If Apple is just oh-so-horrible, then you should

1. Return/sell all Apple products you own
2. Never buy Apple products again
3. Stop posting here

You knew how Apple works. You must have been aware of the product cycle. You knew that new products DO get released. If you don't like it, then you shouldn't have given big-bad-Apple your money. You buying the products anyways only encourages the current business model.

.. doesn't negate that I (and most other reasonable people) believe that type of practice to be unethical, unfair, etc. Who wants to unknowingly purchase a high end product, only to find out that product has been discontinued and that something else, of the same price - has taken its place, within a month?
Your view on this reveals youth, naivete and immaturity. Most adults realize that when you drive a new car off the lot, it instantly loses value. This is even more true with computer-related purchases. The fact that you think it's unfair is indicative of your lack of experience in the real world. Don't worry; you'll grow up one day and understand how all this works.
... I don't think your opinion matters, since I find it absurd.
My opinion only matters to me. Your opinion only matters to you. Whether you think something is absurd or not, doesn't make it so. The world, shocking though it may be, does not revolve around you.

Seriously, to the O.P, thats how business works and thats how life works... technology keeps getting updated everyday, and apple is a company, if you don't like what they do, don't buy from them! Apple has had that macbook pro out for 5 months, they don't care when you bought yours, they wanna update it so they did, and its just too bad you didn't wait, or fell within the 14 day range.. you knew what you were buying when you bought it, so you can't complain when a company decides to change something without announcing it first, apple wants to make money, if they told you they were updating they would have lost more customers and then lost money, which is bad for them.. please just get over it or call apple if you really want that upgrade

Look, you all are being a little schmucky to this guy. I mean, it sucks to have something updated right after you buy it. You all know it.

The thing is, he's not complaining about an CCFL to LED switch, or a double ram bump, or a new architecture. He's mad over 130mhz or .13ghz. An amount of clock speed he'll never notice, ever. Ever.

"This is really pissing me off, because I want to get one now, not wait for 3-4 weeks or longer. I'm thinking about getting the 15.4" model, waiting until they get the 17" in stock at the apple store, take the 15.4 " one back, to upgrade to the 17". Is that even an option, i mean, will they allow me to do that?"

"It would be nice to know WHEN I could get the new 17", since I'm a bit impatient and don't want to wait for another month."

He was WELL AWARE of how Apple works, he just couldn't wait any longer and regrets his decision. There is no excuse for his attitude here.

The problem is, you're wrong. I don't see that anyone has successfully challenged anything at all. By stating that Apple shouldn't announce that they plan to do something, and phase other products out, doesn't negate that I (and most other reasonable people) believe that type of practice to be unethical, unfair, etc. Who wants to unknowingly purchase a high end product, only to find out that product has been discontinued and that something else, of the same price - has taken its place, within a month? That certainly leaves a bitter taste in my mouth towards Apple, and I know others share the same feelings. You may not think that it matters, but then again, I don't think your opinion matters, since I find it absurd.

I'm telling you man, quite trying to fight people here, and start fighting apple. This is unfair, and like I said if, you were me, right now you would be waiting for your new laptop in the mail.

Even if apple did tell every one that they were going to upgrade in 30 days, not all sells would stop, people NEED to buy a laptop now, will simply, buy one now.

Again, 30 days? you have plenty of ground to stand on.

Hey OP why don't you backup your MBP, pack it, and take it to apple store. See if they can give you an exchange. If you keep your attitude like you do here I'm sure they'll offer you something.

I think he is talking about 15" to 15" not 15 to 17. I could be wrong, but good find on his post. I was on his side, but now, well..... you may proceed with the crucifixion.

You knew this when getting an Apple. This is how Apple has operated, it's no surprise, stop acting like this is now relevant just because it had affected you.

Don't act as if the product you bought deserves anymore attention than the iPod Touch little Curtis got for Christmas. Apple treats their products fairly for the most part. If upgrades happen, they happen!

Other have shared the same reasons and pain for years and years. Apple has been doing this since how long? At the end of the day people return for obvious reasons.

This is not just Apple, this is the same practices you see throughout the whole industry.

I understand, it doesn't feel good and it leaves a bitter taste. That's undeniable, and I'm sure many people would and do feel the same way. Just recognize that blaming Apple will not get you anywhere or any respect from people that actually understand the industry.

If it's under a month, call Apple and see what they can do and hope for the best. Just don't expect them to owe you anything because you bought an "upper end product."

Because you bout a MBP, it doesn't mean you deserve anymore or better treatment than someone who bought a Macbook or Mac Mini. That's not to say anything towards the MB or Mini, with are both great products in their own rights.

Hate the game, not the player.

Hi I'm new here so not sure how this place works, but I will post here anyway.

I bought an iMac in November 2007 - 20", 2Ghz, 1GB RAM, and a 250GB HDD.
I simply CANNOT believe that Apple did not bother to warn me that in a year and a half that they would offer a 20" with 2.66GHz, 2GB RAM and a 320GB HDD.

I think that this is appalling behaviour on Apple's part. If they want to make good business, they need to tell their customer's when to buy.

Should I go to the Apple Store tomorrow and see if I can swap it for the new one?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Is this a joke or a serious post?

I am not joking.

What is really bad about this update that the difference between the 15" and 17" is just the screen for $300  (I do not care about that 8GB RAM ability for now).

Yes it was a joke.

I feel like asking your same question to the OP.

Computers get updated. That's life.

"Back in the day", a 1GB HDD could set you back a few hundred dollars. For just over $200 dollars these days, you can get yourself 2000 times this capacity.

Do you think the owners are complaining because of the spec rise?

I know this is a little exaggerated but specs rise. It happens. You just have to live with it. I'm sure there are quite a few people who bought iMacs/Mac Minis/Mac Pros/MacBooks yesterday, only to see better products today. Tough.

im happy with my 2.53.
ive used it for 4months and it works great.
and i dont want a 2.66.
i like the 2.53 better because the numbers look nice. 2.53. its almost like 7.
2.93 is nice but not as much. 2.8 is also a nice number. 2.66 is an ugly number.

snowwhite and 2.53 elves.
nice.

I really don't think a 100mhz difference is worth bitching about. My god.

Agreed.
Was he complaining about it before this update? (okay well maybe he was but shouldn't have been)
Why is there an obsession with having the most top of the line computer all the time?
