95% of the advice on this forum said there was no chance there would be a macbook hardware update at the World Wide DEVELOPERS conference.

That "95% of advice" you're talking about...

https://forums.macrumors.com/members/80192/

It all came from the same person. He just went into every buying advice thread and advised people to buy now because he was sure that there was a 0% chance of an update at WWDC.

Most of us knew there was going to be an update. The average time between updates is 6 months and it had been 8 months already. It was just common sense.

Ive just had a look and i purchased my mac on 26th may anyway so its too late to return it now.

Also lit up keyboard is not the only upgrade.
Enhanced battery life, better processor, more supported ram, and the name pro makes it all better.

An yes i could have waited 2 weeks easily, i didn't about it so much and until a few days ago i didn't even know about this forum.

Instead of saying nothing constructive why cant we have a proper conversation, some of you are sounding like children.

Oh, get off your high horse. Not everyone likes to read the rumour sites as religiously as others. Some people want to buy a computer, so they see one online or in the store and they buy it. So then when Apple decides to drop the price $300 and release an update the very next day, I can understand why those people would be upset.

Nevermind the fact that even if you did read the sites, there's still never a reasonable consensus on what will happen. Like I stated in another thread, Apple's overzealous policy of secrecy on new products ends up screwing these people who thought they were getting the latest.

But doesn't it make sense that if you can find the time to come here and create a post about how "Apple ripped you off" that you may have taken the time to do some research into when new products may be released?

This happens in the PC world all the time! With all of the PC manufactures, 3rd party vendors, and unlimited numbers of end-point dealers you are bound to open the newspaper the day after you make a new purchase and see a better deal. Most people assume that since Apple has only a small number of notebooks in its line that it is not entitled to release new products that BENEFIT their customers?

Well I asked the sales assistant and he told me that the version of macbook that i brought was a 2 month old model, so naturally i assumed that there wouldn't be another one released after such a short period of time.

Ok, I get it. You created this thread hoping people would support you and say that they were annoyed by the update too. But the vast majority of replies didn't say that, so you don't think it's a "proper" conversation. You already had your mind made up on what kind of replies you wanted.

edit: And there are a ton of constructive replies. They all told you to consult the forum or the buyers guide. It doesn't help your current situation but it'll help you in the future.

I feel like it is just common sense not to make purchases unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY around media event time in the Apple world. Even if it is a developers conference, it makes an excellent time for them to make a big deal about it while garnering a large audience with the keynote.

The assistant lied. The UMB came out 8 months ago.

well when buying an apple product in the future i am going to make sure that its not around an event and i will be doing a lot more research into it.

I have a few more questions on upgrading my current mac.

At the moment I can upgrade to 4GB ram, with the new OS 10.6, will it be able to support up to 8GB. And also will I be able to upgrade the processor?

Thanks

..and in any case, know what you actually need and if it is good enough for your purpose, be happy.

Unlike certain M$ products the current and upcoming OSX does not limit you to 4GB of RAM. It is a, if at all, a marketing or architecture limit. In former cases, owners were able to extend the limit when adequate 3rd party RAM modules became available.

And also will I be able to upgrade the processor?
Thanks

Usually, no. But there have been exceptions.

mmulin you are totally right and yes I am happy with what i have...

Like someone else said i still have a great computer with the most advanced operating system.

They may not normally update Macs at WWDC but...

It does suck, but correct me if I'm wrong, Apple does not historically updates the Mac's at WWDC. I don't think (without searching this board) that anyone really thought that the entire laptop line would be refreshed after just a few months.

In any event, it does kind of suck when you blow a bunch of $$$ only to see the price go down shortly after with new features included.

they also are taking a lot of flack from Microsoft in their ad attack about the "Apple Tax" so now is definately the time, if ever there was a time, for Apple to reduce their prices. That and a little thing called Global Economic Meltdown...

Welcome to the new economy where the rules have all suddenly changed.

Hahaha

..., some of you are sounding like children.

the grown ups are voicing their contempt of people whinging. nothing personal, you're not the first person here to whinge. maybe your post was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

i hope you still manage to enjoy your new toy. they are awesome machines. next time you choose to buy, make sure you come in here and ask for some advice. most people are friendly and willing to help you out with facts or rumours. it's up to you who you listen to and how you act.

but don't buy an ipod now! don't want you disappointed again when september rolls around...

I saw the word "government" in the post above me..so I am frightened.

1. This thread is somewhat pointless, see the bijilion other threads
2. Read the Buyer's Guide
3. Post on here before you make a purchase, most people, even non-Apple people, have been hearing a new iPhone in June, put two and two together, wait until after WWDC
4. See what the posters above, you have fourteen days
5. Enjoy your new computer, remember, just because there is a new one does not mean yours got worse...

Well good news- Apple ended up not only exchanging my sisters 13" Mac Book (With no restocking fee) for a new 13" Macbook Pro without a problem but also gave her $150 back as the computer is now $1199 instead of $1299 and they are giving $100 back rfor educators discount instead of $50.

And this is why people love Apple.

If you have the unibody macbook you are limited to 4GB of RAM (unofficially 6GB*), I highly doubt this will change just with Snow Leopard seeing as all the rest of the new pros can support 8GB running leopard. As others have stated on other threads it has to be something with firmware, which would be nice if Apple was to release an update to let us run 8GB.

*there's a thread on here where someone tried 8GB and it crashed once reaching a certain amount of memory usage.

problem solved

hey, i was in the same situation. recieved my macbook pro the day after new versions were released. was pissed off. so i called them up as soon as i could and the lady who picked up the phone, said it was fine and that for people who received their macbooks after the new ones have come out can return it back to them. So they organized a pick up (paid by them) and gonna refund the full price back. Gonna use the money to buy the new macbook pro :D so happy. Mac has been very good to me. Thanks mac!

p.s. MBP i ordered was 15inch 2.6ghz with harddrive upgrade. They said it didn't' matter that it was custom configured.
