Sony was in that position in the 80's and look what happened to them, they threw it all away so don't rule out apple going the same right, and eh microsoft did it too.
Very true, sooner or later the golden goose goes elsewhere...
 
The Apple Watch should have a Fitness mode to compete with the Fitbit. a mode that would prolong the battery life and turn off all the extra making the watch just a fitness watch. I really do like like consistent heart rate monitoring of the Fitbit Charger all in a tiny device half the size of the Apple Watch

Well, I suspect the fitness tracking part is the one which consumes most energy. Consistently monitoring your heart beat rate requires consistently lighting up of the green LED and the 'camera' which detects pulses.
