My turn on the soap box......

If you buy something on impulse buying or even if you did 4 weeks of research before deciding to purchase something, you decided to purchase it. It must have been the right deal at the right time for you. Don't worry about what the other guy is getting for a deal, now, yesterday or next week. Live with the fact that there was a point in time that you felt right about purchasing what you did, when you did. There is no one to blame, even yourself. You may be disappointed that you could have waited two weeks, but what if Apple didn't upgrade the MacBook line, would you have been equally disappointed that you waited for nothing?

Oh damn...

The whitebook I purchased two sundays ago all of a sudden stopped working perfectly right after the WWDC mention of the new macbooks. I remember I was on it, watching MR's live update of the conference, it was working fine and fit exactly my needs, then BLAMMO. Kaput. Zip. Zilch. (X_X). Just like that.

SO PISSED!!

I dont really mind its just the principal of it really, they should just suddenly release a cheaper better model, i suppose im just really annoyed about that and the fact I got ripped off.

What principle? When a company updates a product, someone's got to be pissed off, and this time, that customer is you. Should Apple not update just because you bought a MacBook recently?

I can understand why you're a bit disappointed, but if you're actually blaming Apple for this, you're being ridiculous.

What?

Well its .26 better processor.
It supports up to 8 GB ram.
And its called MacBook Pro rather than just MacBook
And its about £30 cheaper.

Ripped off? Really? Welcome to the world of technology when there will always be something newer, faster and better.

Return yours and get the new one. OR do you homework a bit better next time and don't purchase a Mac computer before a large conference where they usually introduce...new computers.

Somebody knew if they would reduce their price tags before the WWDC? no one!!! I knew for sure they are going to release a newer version of the Macbook Pro, but I thought they still keep the $1999, $2499 and $2799 price tags, like they always did. That's the price of Apple's pro laptop for a long time. I've been Apple users for 10 years and they barely ever changed their base price on their pro laptop product line, even with their legacy PowerBooks.

It maybe good for new customers who want to switch to Mac, but for their current loyal customer, this is definitely a rip off.

dude, these people miraculously appear here to whinge. did they not know to come here and READ the chatter before then?
.....

Exactly. Those people should grow some balls and either keep it (nothing wrong with what you bought), or return it and take a hit on restocking charge.

That's not true, and this is going back to the PowerBooks as well. Prices changed after updates rather frequently.

And how do loyal Apple customers who are interested in buying a new laptop soon feel about this? Probably very good as well.

You're complaining about a price drop. It's funny.

You have to pull the trigger sometime. I really am not upset that I have a unibody macbook, it does what I need and that's all I care about.

If you are on MacRumors, then you would know to hold off until after WWDC!!!!

If I was going to buy a brand new one then I would wait. But for the price of the refurb Macbook Pro at $1899 for 512Mb 9600GT and 4Gb of RAM, I couldn't help it. Never thought new ones would come down this low. I only had mine for like 6 days.

The main difference I can see that would affect you is that the new model includes a backlit keyboard, whereas yours does not.

I think a 7 hour battery life and an improved screen beyond even the preJune 15"MBPs are a couple of features that EVERYONE can use.

Firewire and SD slot can become useful.

They did keep prices the same!
The $1699 MBP really is just a 15" mb. It really isn't a 'pro' it has integrated graphics, pro's need discrete :D

It is always fascinating that people can instantly locate these forums to gripe about Apple blindsiding them with an update... like Apple did it personally to them, just watching, waiting, and biding their time till user XXX buys... but they can't seem to locate these forums before they buy and notice that everyone is holding their breath waiting on an update.

Life is full of extremes... some are pissed because they bought the day before the update... clueless one was coming, while others have been here for the past 3 months saying "should I buy or should I wait?!? What to do, what to do!!"

Woof, Woof - Dawg

It is amazing how quickly they find the site after they buy. LOL
Seriously, when you are about to spend a couple grand, shouldn't you do a little research?

How should they release it "slowly" instead of suddenly? Maybe they release the SD slots one week and next week Firewire, then it is time for a faster CPU and two weeks later a bigger hard drive. :)

Hi, i just went on the apple uk website and I Found that a new range of macbook pro have been released.

