I'm with AT&T ever sine the release of the iphone 3g. I watch my TV from home using slingbox(I think that takes up most of my data). I also watch netflix, youtube and HBOgo on the iphone. And I listen to espn radio and Iheartradio as well.

My work is very relaxed and they don't care if I'm watching TV while I do my work as long as it gets done. That's why I'm up to 11GB of data.

But my work is merging with another company in the next few months and that relaxed atmosphere will be no more, so i expect my data usage to go down to about 2GB.

I use Netflix and I still don't go over THAT much. The most I've ever gone over was about 5-6GB of data, and that was because I was in a location that had no wifi for about 2 weeks. You must be watching tv ALL day lol.

I'm at 3 GB of data so far this cycle on Verizon and have been throttled back. No wifi at work. Tested the speed at work and consistently at 400-500 kbs the last week and a half since it kicked in. Friend at work has the iphone 4 too on verizon. His speeds are consistently at 1.4-1.8 Mbs. Side by side tests. So it's not part time throttling, but full time throttling. Since they are going to throttle me, I'm going to stream full time just to rack up the data to the max. So at night, I will have my phone stream music with speaker on mute, and let it go through the night, every night.

Don't forget that it's not just this whole month that you get throttled... but also all of next month as well :(

Yep. But since I download 2 to 3 GB of data by streaming music every month, I will be throttled anyway, so might as well see if I can consistently get it over 10 GB a month from now on.

With iCloud (mainly iTunes Match) my usage has skyrocketed. Before I was using ~1-2gb now I've used close to 6gb.

I feel like a lot of people are going to be switching from the 250mb to 2gb plans when iCloud officially launches. Lucky me, I grandfathered into an unlimited plan whenever I upgraded to my 4. Hopefully I can do the same when I upgrade my phone again (probably won't be for another year or so).

I didn't get any notices, but I'm definitely up there with you.

Verizon shows my current usage at 9.8GB with 13 days left in my cycle this month.

I stream SiriusXM radio at work from 8:30 - 4:30 and that continues in the car home until 5:30, then again from about 7 - 10pm although that's on WiFi so nevermind.

All this and daily app updates, Netflix, Hulu, and porn other fine viewing makes for hefty data usage.

Obviously the bulk of it is SiriusXM. I love me some Ron & Fez. :)
hay buddays!

No love for O&A?

Its people like this who we can all thank for tiered data plans. I mean wtf are you doing on your phone that your using that much? STREAM NETFLIX on your home internet!!!!! People like this are exactly why AT&T & Verizon throttle. I am so glad they do.

Then I love when they say: "I pay $30 and I'll use as much as I like." ****** crybabies god damn. I really think people use excessive amounts of data because THEY CAN.

I remember when I used to jailbreak tether my iPhone to my MacBook Pro while on the road on like car trips. I would use like 12-14gb of data a month and AT&T couldn't do **** about it since I have unlimited.

Why don't people use WiFi when at work and home instead of 3G?
I use more data than minutes..... I work 60 hours a week on the road... That's The reason why I got unlimited data years ago...

:cool:That's why people got unlimited data in the first place... To use it as much as THEY want ! Same reason some people get unlimited minutes! To call as much as they want... Next they will be slowing down your dam calls.....

You mad cause you didn't have unlimited before they got rid of it?
Someone call whine-one-one cause you need a whambulance.

Actually they could do something about it. It's unlimited for the one device (your phone) not unlimited to be used anyway you see fit.

That's the dumbest thing I've hear in a bit, fail child, fail...

i usually use 3.5GB of data each month streaming music, and watching youtube videos.

This Month I used 7.5gb watching a ton of HBOGO shows like deadwood and boardwalk empire... never realiazed how easy it is to get up in GB. 11GB is def easy to get up to if you watch movies or shows over 3g!

Not this stupid analogy again. Data is data regardless of how you use it. If I buy a chocolate candy bar at a store....... it doesn't matter if I eat it with my hands in one bite or cut it into pieces and eat it with a knife and fork.

Besides, he could pay for a separate tethering plan if he so chooses, making your point irrelevant.

