Just a quick update to everyone that posted advice for me in this thread.
We moved to Los Angeles in the middle of February, and we've been here 7 weeks now.
We found a place right in Westwood, and we're loving the location. Westwood Village has everything, and it's fantastic that I don't need to drive to go grocery shopping, go to a movie, a restaurant, coffee shop, the gym, pretty much anything.
In the Village: Jerry's Deli is great for Matzo Ball Soup (it's big enough to be your meal) and Chocolate Fudge Cake (ask them to warm it up), and Ami Sushi is very good. Stan's Donuts......mmmmmmm. Here's a great site for
Westwood Village if anyone is interested. For a good coffee and a great view, hang out on the patio of The Coffee Bean (see the first pic below for the view).
We've been to a few places that have been recommended in this thread.
We went to Fat Fish a few weeks ago, and then to Yoshi's last night. This morning, I reviewed this thread, and saw that
BiTurboMunkie recommended them both. So thanks. We liked Fat Fish more than Yoshi's. (We actually found them independent from this thread, and then I saw that they were recommended here too). We're going to look into Shamshiri soon.
We've been to Venice, Santa Monica Pier, 3rd street promenade, Urth Cafe on Beverly, Sunset, The Grove (where I got my iPhone

) and Farmer's Market, Beverly Center, and Century City Promenade. There's so much to do in this city.
We went to Sherman Oaks to check out the Valley, but we weren't too impressed with what we saw. It was nice and all, but not our thing. We'll probably end up living in West LA for good.
In case anyone else is using this as a suggestion guide, I recommend Runyon Canyon. It's a great place for hiking and dog watching, and it's minutes from Hollywood. I attached a pic of it below (second pic) as well.
So now I'm hoping for some recommendations for some cool lounges and bars. Somewhere happening, but a place that we won't have to wait in line for 45 minutes just to have the privilege of spending money there. I hear that all the cool places are hidden and hard to find. Keep in mind we're married and in our early 30's. Oh, and somewhere that doesn't cost $30 for a martini. In Toronto, we knew where to go, but because we're new here, it's really hard to get a feel for where the happening places are to go.
Thanks again.....
Oh, we're off to the Getty this afternoon....