I purchased my mackbook for about £930 about 2 weeks ago. Now a cheaper better processor version macbook pro comes out that is exactly the same size of my macbook.

This is very unfair. If the apple shop had told me that in 2 weeks the same size mac would come out, it would be a better processor, cheaper and called a pro....then I would have waited and brought that.

My mac MacBook
- OS X 10.5.7
- 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- @ GB 1067 MHZ DDR3
-approx £930

The new back MacBook Pro
-OS X
-2.26 GHZ
- 2GB ram
-£899

DO you see my point, has anyone been annoyed by this?

How did you ever navigate through this forum and not click on a link telling you to wait until WWDC? There was a friggin thread per day about it.

It maybe good for new customers who want to switch to Mac, but for their current loyal customer, this is definitely a rip off.

How is the money of a loyal customer any different than a new user's? Money is money. Sorry, Apple is a corporation - they really don't care about you. Apple can do whatever they want with their prices. Would you have felt better if they increased them?

Sorry dude. This is life. Tomorrow milk might be cheaper. But you still can drink the one from today and same you can use your new computer. It will last you a few years eventually, unlike milk.

It does suck, but correct me if I'm wrong, Apple does not historically updates the Mac's at WWDC. I don't think (without searching this board) that anyone really thought that the entire laptop line would be refreshed after just a few months.

In any event, it does kind of suck when you blow a bunch of $$$ only to see the price go down shortly after with new features included.

suddenly? it had been out for 8 months, you bought an outdated mac, why didn't you listen to the rumors and advices on this forum?
it's not so much better than yours but it is better, happens with all updates. what if you had waited 2 more weeks, would you have preferred it to be almost identical to the old model? Stop being selfish!
Both Apple and customers gain out of updates, so cheer up!

ok, i didn't read the rest of this thread so this may have already been brought up but 95% of the advice on this forum said there was no chance there would be a macbook hardware update at the World Wide DEVELOPERS conference. I understand what your argument is (the OP should have waited to buy with an apple event 2 weeks away) but its foundations are weak.

OK I have a real question about this instead of jumping on someone who didn't wait to buy.

My sister did in fact get a new computer 10 days ago- she needed it- and couldn't wait.

I know there is a 14 day exchange here in the US and Apple is always good about this when an updated computer comes out- but the receipt also says there is a restocking fee. Is this true for exchanging when a new version comes out?

Or will it all depend on who she gets at the Apple store?

I guess the big question is-how does Apple actually deal with exchanging old computers for upgraded computers in that 14 day window?

Thanks for any help or insight.

Without knowing the model she bought....she would probably be about even with the restocking fee and price drop. I'd return it for all the extras she'd be getting.

well, it seems simple. Apple hosed you, just you though.

Return it if within your 14-day return period.

Those who do not care, look for some awesomely perfect refubs soon. :p

but they can't get off their lazy asses to check out the buyers guide or know when things are overdue (or due) for an upgrade. geez.

it's called progress and it aint anything new. wise up and stop whining. take some responsibility for your ecomonics.

maybe someone can create a whinge thread so these people can vent without the rest of us having to put up with them...

PS. don't buy a new ipod in august. i don't want to hear how unfair the world is when september rolls around and you realise you've been "ripped orf".

PPS. just wanted to say i'm really unhappy and suddenly feel the need to be compensated for the $100 I paid in 1988 when i upgraded my Amiga500 with a whacking great 512kb of extra memory or the $400 i paid for a whole 400MB hard drive...

Someone like you really doesn't help and would be better off watching the television instead of saying something useless.

Anyway thanks to the people that do understand including immemorial. I did do research, in fact i spent month trying to decide whether to wait to buy the new windows 7, windows being what i'm used to or buy a Mac which I have never used before. Because of the fact im not used to buying Macs im not used to having to time it around events.

Sorry she got the $1200 Macbook 13" aluminum. Doesn't look like there was a price change on that one- and not sure if there was a big enough jump in the processor to warrant paying the restocking fee to upgrade the computer.