Obviously you didn't read your contract. A better analogy would be people who use to use de-scramblers to get cable channels they didn't pay for or reprogrammed sat cards to receive channels they didn't pay for both of which are illegal BTW. If he payed for a tethering plan that's one thing, but he specifically mentioned JB tethering which completely makes your attempt at a point moot.

You made a typo there child, you meant "heard".
You call me a child, yet you don't know my age. Fail.

Thanks for the catch on a missed keystroke, what would I do without you. I don't need to know your age to determine your maturity level. You are either a child or you're not and in the latter that case seek help.

I have read my contract and am aware of the consequences there are if I overstep my boundaries.

If you read his post correctly he said he used to do it. You cannot do it anymore because ATT has cracked down on those who still do. Tethering through JB'ing your iPhone has been around for long before ATT decided to do something about it and charge you separately for it (in the end it's all about $$$ anyway). Androids have this as a standard feature on their devices....... iPhone has it too (mobile hotspot anyone?) So again, I'm not sure where it is that I'm losing you.

Either way, we're getting way OT from this thread.

You're still not making a point... He said used to and there was nothing they could do about it, which was incorrect. He breached his contract and there WAS something they would do about it. Maybe you should go back and read his post correctly. Stop trying to take pieces of it out of context and trying to make a point that doesn't exist.

You use some stupid analogy about a candy bar as proof that 'data is data' but when a proper analogy is used you ignore it. If you can't refute it it doesn't exist mentality. There has always been stipulation on who 'unlimited' can be used but people hear unlimited and they they can do anything they want with it.

How is what he is saying incorrect? Do you know how many people used to tether through JB before ATT cracked down? Do you know how long it was going on for prior to that? Do you think it was done because it was the "cool" thing to do? Obviously ATT did do something about it, but at the time they didn't. This isn't Back to the Future and you aren't Marty McFly. How is my analogy of a candy bar incorrect in regards to data? If I rack up 10GB of data use by streaming donkey porn on my iPhone......... or if I JB tethered it to watch donkey porn on my laptop for bigger visual pleasure.... in the end it's still 10GB of non stop donkey porn no? You make absolutely no sense.

Feel free to take pieces of my reply and make your own twisted interpretation in order to support your narrow views, but for the sake of everyone else reply to me via PM. I have an hour to kill at work and could use some entertainment.

Mad? Not at all. I don't need unlimited. I'm not on my phone 24/7 watching netflix. My point was that its because people use that much is why wireless providers eliminated the unlimited option. I have seen many people state: "Well just because its unlimited, I'll purposely use as much as I want." This has ruined it for not only new subscribers but those who never abused the unlimited plan because they'll now be throttled. They now have to throttle to maintain the network for those who don't abuse it. Totally understandable. It just cracks me up when I see people using more than 5GB of data on a smartphone. What is this world coming to, I mean really? God, people must never put the damn phones down. Pathetic.

'How what he was saying was incorrect.' He said they couldn't do anything but they could cancel his account. Point =Me he's incorrect

'How many people tethered. Was it cool?' A lot. A lot of people pirate media too, doesn't make it right. The fact that a lot of people do something doesn't change a thing.
Point= Me.

'Your incorrect analogy, donky porn.' You didn't sign a contract when you bought that candy bar did you? There is a huge difference when you buy something outright and when you pay for the right to use a service. We all agree to usage stipulations when we sign up for a service.
Point=Me

Took every attempt at a point you make and refuted it. Like I said a proper analogy is the cable service one I made before. That signal is nothing but data and to receive data (channels) I didn't pay for (free tethering). This was made illegal years ago because (to borrow your point) a lot of people were doing it. Gaining access to a service you didn't pay for the right to have access to is wrong.

It has nothing to do with how much data people use. It's a way for the networks to make more money. To prove my point, Verizon says if you go above 2gb of data on a congested network while on an unlimited plan, you will be throttled down but if you get a tiered plan and pay for the over usage, magically there is no capacity problem and you can still use the phone at fast speeds . It's about money and they would have done that no matter how much data people used.

Great point Ramio :)

I guess Verizon really doesn't care about if your constantly streaming Netflix and congesting the network as long as they are getting paid $10 overage charges per gb ;)
