I'm not naming my computers. I have had so many computers, they are used for a few years, then sold.
My guitars on the other hand have names, and I have no intention of selling any of my current guitars, ever :D

My current laptop is named "Clete2-Laptop" and I intend to name my MBP "Clete Blackwell II's MacBook Pro." My iPhone 3GS is named "Clete Blackwell II's iPhone 3GS."

I never own more than one laptop and one phone at a time, so I keep it simple. :)

I may just cut these down to "Clete's MacBook Pro" and "Clete's iPhone 3GS" in the future for shorter names. What good are names, anyways? They have no real practical use for me except when I'm in a home network and trying to find a computer. I use IP addresses 100x more than I use names. You can't say "nmap Clete's MacBook Pro," now can you?

I'm getting either a 13' or 15' Macbook Pro, and I'm planing to name her Beatrice.

I've been reading Dante's Divine Comedy, and i think a beautiful computer should get a beautiful name.

Beatrice is the great love of the Pilgrim in the epic poem.

Anyone else name their Macs? Or am i just weird?

Other names for random objects include my guitar named Othello (he's made of mahogany which is a dark wood) and i had a Dell named Icarus once... Cause it crashed so many times... Get it?

I was thinking of naming mine "Bad Boy Pro." I can't take credit for the name, though; I'm not that creative.

Habitus :apple:

See the little 'TM' in my sig? It's there for a reason.

In order for something to actually be trademarked, you have to register it here. You can't just throw a TM next to it and call dibs.

Maybe we should all call our MBPs BBPs.... I think my MBP is worthy of the name Super BBP, because it is an investment which I have super-futureproofed.

That would be a registered trademark. I believe some trademarks, such as names, do not have to be registered, but the name has to be widely known or attributed to something in order to qualify for protection. Of course, registering appears to make lawsuits move more quickly.

EDIT: Of course, in this case, nobody is going to think of MacRumors' member "shambo" if you say "Bad Boy Pro" to them. :D

Fair enough. However: Proprietary rights in relation to a trademark may be established through actual use in the marketplace, or through registration of the mark with the trademarks office (or "trademarks registry") of a particular jurisdiction.

There has been no actual use in the marketplace either.

:D

Plus, he has no claim on Super BBP.

Hahaha!
What did I say?
"A Shambo appeared!"

So? How's that funny? I predict that the next time Shambo posts you'll be along in double quick time to say something to the effect of "Piss off Shambo, no one likes you, you're stupid. God I hate you! GOD I hate you! I wish you would die because you're stupid and I hate you!", the same as you have for all his previous posts, regardless of their contents. However, I certainly won't be laughing.

My fileserver is called stankonia, my music player server is speakerboxxx, http/imap/smtp server is aquemini and my current laptop is atlien. When they announce new MBP's I'll buy either idlewild or southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. I haven't made up my mind yet.

And you'll be there to vigorously defend him for some reason.

No one has EVER typed anything like that about him. Don't exaggerate. Be fair now.

Oh and Spandexman/shambo, you're not allowed to have more than one member account here.

Definitely not Shambo :) Lots of people have have said he's stupid, at least one has said "no one likes you", and people have said variants of piss off many times. Admittedly no one has ever said they wish he'd die, that was an exaggeration on my part. I just don't like how people gang up on him whenever he says anything. You seem to tease him about future proofing in a reasonably light hearted manner, which seems reasonable, it's just when people are pointlessly aggressive I don't like it. I mean, be fair, he's toned it down a lot over the last couple of weeks, yet some people aren't giving him any slack.

Hahaha so true.
Plus, how was my previous "A shambo appeared!" comment anything vaguely offensive?
It's a parody of "A challenger appeared!", because shambo is indeed a challenge. ;)

It's a laptop. It doesn't get a name, except for the one that it came with from the factory. Name-giving implies attachment. I'll enjoy it until it outlives its usefulness, at which point I'll sell it on ebay like the other stuff I got tired of.

Cutesy names don't make computer run any faster.

That said, if you own something and you want to call it Beatrice or Bad Boy Pro or Bozo the Clown, that's you're prerogative.

While I don't name my computers, I sometimes do dress them in outfits I sew myself. Right now MBP is wearing a frilly little pink chiffon number I whipped up last weekend.

From Waiting for Godot, Act I

Waiting for Godot was awful. I realize it is a philosophical work, but man.. it was annoying.

If I were a holy man, I would pray that this were true :) That has made my night :D

Of course it's true. I'd post a picture, but MBP thinks that cameras are soul-stealers. It also wrote me a note in TextEdit saying it would like to be named "Bob's Big Boy". I wrote back that I do not name my computers. It then responded "well then why is the server named 'tera'?" I responded, "because 'server' was already in use on the network and because it has 24 of them". MBP didn't buy it and is now called Bob's Big Boy, even though the restaurants are just called "Big Boy" now.

It's a very tricky play to pull off. If it's done correctly, you don't even realize you're watching a play in which 'nothing happens twice'. But if it's done incorrectly it can make you want to tear your eyes out.

+1 vote. Actors can read (or they should) - they should be able to spell too!

I'm flattered you took the time to look at my profile to find out I'm an Actor. But don't the forum rules frown upon those who make jest of spelling mistakes? Jeez.
