Yeah, sorry to be fair - you can if you start with a completely blank iPhoto lib.

But once you've selected your location for storing the photos you are kind of stuck with the location unless you delete the lib and then create anew.

Really? Because with previous versions of iPhoto you could basically drag the photos folder to an external and point iPhoto to the new location.

Better still - have a word with the Macbook hardware dept. and ask them to make HDDs user-upgradeable parts - Moore's law also works for storage and with your behemoth that is iPhoto's database, we're all going to need to upgrade our hardware soon.

Macbook HDs are user upgradeable and always have been, they're in the battery compartment. MBPs are slightly tougher, but it's not like taking out screws and lifting the keyboard is rocket science.

The op has since "learned" that depressing the alt/option key when loading iPhoto will allow them to remap.

Noted, it's not that obvious and a menu option would be simpler.

Personally, I like it being awkward - that way you can keep ex's photos in different locations without the current one being able to easily find them. ;)

Underwhelmed

I installed iLife '09 and am highly underwhelmed. I have not been able to do one thing in iMovie '09, it just sits there with the loading symbol/thing spinning. It did get to the next step once, something about scanning iPhoto, after that it just hung again. Both times I have let it sit there for a couple hours and nothing. I have just given up and figured I would wait for a patch.

I agree with a previous post, this is becoming more common for things not to work right. Cant wait to see Snow Leopard...that ought to be a treat.

And I got iLife for $9.99 up to date price, I would have never spent $79 on this horrible software. The prefect combo so far has been iLife '08 with iMovie HD.

You do get a menu. Basically you get a finder window to locate your libraries so you could have a 'secret' one if you wanted. Just remember to remap the non secret one because iPhoto opens the last chosen library.

As I said this also works with iTunes it used to work with iWeb and probably still does. i.e. you can have more than one domain file (as the file has to be called 'Domain' it can be a bit dangerous messing around with multiple files with the same name). iMovie I don't know because after attempting to use iMovie 08 I have never bothered with it again.

1. With the places thing, you can move the pin around to get the place you want and rename it to what you want as well. Not as specific as you might be hoping for though.

2. With the Paris effect do you mean seeing all the photos perfectly geotagged and displayed? Zoom in :) Not sure what you mean by that.

Yeah, Faces is just plain useless unless you go manually tagging your entire library. And Facebook & Flickr integration is the most useless "feature" they've added. Since there was an official iPhoto Facebook export plugin that worked perfectly well, and way better than the "Apple" way.

Fair points. Try this:

  1. Open iPhoto 09
  2. Connect iPhone 3G
  3. Highlight image to import
  4. click "Import Selected"
  5. After import, options are "Delete Photos" or "Keep Photos"
  6. click "Keep Photos"
  7. Return to the photos on the iPhone 3G
  8. Gasp in amazement when you see iPhoto 09 has deleted the original.

I did this last night and you had me all stressed. I just checked the photos I downloaded to iPhoto 09 from my iPhone ... um yeah, not reading you... my photos are still there.

So tell us how you really feel about
I-Life09....come on now stop holding back......go ahead...vent your spleen :D

While i do agree with the OP that Places & Faces need some serious polishing, its not all that bad for me. It imports my photo's and tags them fine and doesn't delete them if i say not to.

I don't use iMovie or iWeb so i can't comment but Garageband works fine for me also

Then again maybe i'm just more relaxed because i didn't pay the full £69 for it but rather a fraction of that

I've been to Texas, Queensland. Nothing worth photographing there though. I agree with the rant about British English. There is a huge difference between the two cultures and for the Americans to take the role of cultural terrorists on what constitutes correct English is pretty poor PR. You should see some of the spanglish emails I get from Australians who are too lazy/ fell asleep in school/never learned their heritage. You are apparently unable to get a British English dictionary in XP2 or Vista in this country and certainly not in anything done by Adobe. Only Quark seems to be able to understand that English English is different to Anglish (American English) and is the correct form of the language in my opinion - after all, look at the name. It says it all really. Getting back to the important things - I upgraded (LOL) to the latest version of iPhoto and immediately lost all my nice little folders with all the dates so I could track where my photos were on the HD. Instead now I just get a strangled mess of grouped photos, many replications and general disorder. Makes it really hard to go and find an old photo through Photoshop to tweak for a press advert. OK it's late, I'll get my coat now. Note to self - stop stirring the Americans, they have no sense of humour (with a 'u')!!!!

You CAN store your photo library on external drive. (easy to transfer if you search).
In addition, MacBook harddrives ARE user upgradeable.

Keep in mind that they just released this and released the .1 update
so they are definitely working on improving it.

I think the new imovie is an amazing peice of software. Its easily the best video editing program i have used. Yes there are some programs that have more advanced features but iMovie makes the available features so easy to use. As for iPhoto i use aperture so i havent even launched it.

"I've been to Texas, Queensland."

Arti...how far is that from my old stomping grounds of Moranbah Q?

As for the Yank "Licensure", Apple's decision making in all this is largely based on market share, wouldn't you think?
