tomorrow's, business environment.

WOW! I could be a politician I talk so smooth!!!

WTF !

Here's my email.

Dear Mr.Brooks,

"The Mac Attack" one piece of advise, research before you write.
One thing did come to mind... are you getting a slice of the 7 million that would be spend to down-grade the school computers?
I could take some time to write a detailed email pointing out all of your misinformed and biased quotes, but it would be a waste of time since you are obviously not open minded enough to accept facts.
I will now let you continue with your crusade.

May the fleas of 1000 camels infest your underwear.

FUBAR.
