I got lucky. Walked to get a coffee about 9:00am, stopped over at the AT&T store across the street and stood inline with 20 people for about an hour to reserve one for the afternoon shipment. Picked it up at 3:00pm. True story, bro.

City of Boston is dry too. Went to Apple & AT&T and said they'd be receiving regular shipments but weren't sure when. It's frustrating. They'll eventually be available and I'll still be buying it whenever it does.

I'm annoyed by it all but I guess I'll never understand why Apple does this every year. They know the iPhone will sell like hot cakes. Why not ramp up production to meet anticipated demand? Or is the mystique of it selling out and being a highly sought after item more important?

Maybe you should have....
reserved it
preordered it
stood in line thursday
stood in line...TODAY?

its not launch day. its been close to a week. they should have phones in stock at the apple store assuming he went relatively early in the day

Considering I walked into an apple store on Friday at 2pm and bought one within 5 minutes, you would think they would easily be available today. I'm sure that was the thought process of the OP. Calm down people.

All we have here in Wichita is att stores. I was ready to go this morning but I was asked to work my day off. Working the 8 hours today is worth more than the price of a phone. I don't really want to drive down to an apple store only to have them be sold out (since apple isn't doing the availability like past years) so I just ordered this afternoon from their website. 7-10 days shipping. If I find one b/4, great! If not, then hopefully i'll have it by next saturday (I work for the post office, and my order ships through them so I get saturday delivery)

You can order them right now on AT&T site and delivery is within 2 days of order.
Yes you can order them, but delivery will not be within 2 days of the order, no matter what the site says. They can't deliver what they don't have.

Considering how bad the iphone 4 is, I would assume there are dozens here that would be willing to sell you their 'broken' iPhone 4

You have to blame Apple for the shortages, they planned it this way. Even with the reported issues and the terrible economy, people are still buying the iPhone 4. You can create a higher demand for a product by good advertising and then limiting the supply.

Apple wants everyone to buy the iPhone 4 and get rid of their iPhone 1st, 2nd and 3rd Generation models. Apple even stopped including a sim card removal tool and dock, so we get less for our money.

Another tool Apple used was the OS4 upgrade. Doesn't run on the original iPhone. Runs like crap on the iPhone 3G, with less features. Even the iPhone 3GS is having issues with OS4. Apple doesn't officially allow you to return to the previous OS. And many of the apps aren't optimized for OS4, lots of the developers are releasing entirely new OS4 apps, making customers pay again.

While they may be artificially limiting supply it doesn't seem likely. Not many other products move over 1 million units in the first three days...

LMAO, why would Apple cause shortages of their own item?! They're a publicly traded company. The more they sell immediately the better for their share price.

I've been to apple, AT&T and even walmart and no one has anything 16gb or 32gb, I've never had such a hard time finding a product, it's like apple is giving them away! My iPad was much easier to get, I walked right it, but with the iPhone, people are treating me like a pest! I WANT to give them $300 but no one wants to take it. I'm done with retail, the employees are rude, and this is just insane, it's just a phone. I'm just going to stick it out for my July 14th order.

Your ridiculous and a pest. The Iphone is not for you, never buy a Iphone in the future. I say stay away from anything because your not thinking clearly. I guess since the 90's you have not seen the crazies for beanie babies and last year zuzu pets. Demand and production go hand in hand.

If you don't have an iPhone you have no one to blame but yourself. I reserved mine for pick up and was at the store by 330 am and was out by 715 am. The non pre order line was very long but if you were willing to come early like after work the night before and waited you would have one. Now if you were not willing to do this then too bad now you have to call every store everyday an hope they have it in. No ones fault but your own.

Thx

Some people had preorder screens that got locked up and couldn't get one through.

Some people have jobs, thus preventing them from standing in line all day for a phone.

Some of us have lives.

Then go use your "lives" in a better way rather than wasting yours and our time by complaining on an Internet forum.

I think I had the easiest iPhone 4 purchase.

After buying my morning coffee at Pret on 17th and Broadway and walking to work, I accidently caught a salesperson unlock the door to the AT&T store at 9AM. I decided to walk in and check if they had anything in stock. I walk up to this really nice gentleman and ask if any iPhone 4s were in stock, he nods and says I'll hook you up with a 32GB version. I was in and out of the store in literally 5 minutes.

Basically the guy said the reason they had a few in stock is because certain people did not pick up their reserves iPhones on June 29th ... :)

Purchased my new iPhone 4 yesterday (now a national holiday:D:D) after 1:00 pm eastern at AT&T. Called ahead, said they had 14 32gig and no line. Got to store, walked in and 15 minutes later, walked out all set up and ready to load 20 gig of crap on to it!!! NOW just waiting for jailbreak and I will be back in total business.

Just for your info...AT&T only started selling them yesterday anyway...all other days were pre-order deliveries and no sales. So for me, I got it on AT&T's iDay!:D

My dad walked into the AT&T store yesterday after work and bought one. He said they had 10 and he was fifth in line. I pre-ordered mine and got it monday. Give it a week or so and you'll be able to buy one.
