Maybe refresh or check the updates tab?

Nope nothing seems to work. I expect it will show up tomorrow as everything still needs to propagate across apples systems. If it doesn't show up in the next few days Ill email apple.

Thanks Apple for screwing over the ones that bought it on discs. What a joke.

You have a short memory. Back in on disk days, you had to pay for every single update! Apple have given you free updates for 5 years!! Quit moaning.

No sir, that's not true for me. The firs iWork I bought was '09. I'll moan about this all I want. It's called bad business. I'm tired of dealing with big companies and snobs like you. Get a life.

Here is what I think happened. Apple has no way of verifying that you actually purchased iWork (I know you probably have a receipt). The problems with apple software distributed by disks was that there was no type of license-key or license verification. Apple relied on your honesty of not borrowing your dvd to your friends and allowing everyone running a free copy of iWork. In short, theres no record in apples servers that you purchased the software.

Wow. They give us Mavericks for free and free updates for 4 year old software and you're upset about the potentially not updating it anymore for free? Go check out Microsoft and Adobe and you'll realize that Apple ain't bad.

That makes more sense, but still not good enough. I used my Apple ID to purchase iWork. When I bought it, it was only $30, but now, it's $20 for each one. If they would at least make it the price it used to be, I'd be more okay with it.

Wow, I don't like being gipped and that's a bad thing? So naive.

Oh that's asinine! I bought a new Macbook Air 2013 in late August and I take it my computer is not eligible for the new free iLife update? They should at least support the newest yearly updated versions.

Wow, I would check update if I was you. I have a iMac i got in January and I got the updates.

Actually this does make sense, its apples anti piracy protection. I know you signed in to the apple store to purchase your version of iWork, but your purchase is not registered with the MAS and thats why youre not eligible for the update. Im not saying youre wrong in being annoyed, I would be aswell. Im simply providing what I think is a technical explanation. You can email Apple and see what they say.

So you are telling me that the people that bought a 27 iMac in 2011, like me, which came with iLife 11 disks included, are not going to get updated. I have 9.43 for iPhoto. Of course I have Garageband, iDVD and iMovie. If I have to purchase all of them, will it install over the old versions?

I don't like that I have to pay for an update for the same application. iLife 11 is iLife 11. I would be willing to pay for iLife 13 , but this is just an update for what I already paid for when I bought me computer. Apple can check easily that I own a 2011 iMac purchased from them with iLife 11 installed.

Please try to explain the logic of charging again for the same item?

My 2012 MBA just got the update for iMovie and iPhoto. iPhoto doesn't seem much different, still waiting on iMovie. It's a fricken 2 GB update

I agree. I was simply approaching this from a technical standpoint. Personally I think everyone should get the update for free, I was simply providing an explanation as to why this is happening. Please everyone, direct your anger at Apple support, you never know it might show some results.

If you registered with your apple id, you can go to the app store, buy it, but it won't actually charge you. At least it didn't charge me. It looked like it did, but I ended up getting a $0.00 receipt for the purchase.

I updated iMovie and now it seems that the old version is still installed.. in Launchpad I see both and in the Application folder is also a folder called iMovie 9.0.9 in addition to new one ...

Anyone got the same problem?

I have an 2009 Macbook Air for home (came with disc) and a 2013 Macbook Air for work and I downloaded the update on my 2013 then saw on my 2009 under purchases I could just click the install button. Totally happy with that solution.

I called Apple support and they said it is a paid upgrade for those of us who bought the discs.

That's really disappointing.

Even worse... it says free to those who purchased after October 1st. I got mine I think just a few days before (sometime between September 23-30) I believe.

I wonder if they'll let me have them.

I'd suggest that if you are annoyed with the full-fare "upgrades" on iLife applications that you look at alternatives. As long as you have to pay for a "new" application take advantage of moving to an application that might serve your needs better.

If you're a student, take a hard look at Adobe's stuff. They have a couple of tiers of student pricing and it's WAY better than anything Apple offers.

And although Tim Cook made fun of Office 365's subscription pricing in the keynote, for many of us it makes sense over random upgrades for former iWork applications. Aperture, eg, is getting rather stale and I have no idea if I'll have to pay for another "full" version or whether I'll be getting freebies from the MAS in perpetuity. Apple can't tell you. If you're committing to software for the long haul it's not a great business model. Looking back over years of software ownership and upgrades some stuff was a way better bargain than Apple's (and not even considering Appleworks, Clarisworks, MacPaint, etc etc); better to invest in Graphic Converter, eg, than iPhoto.

How will it work if I buy the Mac App Store version of iPhoto '11 right now, when I already have iPhoto '11 on my computer (that came when I bought my computer).

Will it over-write my current app?

Don't wait to be told there are updates. Go to the App Store and search for them. That's what I had to do.

Don't see why you'd pay to re-download the iWork apps.
I'll just have to go to iCloud.com to use them...
