My next apple laptop will probably be quad core, 8gb of ram and a 256+ gb SSD. Some time in 2012 I think. So apart from curiosity, I don't really care when the update will come.

Why 2012? Apple could offer an MBP with these specs today if they wanted to. Hell, you didn't even mention blu-ray! :)

Honestly with Apple's QC as of late and a new chipset, I expect their to be issues first revs are bad news.Look at the i7 imac's:rolleyes:

buy what you need now be happy, these speed increase's will do very little for most users anyways.

Hopefully they learnt their lesson with the bad publicity from those screens and tested the new macbook hardware more thoroughly.

I'm waiting for Quad cores or it's a no go at all. It's the only thing that will help me with a program that is core dependent. I simple can't get much faster at this point with my MBP without Quads. It's maxed out now so nothing I can do but wait. Problem is not sure Apple was even going for Quads. It seems to me they are forgetting about mobile workhorses for the Professional Photographers, Graphic designers and video producers that just need rockets in mobile computing. Seems to me Apple is more consumer oriented now with items being left off like express card ports and some professional limitations to save power and cut costs. Last thing I need is cutting costs on my computing power. I shoot with massive digital backs with a 40 mpx cam and I just flat out need horsepower. Oh well not the end of the world folks and bottom line it's Apples loss if they don't refresh the line.

wow, what did you do before even duo cores were around? sit around with your thumb up your ***?

well I think thats it wholly depends on what the expected updates will be. The movement to a new processor architecture is well worth the wait (although the wait is far too long) but for lesser processor bumps and HD bumps I think its good to buy whenever you need it

Because by then,I suppose they will be available not only in top end configurations.

i have a home theater so i don't really care about blu ray and optical drives altogether.
