When I moved here, I used (redacted) and they lost, stole, and broke all of my stuff. And they hit my car with their moving truck.

+1 on Apple Pan. I live around 10 minutes from there.

The Counter is still my favorite for burgers.

Just seeing this post has made me start salivating. I could really go for a Steak Burger, fries, a cream soda, and a piece of apple pie a la mode. Man, I love ApplePan.

Haven't been to The Counter, I'll have to give that a shot next time I'm in the area.

Surely, if you haven't been to the LA County Museum of Art, I totally recomend it. IT's right down the street from you, on Wilshire. I LOVE LACMA! I used to work there and still visit often. The Getty Center and Villa are nice too.

It's a chain, so there might be one near you. Google it...

Thanks! It's on the list.....so many places to still go. That's why I like living here... There's always something to do or somewhere to go.

Indeed! I'll have to give it a try sooner rather than latter.

And I second the Getty Villa and Getty Center. Really cool and really cheap.

I've been to the Getty Center a couple of times. It's a really awesome place. I third it.:p

Life has just started to get extremely busy, so it might take some time for me to get to some of the places I'd like to visit.

If you are into museums, there is one in Pasadena, near Old Town, called Norton Simon museum. It is a small one, but quite a few paintings from very famous artists. I did not know that Picasso sculpted until I went there. They have a nice garden as well. You can hang out at Old Town at night after leaving the museum.

LA. It's a game of Sim-City that frankly, should be scrapped and started again. Mother nature doesn't like it. Every now and again it tries to rattle all the people into the Pacific ocean. If that doesn't work - burn the hills to smoke them out. If that doesn't work, the resultant movement of deer down to the suburbs means the Mountain Lions start prowling around. And bears. The traffic is dreadful. The freeways are horrendous.

And I love it. I utterly love it.

I've been offered a dream job over there, and I just got back from a house hunting trip which was my third LA visit in just over a year and I've signed a lease on a tiny 3 bed place in Pasadena ( 91104 )

Visa is due in the next week or two, then off I go. Good by England :)

I have more friends over there than over here anyway. And I learnt something funny but true there in January. EVERYTHING is in LA. Whatever you want to do, see, get.. it's ALL there. But ALL of it, is exactly 45 minutes from EVERYTHING else.

And for those that bemoan LAX.... it's a dream to visit compared to LHR. Seriously. And where else does your United 777 get to race Air-France 777's on approach with Downtown and the Hollywood sign as a backdrop. :)

Where I live, everything is exactly 20 minutes away from everything else.:D

Welcome..... If you have any questions before or after you move here, ask away here, or feel free to PM me.

There is more art than you can see in just one day. :)

Also, you may enjoy LACMA's Friday Night Jazz. It's a free weekly outdoor event. Drinks are served too. Hot chicks all over. Damn fun. ((check their schedule cause it's not year round, but it's on now))
*nothing like listening to "Take Five" at LACMA*

Hell YES!

The perfect Friday evening? I think so.

I'll just have to leave the 'hot chicks' part out when I tell my wife about it.:D

I think you're absolutely crazy! I find LA to be disgusting and an utter pain in the ass. Its impossible to get around, you essentially have to use a car, and everything takes 45 minutes to get to because traffic is always so bad. But, there is definitely a lot to do, that is a major plus. But then again, after spending my whole life in the LA area, I'm about ready try something else.

Congrats! Pasadena is nice, good choice! Should be a decent place to live; lots of stuff to do in Pasadena itself, plus its nice and close to the actual city.

Yeah, I don't know. I don't think LAX is that bad, never really understood the grumbling about it. Its somewhat busy, but there are definitely worse airports out there.

Yes, this sounds like something I'll have to check out at some point in the near future. :D

I really like LA. I don't find it "disgusting and an utter pain in the ass". It must be because you've lived here your whole life.

Yeah, I've never had a problem going through LAX......

That's probably it. Living outside of the greater Los Angeles area would probably make me appreciate some of the things LA and the surrounding areas offer a lot more, but it would probably also make me realize how bad the traffic actually is too, haha. For the most part, I think LA is just really ugly, but I guess the grass always seems greener on the other side. I anticipate moving out of the LA area in the next few years, so I suppose I'll realize my true feelings about LA, good or bad, at that time.

The traffic is dreadful - but - as long as you're not right in downtown, decamping to surface streets works a treat. My newly acquired TomTom did an awesome job of skipping me around the worst traffic whilst house hunting.

In those last shots, is that the aurora borealis from your plane? (If so) how cool!

I'm a relocated (and often very homesick) Los Angeles native. It's a pain in the ass but there are a lot of good things that really grow on you about L.A. Best of luck out there, djellison!

This is why I can't live in LA:

Sister's ex boyfriend when they were living there - spider ate a chunk of his back. Wolf Spider I think you call it. She had to use something called Fogger all the time to keep them out of her apartment.

I'm terrified of spiders, so if you're like me I'd stay well away. Everyone else seems to love LA though. Sister thinks it's the nicest place in the world.

Yup - the timing of my return flight was specifically so it was overnight in NE Canada and Greenland, and I booked a seat on the left ('north') side of the plane. Then crossed my fingers. :) When there was a 6/10 forecast before I took off I was fairly confident. Next time - I'm taking my DSLR.

Oh that's awesome! And hey, you missed the quake but got the aurora!
