I agree with Shadowfax- the new layout where they put the iDisk and Macintosh HD icons in the left pane makes it look way too much like XP. I'm also not a big fan of having the windows in Brushed Metal now, I, for one, still like Aqua with pinstripes. Though the top menu bar ugly. And those funny horizontal lines on the drop-down menus remind me of Gnome or KDE, BeOS even.

I also agree with iJon- I see nothing at ALL that would make me cough up $129. $29 maybe, but not $129

Dividers? I'm so glad they're back. Neatens it all up.

I'm not fond of the new finder either, I much prefer the current one. The exception to that is being able to put favorite folders down the left, makes file management so much easier (they're currently taking up room on my dock)

I think the under-the-hood improvements and swish new things coming justify the cost, it's not fair to judge now, it's only at alpha testing.

But to answer the orignal posters question, no, Panther is not my primary OS.

Too, how do you get the ipod to mount so that you can install the OS on it? It doesn't show up in start up disk selection in system preferences anywhere and I can't get it to mount with disk utility.
I have also read where it is hard on your ipod to boot from it and could cause damage to it...is there any confirmation of this from anyone?

the only thing i can think of it is that it might not be enabled as a FW hard drive.

plug in your ipod and when you boot from the cd it will be right there as a drive. you install it and boot from it, simple as that. people say here and there that you shouldnt do it, but ive done it and never had a problem with it, and other people shouldnt either. but if you are scared, as long as its under warranty what do you ahve to lose.

I tried rebooting and holding down the option key with the ipod hooked up and it doesn't show up as a drive option that way. Will try to boot from CD as you suggested.
