Steve Jobs was talking about performance per watt. The Pentium 4 does NOT have that from what I've seen. It is one of the hottest running desktop processors around. Yes, hotter than the G5.

Part of the mystique about owning and using Apple products for me is their uniqueness, and that things like their processors aren't like what every Joe Schmoe has in their computer next door. Kind of likethe exclusiveness of owning a BMW or specialty vehicle, if you will. Yeah, I know they use PC hard drives and other components, but you get what I mean...
For me, the idea of having an Intel processor, which, what, 75% of the world's machines have in them? - Spoils the experience for me a bit.
Feel free to call me crazy, but it's getting less and less "fun" to be a mac owner with this transition. Ans yes, I have been through the other transitions, too, which pale in comparison.
Thoughts?
No worries - I'm sure Apple will continue to let you pay twice the price for similar hardware so you can feel more exclusive. And once you feel better you may discover it's really OS/X that makes the real difference.iGary said:Part of the mystique about owning and using Apple products for me is their uniquenessr ....

Many of you sound like your on crack. Exotic? Exotic as a three toed sloth. We've been second best for ages now. We are always waiting for the next best thing, faster this, faster that and it never comes.JackSYi said:I feel the exact same way you do buddy. Owning a Mac with an exotic processor like the PowerPC is what makes our community special. It is as if we are now merging into the masses. Oh well, I trust Steve.

Begun the attack of the clones Apple has.

Doesn't matter whether it's good or bad, Apple took the headache, timewaster, and moneypit called PowerPC and go rid of it.Foniks Munkee said:Bogus - there is nothing wrong with the x86 architecture. Yes apple has fed that line for years, why not - it WAS the competition. Just wait a couple of weeks and you'll see benchmarks from apple showing the exact opposite. Within 5 years most Mac users will be saying "Intel is awesome". This has all happened before and to be honest, the PPC is not THAT good. Its merely good.
