Man, the android notification system must be godly because when I messed around with the Droid X at Verizon, the OS seemed very clunky. It was not smooth at all to switch between pages and it seemed there was a slight lag when tapping on the screen. Hopefully they aren't all as bad as that cuz that was awful.

lol complete opposite of OP. I love android, hate ios.

Android's got it's own flaws (primarily marketplace) but it makes up for it with it's cons namely the widget system + notification system.

the ios has the WORST notification system I've ever used, it's all up in your face and you have to deal with it first. Yes iphone's got a lot of cool apps + games, but what's the point of all those games when you're getting texts every few minutes from different people that interrupt the game play?

Also, I hate how on ios I have to go to different apps to look at my facebook/twitter updates and the weather. I liked android's widget system because it's all there on your home screen, I don't have to be jumping between programs to see everything.

Also, androids just a lot more fun to tweak. All those different launchers (ADW is my fav personally) makes the phone a lot faster than it really is. I'll be honest, when I first got my nexus, I thought "this CANNOT be 1 ghz. It's too sluggish!" turns out with one or two apps off the market place, it ran like a champ no slowdowns consistently smooth.

With the iphones walled off world it can be quite annoying to get around everything just to tweak something. Also that constant battle with jailbreak/no jailbreak between you the user and apple is quite annoying as well. Yes many will argue it's "for your own good" but god dammit, i payed for this smart phone, I'll do whatever the hell I want to it.

Either way, comes down to what the user wants. Both have their strong points (ios = BEST SOFTWARE KEYBOARD EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR) and their weakpoints and it really does come down to the minor details. But I just personally prefer android over ios.

That being said, I think I'll still keep my iphone 4 and use it to try out new ios revisions (like what I've been doing to my Touch diamond 2 lol, force that thing to run windows phone series 7).

Is the antenna issue really THAT big of a deal to swap from an iPhone? Just don't touch that one spot, it really isn't THAT big of a deal or a deal breaker.

I've lived with it for this long with no case, and no problems.

Unless your a lefty, then that could be different......

Well if you spend $600-800 for a phone, you'd expect that you have the ability to hold the phone however it feels comfortable to you..

Although I heard that the antenna issue is not with most the phones anyway?

Arguing which OS is better is like arguing over which pizza tastes best, or if you prefer Pepsi over Coke. There's no right or wrong answer. Try your options, find what works for you, and run with it.

Scientific fact that Coke is better than Pepsi.

I've not tried a Droid X, but if I did, I'd sure not take a store phone as being representative. As for slowness, my own iOS devices stagger at times, especially the one with 4.x.

I find the Droid Incredible to be quite smooth and fast. The ability to selectively use Flash has proven to be quite handy, with no downsides.

For my needs, there's no lack of good Android apps and widgets, with more every day. (I'm not a gamer, but I see that EA is jumping in now that Android is predicted to be 50% of the smartphone market within a few years.)

Well I paid $340 or something like that with tax @ subsidized price.

I hold it just the same as my 3G with no problem. No adjustments needed.

I just think it has a lot to do with the perfect cloud that apple has made, that makes it's users think they're so deserving. Making a big fuss about....nothing!

Interestingly, it’s not because Android is more widely available. In fact, Android is only available on 59 carriers vs. 154 for iPhone, but the issue is that Apple lacks deals with some of the world’s largest wireless carriers—Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD), Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) Germany, NTT DoCoMo (NYSE: DCM) and China Mobile.

^^ Interesting if Verizon gets iPhone, how much are they willing to pay Apple for each device. And you have to think vice-versa with Android on AT&T? Without the exclusivity with iPhone, AT&T can promote Android phones better. They were the last U.S. major carrier to really bring out a top Android phone starting with the Captivate. X10 is a utter disappointment and for $349 with a no contract price, I know why.

Read Charbax's comments. Makes some interesting points. Apple will have to sell the iPhone cheaper, make another variation, or it will be stuck in the niche market. Perhaps they don't care and just continue to make $$ hand over fist, but Verizon don't care either and will continue to make tons of money on Android. Big egos vs big egos here.

First and foremost, I wanted to be on a highly dependable carrier. Sorry but Verizon blows AT&T out of the water when it comes to 3G coverage and call quality.

For you. Where I live, and other people live that is not the case. Why do people continue to make these arguments. It is like a 3 foot man saying all door handles are too high.

