Said it before, only iPhones I'm actually interested in keeping for a collection are -
iPhone (2007)
iPhone SE (2016)
iPhone X (2017)
My SE will won't be lonely and feel more complete with the X at the end. The rest are filler, evolutionary baby steps, or simply hated their design.
Best Design
1. 5s
2. SE
3. 5
4. 2G
5. 4s
6. 4
7. X (moving up?)
8. 7 (matte 4.7", Plus is better but uglier)
9. 8 (moves down)
10. 6s
11. 6
12. 3Gs
13. 3G
14. 5c
I did prefer the 4/4s higher than the 2G and 5 at some point but I don't like glass rears. Og iPhone was also more comfortable to hold and loved that chrome bezel band around it.
Impact / Influence / Legacy
1. 2G (Like Star Wars '77, flawed but revolutionary)
2. 4 (1st redesign, Facetime, last SJ showed)
3. X (1st redesign on front ever, anniversary)
4. 6 Plus (helped push to 100M sales)
5. 5s (1st for Touch ID)
6. 4s (1st w/ dual core)
7. 5 (birth of the best design)
8. 7 Plus (1st w/ dual speakers, TP, & swim)
9. 8 Plus (1st for wireless/fast charging)
10. 6s/6s Plus (Force Touch, 2GB RAM)
10. SE (5s + 6s but no huge jump)
12. 6/7/8 (4.7", made smaller twin inferior)
13. 3G/3Gs (forgettable)
14. 5c (ugliest & most forgettable)
Watch the intro videos for iPhone 4 and 5. Those were two of the best. By the time we got to 6, they all bore me including the X. The iPhone design peaked in 2013 and iOS peaked in 2012 with iOS6.
Why is the SE so low in legacy? Because it built its legacy on the back of the 5/5s and is simply a budget iPhone for countries like India. But is it the best iPhone inside/out? Hell yes. Best value ever from Apple.
Verizon has 5s for $180 prepaid and AT&T has SE for $150 prepaid at Best Buy. Even without the polished chamfered edges, you pick SE every time. Old school (5-series) & new school (6s internals) remixed.
I used to watch the iPhone 4 intro on my 4 like hundreds of times. I never owned the 5. But I believe the 5 and 4 intros are the best Apple has ever made. Just hasn't felt the same after iOS6 or when iPhone 6 was introduced.
