It sounds to me like Apple is handling this very well. Obviously there was a mistake on their website after the keynote, but it was mentioned in the keynote itself and on the actual product page on Apple.com that ONLY the 2.4Ghz model would have the backlit keyboard. I really think there are a lot of people here that knew this, and ordered the lower model anyway hoping they could complain their way into the better model for free (not accusing the OP).

I would of done that.

Teach Apple that careless mistakes are not acceptable.

Well that was nice of apple to give you some credit.

I had noticed yesterday that there were some places that said it had backlit keyboard, and the main page said it didn't.

I do agree, however, that if you are making a $1299 purchase or more, (online especially) maybe you could spend more time researching before you buy.

Maybe I will call and make a fuss, and apple will give me something too?;)

"I didn't know there was no firewire...I demand that you give me a million dollars!"
:D

I get your point, I've bought many things online before and I always research, compare but the product was just being release, my most reliable source at the time was apple.ca.. For the firewire they shouldn't have problems cuz they made no mistake.. I admit some people might try to get free stuff out of apple, but I really didnt notice until this morning the mistake that had been made.

BTW I notice your name is Mathieu, just like me, where are you from? Parle tu le francais?

My last name is Mathieu. :D
My husband is Lebonese, and his great-grandfather changed his last name into a French last name when he moved to the U.S.

I'm just a boring American mutt.:p

I am really gutted they don't even have the backlit keyboard as an option on the 2.0ghz as I cannot justify the extra expense for the higher model. Its only gonna be used as a sofa surfer as my iMac is still my main computer, but one of the things I was really looking forward to was the backlit keys

So while we're somewhat on the subject...:D
Is it possible to turn off the backlit light?
I can imagine it being a nuisance while watching a movie etc.

Me too.. :(

This sucks, but it's not that big of a deal. Keyboard backlighting is not a right, just a fancy little feature.

What?

This still doesn't make sense to me. Probably Apple is using left-over Black MacBook keyboards until they get rid of them all. Then on the next MacBook revision put the backlit one in.

Maybe if Apple was smart enough, they'd put the Firewire port back in as well...

Everything apple sells is virtually above average in terms of price. But keyboard backlighting is very cool once you see how useful it is. You don't use it every day, but when you need it, you wish you had it.

Did the blackbook use chicklet keys?

I touch-type, I never look at the keyboard ...

Sounds like you didn't do any homework, made a mistake and now are profiting from it under the guise of poor customer service and misinformation. It is people that take your approach that make me sick to my stomach. A few years ago you could call a company with a legitimate customer service complaint and it would get taken care of. Now everyone is trying to rip the companies off, get things for free, etc. that it give the consumer a bad rap and customer service reps are generally less apt to help those with real problems. Thanks for making it worse.

I would have called Apple, changed the order to the backlit model and not expected or requested any sort of compensation or discount, just been glad that I was able to correct my mistake.

Did you miss the part where the apple website mistakenly listed all the MBs as having backlit keys for a while, thereby making it Apple's mistake, or are you just a jerk?

Did you read the whole thread? The Apple Store web page said he would be getting a backlit keyboard. Yes, he has a right to be upset if he doesn't get the computer that Apple's own website said he would be getting.