I was so excited to see the Samsung Galaxy (don't know which one) because of the good reviews and the screen that I saw from someone who I saw had the phone. I thought, if I didn't get an iPhone, I'd probably get the Galaxy since it has a large screen and is very pocketable.

Boy was I wrong!

I opened up the web browser (the icon looks very bad) and found the animation to be off putting. The scrolling and zooming is not smooth, and the screen doesn't compare to the retina display. It's really bright and all, but it looks fuzzy in comparison. Also just trying to navigate the phone was pretty confusing. Weird contextual menus with strange icons would appear when trying to copy text for example. When I first used iOS on an iPod touch 1G when it first came out, I didn't even need instructions.

The live wallpapers are pretty cool, but there's nothing about Android that is appealing. It's like the new Blackberry. It kinda sucks, but it has one thing going for it. The Blackberry has BBM, and Android has 'openness' which honestly doesn't mean a thing. I hoped that Android would have progressed further by now. Too bad.

Some of you may remember me (like samcraig), others may not. I own a LOT of Apple equipment, and I consider myself a pretty big Apple supporter (I don't call myself a fanboy). After getting the iPhone 4 and having an antenna issue I told myself "enough is enough" and got rid of my iPhone 4 in favor of a Nexus One. This was the 3rd Nexus I have owned, I sold the other 2 after some months of owning them.

I used my Nexus, enjoyed my Nexus, and became somewhat of an Android fanboy. I then got a Milestone (the UK Droid, AT&T equivalent), and the HTC Aria (another AT&T Android phone). I was thinking Android had finally won be over. Then I traded someone a few netbooks for a Dell Streak (Android 5" phone made by Dell). Then it hit me the other day, I really dislike Android.

All of these months I was thinking I liked Android, when the reality of it was that I liked the new HARDWARE I had been using, Android just happened to be the OS on those devices! Once the "new toy" factor wore out of me I found myself bored. The quality of apps was just terrible. The lack of a quality copy and paste was terrible. I have traded some old electronics crap for an iPhone 4 and once again I am happy with my phone. Turns out I was just bored of the "grid of icons" and wanted a change for a bit.

Has anyone else gone through something like this with their technology? Would people be happy of iOS was able to run on other hardware like the Evo to throw in some variation?

TL;DR: I got bored of iOS, bought a bunch of Android phones, got bored of them and came back to iOS. Turns out I was just tired of the lack of hardware variation.

sorry to say this, but sounds like your life revolves around gadgets waaay too much

as someone posted, I think with age, comes maturity = realize that you don't need the newest gadgets all the time

It's personal preference. I played with a Galaxy for a while. It has alot of bells and whistles.

iOS doesn't have all the bells and whistles. BUT iOS simply to me is a better os because it just works well and is more simple. iOS just works better than the droid(galaxy) in my opinion. Much smoother experience in my opinion.

I'll take smoother and simple over bells and whistles.

The only thing that I was jealous was flash. In fact it made me very jealous, lol. I have an online business and work my biz 95% of the time on my iPhone and really would love flash.

Now that's my personal preference.

I agree. Especially when it comes to a phone. For me it's a tool that I (typically) quickly grab out of my pocket to look something up or check something, etc. I want it to be simple and smooth, fast and easy.

But I understand that to some people their phone is something that they tinker with on a regular basis. In this case I can totally see going with an Android phone over the iPhone.

Welcome back. I´ve never used an Android phone as of yet, i have to say that i´m quite curious to try one of them out sometime though. Anyway, Apple needs serious competition to progress, so it´s good to have those phones around.

Apple does restrict you in some unnecessary ways, like not being able to change the SMS Tone. It would also be nice to be able to use every .mp3 File as your ringtone. That being said, use whatever works best for you. If you like to mess around with your phone and customize it to no end, you´ll probably should go down the Android Route. If you want to have a stable platform that just works, use the iPhone.

When you get sick of the grid UI again...

Get yourself a Windows Phone 7 for a few months and let us know how the tiles are.

It actually seems decent. Great hardwise, some neat ideas software wise, and actual quality control unlike Andriod.

I don't get it? I've looked at the icon and can't decipher it. Elaborate?

Curiousity is getting the best of me!

Download AT&TScanner in the AppStore

It's free, and pretty cool. I'm starting to see a lot more of these barcodes on posters on the DCMetro and movie posters and stuff
