I don't know how drivers act in Toronto, but in the other Canadian cities I've been to they've been super polite. Kiss that goodbye when you move to LA, or anywhere in the states for that matter!

Toronto drivers are, basically, pretty stupid:
-They don't signal when they lane-change,
-When they want to make a left, and there is no left turn lane, they wait until the last second when they slow down to put their signal on, instead of doing it in advance so you can switch to the right lane,
-the cabs here are a bunch of ******s,
-drivers run red lights,
-during rush hour, drivers block intersections even if they aren't able to go forward because of traffic. Then the light changes, and the other drivers are blocked by these morons. Why can't they just wait until there is space to move through the intersection?
-I live downtown, and drivers don't realize that pedestrians have the right of way when walking across the street,
-people don't check their blind spot enough before they switch lanes. I can't even tell you how many times I've almost been sideswiped,
-people don't know how to parallel park,
-drivers don't respect cyclists,
-if someone almost misses a turn, they'll block traffic to try to move over so they can make the turn instead of continuing on and turning around.
-on the highways, people don't realize that the left-most lane is the fast lane, and they don't understand to get out of the way if you want to pass them.

Driving in Toronto can be very frustrating. I think I'm ready for LA drivers. I don't mind aggressive drivers, but I can't stand (can't-stands-ya) stupid drivers.

Now in Montreal, drivers aren't stupid, but they are super aggressive. I like driving there.

OMG! I love LA! Make sure you go to the Griddle for sure! 7916 Sunset Blvd! It's a must.

I'll check it out. Thanks:)

Just a quick update to everyone that posted advice for me in this thread.

We moved to Los Angeles in the middle of February, and we've been here 7 weeks now.

We found a place right in Westwood, and we're loving the location. Westwood Village has everything, and it's fantastic that I don't need to drive to go grocery shopping, go to a movie, a restaurant, coffee shop, the gym, pretty much anything.

In the Village: Jerry's Deli is great for Matzo Ball Soup (it's big enough to be your meal) and Chocolate Fudge Cake (ask them to warm it up), and Ami Sushi is very good. Stan's Donuts......mmmmmmm. Here's a great site for Westwood Village if anyone is interested. For a good coffee and a great view, hang out on the patio of The Coffee Bean (see the first pic below for the view).

We've been to a few places that have been recommended in this thread.

We went to Fat Fish a few weeks ago, and then to Yoshi's last night. This morning, I reviewed this thread, and saw that BiTurboMunkie recommended them both. So thanks. We liked Fat Fish more than Yoshi's. (We actually found them independent from this thread, and then I saw that they were recommended here too). We're going to look into Shamshiri soon.

We've been to Venice, Santa Monica Pier, 3rd street promenade, Urth Cafe on Beverly, Sunset, The Grove (where I got my iPhone :D) and Farmer's Market, Beverly Center, and Century City Promenade. There's so much to do in this city.

We went to Sherman Oaks to check out the Valley, but we weren't too impressed with what we saw. It was nice and all, but not our thing. We'll probably end up living in West LA for good.

In case anyone else is using this as a suggestion guide, I recommend Runyon Canyon. It's a great place for hiking and dog watching, and it's minutes from Hollywood. I attached a pic of it below (second pic) as well.

So now I'm hoping for some recommendations for some cool lounges and bars. Somewhere happening, but a place that we won't have to wait in line for 45 minutes just to have the privilege of spending money there. I hear that all the cool places are hidden and hard to find. Keep in mind we're married and in our early 30's. Oh, and somewhere that doesn't cost $30 for a martini. In Toronto, we knew where to go, but because we're new here, it's really hard to get a feel for where the happening places are to go.

Thanks again.....

Oh, we're off to the Getty this afternoon....

Los Angeles California is a Dynamic place to be and live!

I'm sorry you have been receiving so many bazaar responses about a simple question, but an opinionated one. I currently reside in Charlotte NC, but I've lived in Los Angeles for many years and I also went to school there. LA is a fantastic place to be and live. The area that you are thinking of relocating to in LA is dynamic and very fun. I lived on Little Santa Monica which a mile west of the 405 and loved it. That area is a great location if you want close access to the freeway. Not only is the weather the best, LA has soooo much to do and so much to offer. What state has the beach, mountains, and snow all in one? I can't think of another. You and your wife should enjoy this place and have fun. Don't let negative people infuence your decision! If you and your wife like it and it's in your heart to move, then go for it. What do you have to loose. You only live once! And fyi, who ever said that LA is humid must has the dryest personality of all times that's why LA must have seem humid to you! Good luck with your drive and your move.

Lookit what got dug up:D

Hmmmm.... now that I've re-read the thread today, I've changed my mind..... time to move back to Toronto!

I've lived in LA for 2 years now, and I love it here. Nothing like being able to wear sunglasses, shorts and a t-shirt on a January 15th!

I live in NC and I wore shirt, shorts, sunglasses, and shoes without socks today. :)

Don't move here. It smells bad, you'll be mugged at least twice a day, the women are ugly, and earthquakes will force you to rebuild every other year.

Thank you.

What are "socks"?

Are you even aware of what shoes are? Or clothing at all, for that matter? :p

Dude
My advice to you is route for the Duck's or King's not the Leaf's;)

Peace

lol

I'm a Leafs fan for life, but I've slowly become a Kings fan. However, when the Leafs play the Kings, I root for the Leafs.

I see people in Leafs paraphernalia around LA almost once a week..... so there's a bunch of us here.....waiting.......watching.......

The Ducks? No thank you.:D

BTW, just to add a new favorite place to the thread:

Susiecakes (in Brentwood) is the BEST dessert place I've ever been to. The Red Velvet cake is sooooooooooo good- best I've ever had. The whoopie pies (on the right, two chocolate cookies with butter creme filling) are awesome too.
