Since the Symfonisk speaker doesn't have a microphone how would it work WITHOUT an app?

Precisely. It can’t.

Thus my comment that device would be a nonstarter for me, as one who likes Apple Music but does not want to engage an app or device in order to listen to whatever I want to hear.

That’s the beauty of HomePod. It’s always on and the UI is driven by voice command.

Lamp is ugly but the shelf speaker looks very tempting at $99 especially if it has airplay. I think it would be cool to use as a shelf but wouldn’t it cause whatever’s on top to rattle?

The Sonos Bridge, which seems to now be the boost? I remember looking into Sonos before and it seemed to be you’d need this Sonos Bridge device?
The boost is basically a wifi extender. You don't need it if you have a decent wifi setup in your home. I have a Sonos Beam, 2 Sonos Play 1s and a Sonos One and nothing is plugged into my router - everything just connects to my wifi.

Agreed as I also have a Sonos Beam w/ 2 Sonos Ones in my bedroom & a Sonos PlayBar w/ 2 Play 3s in my den & all interconnected thru my wifi w/ out using a Sonos Bridge aka a wifi extender.

Airplay 2 is supported with newer Sonos speakers, including these so people with Apple devices at least don't need to use the Sonos App. Visitors would just need to be on the same wifi network. Bluetooth sound quality is definitely inferior to streaming over wifi.

Funny that you say that because I tested it with some audiophiles and people can't really tell the difference even between wired and bluetooth.

The idea is to prevent random people that are near your house from being able to play whatever they want to your speaker. Regardless, it's not really an issue anymore (if it were was) - you don't have to pair each phone with the app. Once the app is setup once, you can turn on AirPlay. Anyone that is on your WiFi network can AirPlay to the speaker without having to have the Sonos app installed.

Bluetooth is garbage. Plays phone notification sounds, requires the phone to be close to the speaker, is generally gross.

Sounds like another trend to criticise bluetooth. The internet is full of videos of people who can't tell the difference between bluetooth and wireless when it gets to sound. Actually I tested it with wired and bluetooth and people couldn't tell the difference. Even those who like you say that bluetooth is trash.
People just like to get pissed and random things so they can pretend that they are different from others.

I hope this lamp could be exposed to Apple HomeKit.

The price on the book shelf speaker is not to shabby! I usually get my Sonos speakers on the secondary market for about that price, but brand new. Might be something to look into and test out. These could be great for some of the smaller areas of the house!

Good for you. I’m still very happy with my Sonos setup since I can play music wirelessly to speakers throughout the house, and I use it as a 5 channel surround sound setup with my TV... it’s exactly what I want out of a sound system. I get that may not be the kind of setup you are looking for. You do what works for you...

I agree with you. Whatever suits the person. I recon that some people might like the Sonos setup which isn't a problem at all. The only thing that annoys me is those who keep on insisting on how bad bluetooth is, while they can't tell the difference when having two different systems side by side.

Come on, your take is just dumb. What I say is well documented. Bluetooth is good for certain things but not others. Relying on your phones battery to play music to a speaker that has an AC line is silly. Having to have the phone in the same room as the speaker is silly. Same for notification sounds to play over the music

Be smarter.

Well done. Really smart reply from your side. To call others dumb just based on your own assumptions and opinion is indeed the smartest thing to do.
This is simple. About having the phone in the same room, you make an assumption that people only stream music from their phone. Which is basically unfounded as you have no statistics on that.
Then to rely on the phone's battery? Same thing happens with a sonos system. If my phone or computer's battery dies, then it stops playing music as well. I don't see what's your point there to be honest.

If all the "smart things" you say are documented, why don't you take some time to post some articles here about it?
And as I've mentioned before, despite knowing all the tech bits behind bluetooth vs wifi, most people, including audiophiles, can't always tell the difference between the two systems. But probably it's because I'm not a mega ultra super duper genius like you. I'll try to read some books so I can one day be 10% as smart as you are. Thank you for educating me and making everybody else smarter.

Perhaps, one day, you can be as thoughtful as I am. Maybe. If you really put your all into it.

Bluetooth range is a documented thing. Sonos does not rely on your phones battery. Your phone can get smashed with a hammer and Sonos will continue to play. You don’t actually know what you are talking about, but you insist on being aggressive about what you don’t know.

The rest of your post is *still* dumb and wrong too, just like your first one. Give up already.

If that makes you sleep at night then let it be. I'm always amazed by people who insult others behind a computer. It shows bravery and strong character. It's almost poetic when I read that the only way you have of commenting on something, is to aggregate everything and then to insult the person.

Well done. Well done.
