Mad? Not at all. I don't need unlimited. I'm not on my phone 24/7 watching netflix. My point was that its because people use that much is why wireless providers eliminated the unlimited option. I have seen many people state: "Well just because its unlimited, I'll purposely use as much as I want." This has ruined it for not only new subscribers but those who never abused the unlimited plan because they'll now be throttled. They now have to throttle to maintain the network for those who don't abuse it. Totally understandable. It just cracks me up when I see people using more than 5GB of data on a smartphone. What is this world coming to, I mean really? God, people must never put the damn phones down. Pathetic.

I've hit 5GB on more than one occasion without a smartphone. I guess that means I'm pathetic, right?

God forbid someone uses their phone as a radio, tv, and gps navigator.

....but then, they're not throttling the network because of abuse. They're throttling it because they want more money. Nothing more.

Of course they want more money. They are in business to make money. They price their service to make a profit. A tiered plan is profitable no matter the usage. An unlimited plan is not profitable if someone uses tens of GB.

My crap-tastic AT&T signal is so poor, I'm lucky if I use 100mb a month.

My wife averages 20 GB a month on the unlimited plan since she watches Netflix at work. I rarely hit 1 GB and I'm on the 2 GB plan.

Why is att worried about the 2% of people that go over 2GB that they have to throttle them? Makes no sense that they have to use their money/resources to slow down a small percentage of their customers.

Yes, it is still (very) profitable...just not as profitable as a tiered plan.

Look at it this way. These companies pay out half their profits in dividends. They have to make a certain amount of profit or shareholders would revolt. If everyone on the unlimited plan used 10gb+ , they would have to spend a lot more on network upgrades.

But I would say if it's only 2% that abuse, why bother going through all this trouble.

They could also just be lying about the "only 2% use more than 2gb" #'s in order to make it seem strange for someone to use more than that. Have they ever given a single shred of evidence that this is true besides their word? (which means nothing when someone is looking out for their own profits)

Not only that but they could be making **** up and meaning 2% of their total customers (even non-smartphone users)...

I just got an email and text today it says "High Data Usage Alert" I made it with 10 days left on my billing cycle. My total for this month so far is 11.3 GB. Anybody else make it to the 5% club?

Me too. I at 10.7 12 days left.
HboGO is killing me

Oh man... I feel for you. AT&T really is a miserable company to deal with. Well, the next iPhone's supposed to be a world phone, so hopefully you can switch to Verizon or Sprint then!

Oh man, how is living in an area with a poor ATT signal make ATT a miserable company to deal with? Answer: It doesn't.

Most of my data use comes from work, where the wifi is limited to the patients. I used to listen to streaming music off the company's ethernet. When they called a halt to that, I was forced to use my phone for streaming audio.
At home, I have cable internet, so why would I use the slower 3G at home?
Why don't people use WiFi when at work and home instead of 3G?

I agree it's the consumers that are screwing it up. Mobile internet shouldn't be used as primary internet especially at home or at work if you can.

I'm grandfathered into the unlimited and I ALWAYS default to WiFi first. If I can't access WiFi then of course 3G. At home I NEVER use 3G.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

Consumers aren't screwing anything up. They bought unlimited data. They should expect to have it, and use it.

I'm still on unlimited data and have always been above the 2GB threshold. But over the past few months I have been extremely busy with school and work, my data usage has literally dropped to 500MB a month. Deciding if I want to dump unlimited for tethering for my iPad, but I have a feeling I may regret that in the future not knowing what 4G plans will be like.

I don't understand something- it seems to be a point of pride to use huge amounts of data.

Is this (apparently) wonderful accomplishment based on some laudable skill. Does it indicate some unique ability that leads one to announce to others about it with what appears to be pride?

I guess I'm missing something great - but Mazel Tov, anyway. :D

U mad?

if not pride, then stupidity. Such people must think the only way to listen to music or watch movies is streaming and when their data plan won't support their gluttony, they whine.

i use about 7GB+ a month yes i have nothing else to do at work but listen to music/youtube stream ect..:D we do have wifi at work i use it sometimes but lately its been slow because co workers are using there phones watching corn:eek: ect..sucking up the wifi speed i get less then 1MB down/up with att 3G i get 5MB down/3MB up:D....

do you think 4G will offer unlimited on iphone when iphone gets a 4G chip??

companies are using data to make more money..so glad i kept my unlimited data:)
