Logitech MX Revolution

I love my MX Revolution, the MM never really did it for me.

Hey Luis,

I was going to buy a wireless MM today, but saw the MX revolution. How do you really like it? What do you hate about it? The button where your thumb would go (i think it's for documents), what exactly is it supposed to do? I am starting out in graphic design, do you think this mouse has any benefit?

I use my MM with a MBP and it's great as long as I don't use it for longer than a couple of hours. I guess the shell must start to retain a lot of heat from my hand cuz after a few hours of intense use, every click registers as a left click which is really annoying.

The person who stated that Microsoft should elevate its mouse designer to CEO is right. Microsoft makes terrible software, but great mice. I have tried Apple, Logitech and the best is Microsoft going away. Here is where Jobs has been too stubborn over the past 25 years: he is blind when it comes to mice.

My MM is starting to frustrate me too, mainly because of the ball constantly clogging. The thing I like about it is that it feels substantial and high quality. I recently tried an MX Revolution, but was disapppointed by how light and plasticky it felt in my hand.

TBH I'm not sure what mouse to try next, but the MM definitely has to go...

Would plugging the wireless USB dongle into a USB hub create any slowdown in response time?

I've gone through 3 MMs. It just seems that no matter what I do, they have a limited lifespan. They work and scroll great, and then after a while, they stop scrolling down and the only option is to open it up and clean it out. And they you have to glue the bottom piece back on...what a mess.

Glue the bottom piece back on? I guess I've been lucky.

The few times my MM's scroll thingy started acting goofy, all I had to do was put an alcohol wipe on my desk, turn my MM upside-down, and roll the scroll ball in a figure-8 on the alcohol wipe for a few seconds. Good as new afterwards!

Yeah, I went all the way to clean the scroll ball area. I found instructions to disassemble it, which isn't all that hard. I must be nuts to go through all this effort for a mouse. But the mouse world is a large and confusing one, and picking an alternative seems daunting.

I love the Wireless MM mouse (have 2 of them), but not all MM are created equal. The one I am currently using has no scroll issues (never had to clean it), double click works flawless, battery life is amazing, and scrolling is smooth & accurate. I've found that some other wireless MM that I've used in the past needed constant cleaning where the scroll bar wheel is to get it to function properly. Also, the double clicked worked only half the time.

The only gripe I have about the MM in general is that you have to lift your index finger if you want to use the double click feature.

Other than that, this mouse rocks!

The response time of the wireless MM is very late (even when set to full speed).
On the mac side its terrible ( response time wise).
But when I use bootcamp with vista ultimate the mouse is perfect in response like a wire mouse. I dont get why. Does anybody have the same issue? I have sent tons of complaints to apple about this on the apple feedback site. I advise others to do the same about the mighty mouse.

I too highly recommend the MX revolution!! MM was ok but the logitech just does the job with so much more style and grace! Definitely mac worthy!

A bit pricey but its got the texture ur looking for!!

That's a surprise to me. My response times are virtually zero on both my iMac and my wife's mini-Mac when running OSX 10.5.2.

In addition, I have Fusion 1.1 and Windows XP on my iMac, and the MM response time is virtually zero in Windows also.

Before buying the MM for my wife's mini-Mac she had a Logitech wireless, and the response time was terrible; that's why I bought the MM for her machine.

Have you tried different tracking & scrolling combinations in System Preferences?

When I originally tried the MM in the store, I loved it, so I ordered the wireless model with my Mac Pro. After 3 weeks of constant use, I started getting really irritated with how it operated for me.

The tracking speed is nowhere near what I was used to on the PC side, every 3rd or 4th time I would try to left click, it would give me the right click menu, and overall it just wasn't precise enough for me with the Photoshop work that I do. So I went back to what I'm used to - that being the Microsoft Laser Desktop for Mac (dubbed the same thing for the PC, but this keyboard has the apple-specific keys on it, and the mouse is the Wireless Laser Mouse 6000.)

After switching out both the mouse *and* alum keyboard (which was ok for the most part, but the keys were a little too close together for my liking), my productivity level has really shot up again.

If you have larger hands like I do, the MS Laser mouse 6000 really contours well for the right hand, unlike the MM.

Steermouse is an excellent application for use with the Mighty Mouse. Should sort out any button programming issues and also tracking speed.

I'm so close to digging out my old MS Explorer mouse and ditching the MM. The MM is very close to being a great product, but its reliability is just shocking and I'm fed up having to clean the scroll ball so often. It does feel like a quality mouse though in my hand, its just a shame that its so unreliable. I'm surprised Apple haven't revised it and fixed the problems yet tbh.

lugesm the scrolling response time is perfect. But just the movement is late.
I have the tracking set all the way and its still late. The scrolling is a little over halfway and its perfect.
But when I switch to windows its perfect on both. I dont get why.

Just a quick tip for those finding the mouse to lag, check "System Preferences -> Universal Access -> Mouse & Trackpad", note the "Initial Delay" gauge. I think this is to prevent cursor movements just in case the mouse is accidently moved. If you move it to the right the mouse needs to move further before the cursor registers the movement. Move it all the way to the left and see if it resolve the "lag" issue.

Hey,

I really love my MX Revolution. As for what the buttons do, they do exactly what you tell them, so you can customize them with whatever action you want, pretty handy if you ask me. I feel it is very precise and comfortable, definitely recommend it over the MM.
