Man, you guys are grouchy. Virtually the entire Mac range has had recent updates, which is pretty much a first for Apple since the Intel transition. Now both rumours and retailers are letting slip a new iLife and possibly iWork are coming. What more do you want? :p

Come on! I have a right to be grouchy.
The past 18 months or so almost all we have seen and heard about are iPhones and mobile apps.
It would be nice to see more about Mac software programs for a change.

Not until the October media event.
That'd have to be one hell of an update to iWork and iLife to justify a media event. There are no other products to update this year except the Air, and there's no way Apple does an event for those three. I wouldn't even expect a media event for 7" iPads unless something additional was in the offing.

I doubt there's going to be any more Apple events until iPad 2.0, unless they do a preemptive one before the Verizon CES announcement regarding the Verizon iPhone and iPad functionality.

I'm eager to find out whether the rumor's true that iDVD will be missing from iLife 11. Perhaps Apple will choose to make it part of the OS, like iTunes. But if iDVD disappears entirely, I'll pass on upgrading. I use iDVD more than iMovie for quickly assembling video projects.

I could see iDVD being part of the new iMovie 64.

iPad rev 2 in October.;)

I think you are right. Any new release of iWork & iLife will just be a basic roll out.
We have heard of a total revision to Final Cut Pro coming. I bet the release of that will be part of an event.

Well there's always the long-neglected full-code rewrite of Final Cut Studio. Logic could use an update as well.

I'll light a candle, but I'm not too hopeful.

the only thing I look forward to upgrading is iMovie, which is a really basic program that a lot of free third-party programs outdo.

sorry WHAT? I can't think of any free video editing programs that offer post-production footage stabilization.

maybe there are, but im pretty sure iMovie is the one and only.

You just picked one specific feature. What about file format compatibility, for example? See how that works?

Pathetic argument. Find me a piece of software on OS X that offers image stabilization for less than 80 bucks that is as simple and intuitive as iMovie. iLife ALONE is worth it for the image stabilization. If I have to re-encode a couple of files, I can use free software such as HandBrake. If you have to have image stabilization that works as well as it does in iMovie... well good luck to you for finding anything.

I'd also love for you to list these "free third-party programs" that apparently "outdo" iMovie.

I'm hoping for ODF format support in iWork. Then all office compatibility problems on any platform are sorted for me.

In the past, iWork and iLife have been released together. Is it possible this year they will release them separately? Or maybe iLife was ready and they are just finishing up iWork.

iWork needs to be a big update this year with Office 2011 coming out.

My Wish List

My wish list for iPhoto:
Import iPhone 4 movies into iMovie instead of iPhoto.

Need I say more?:D

To be honest, I'd rather it just dropped the files into the "Movies" folder, I never use iMovie.
I could live with that too since it would be very easy to manually import them into iMovie from there.

I use iPhoto all the time. I just don't use it for editing movies. :apple:

I hope that iWeb 11 will come with SEO integrated and that all pages in a website will be deep-linkable and indexed by Google spiders (etc.)

Furthermore the possibility to add a automated box indicating to the users of my website the latest changes / alterations.

iLife / iWork

It'd be nice for Apple to seem excited about their Mac Software again (iLife, iWork, etc.) like they are for iOS...

Just my two cents also.
Iwork (specially numbers) has so much where to go to. They just feel neglected for the last, what... 18 months now?
And with Office 2011 just around the corner, it's about time to get some word of mouth behind Apple's products also.

I thought iLife/iWorks was end of life and 09 will be the last version

Why would you think that? iLife and iWork are very successful on the Mac platform, Keynote is still one of the best presentation applications on the market. Most people do not need the full power that Office for Mac brings and because of the cheaper price of iWork, it's good enough for most people. iLife is one of the most easiest software suites to work with for people who take causal photos and movies. There's not a lot of competition on the Mac platform against iLife.

My feeling is that Apple has delayed the iWork along with iLife from the usual August launch due to the upcoming Office for Mac release. They want the extra time to add more features and optimize it more. There is one thing that Apple knows how to do well and that is how to time their software release to take full advantage of the media for free plus limiting the amount of press time to the other companies.
