I never use a case, i take good care of my iPhone. If anything happens, i talk to an Apple genius about it.

I love the combo of a thin case and Invisible Shield. And i just recently found the perfect case.. Pinlo Slice 3. Thinnest case on the market. Doesn't add much thickness at all, and offers protection from scratches, which is what I care most about. I've had it now for about a month, and no complaints at all.
This case looks nice ! How does it work with the back film protector on the phone ?

That's all good and nice, but how is an Apple genius gonna help you with a busted phone from dropping it? I mean, I've had them switch out a back plate on an iPhone4 before simply because of scratches, but that's about it.

There's no need for a back protector. The case is so tight on the phone, that there's not been any crap getting under the case and scratching up the phone. So I just use the Front Invisible Shield and it's been a perfect combo so far.

Only reason mine is in a case is because I work a construction job, and LOTS can happen to it besides just dropping it. Otterbox Defender is what its in 5 days a week, then weekends it can come out haha

I use a case for general protection at school. I don't want to shell out £179 or whatever it is for a broken screen.

ya.. a regular case isn't going to protect the phone from shattering. so in your case, unless you use an ottorbox (or something similar to it), then a drop with or without a case could possibly break the phone.

As for resale, check out eBay. I sold my 3GS in March for $180. It had a broken GPS, broken WiFi, a small scratch on front glass, and a crack in plastic on back. Better ones, unlocked were selling for $400! Why? Don't care. I use(d) a cheap $10 case from walmart. I have an iskin revo4 on my iPhone 4. The original revo kept my original iPhone scratch free for 2 years- so they're pretty good. I also like by backup $1.98 no name case from some place on ebay. $1.98 included shipping and people used to comment on how good it looked!

No screen protection. None needed. Just try to scratch the iPhone screen! I did get one small scratch on my 3GS after 2 years, but I must've had a diamond in my pocket. They really are hard to scratch. Just check out YouTube videos on the subject.

I use a rocketfish silicone bumper that protects the back and sides of my ip4.

It also gives me decent grip of this slippery when naked fone !!

Also stops the death grip.

Ive thought about the zagg full body shield but when I fixed one to my previous fone I got the orange peel look.

Also I'm not sure if the zagg shield for the metal antenna band would stop the signal drop the same as the silicone one I'm using at the moment.

I sometimes do that when I'm at Best Buy and there's an iP4 on display. I take the dock connector plug and test it out on the glass screen.

Same here, I do field work most of the time and Otterbox Defender is the way to go. It has already save my iP4 many times from regular drops. My Otterbox Defender has quite a few scuff marks on in, while my iP4 is still in mint condition.

When I'm not working, naked is the way to go.

There's no protection for the front screen with that case.

If you dropped it face down the phone would get scratched &/or damaged.

Any thin case needs to have a lip to prevent front damage IMO.

I have a case, it keeps my pristine looking and helps with the resale as well :)

Besides temporary use, I'll never understand cases.

People say "to prevent scratches", but if there's always a case on it, you'd never even know if there are scratches or not. Seems backwards. I can almost see if the phone got very scratched up andyou were tired of seeing them, so a case is these easiest answer.

The only time a case makes sense to me.. is rare times when you know you will be harder on the phone or have a much higher chance of dropping it. Like, if you're outdoors hiking, or tailgating. Things like that.

i was annoyed with the whole headphone jack not being big enough on cases so i went with a incipio feather.

I used an Otterbox Commuter on my iPhone 3Gs for about 6 months and then the little rubber headphone jack cover ripped off without warning so I sent a polite e-mail to Otterbox to see what they'd do for me and they Fed Ex'ed me another Commuter; for FREE. Got it 4 days later. I eventually broke the plastic on the case so I kinda mixed the plastic from the first case with the rubber from the second case and now have a complete Frankensteined Otterbox that is good for not, albeit the rubber ripping off where the headphone jack is, again.

Otterbox Commuter is good for drops but general wear and tear can take a huge toll.

I don't think I'll be buying one for my iPhone 4 simply because I've only dropped it like twice and that was when it slid off my lap onto the floor of my car. Nothing too serious. :D I find that I don't drop my phone so much now that it's not in a case.

Summer means more heat, more dirt and bigger pockets with more lint. All reasons to use an Otterbox Defender.
Otherwise, at school I was a huge fan of the SGP Neo Hybrid case. It's thin and it looks very nice. But I got a Cygnett that I'll try next semester.

Bottom line (for me) is a case at all times. As a student I can't afford to break it, and it gives you something else to spend money on :D
