I have a question for current ipad owners. Do those who bought wifi only models regret it? I think i am going to buy a unlocked mifi modem and use that with a wifi only model, if that is what they will offer for the ipad 2.

Bought the 3G, have never used it. When I don't have wifi, my iPhone suffices. My next iPad will be wifi only (and pray for tethering).

the Mac App Store is out now with all the same cool apps (little pricey though still)

It doesn't have all the same apps. A few have been ported (for example, Angry Birds) - but it isn't every iOS app on OS X. It's just a store for OS X apps.

its going to be until at least July/August for the upgrades.. if somebody needs them now then why would you wait?

i think the rumored iPadv2s look ugly anyway.

I just wonder if anybody buys an iPad because they actually "need" it?

First off, FaceTime was not introduced until June. The iPad was announced in january so not putting a front facing camera on it made sense at the time. Secondly, iPad 2 will just be an evolutionary upgrade. it won't make iPad 1 obsolete so making fun of gen1 owners is ridiculous especially since many have had 9months with theirs already and you haven't had a minute with your gen2.

I'd feel like an over-eager, greedy, impatient fanboy once the new iPad comes out this year. I can't wait until the new iPad.

Don't get the iPad 2. I know for sure that the 3rd gen. iPad will be really great. Don't do it! Wait another 18-20 months and get the best iPad ever.

How else do you expect me to read The Times on the bog?!
And no, I am not going to walk to the newsagent to purchase a paper copy. This is not the dark ages.

I'm so glad you didn't get one too. While I'm enjoying my iPad, you just have fun playing with ... whatever it is you play with.

Just buy a product when you need it as long as it fits your needs. There will always be another version or product that will be faster, stronger, smarter than the one you buy today but who cares. Plenty of people got an iPad for the holidays and will enjoy it for years to come even if a new iPad comes out next week.

Lol.
I've lost so much time, browsing, Twittering, YouTubing, Facebooking and general 'apping', whilst on the can.
I always plan to spend '5 mins, max', which turns into 20 mins plus. :D

Each to their own, but I've been enjoying my iPad since April, and have derived immense pleasure and value from it.
When iPad 2 comes out, will I get it? Yes. Will I sell my first gen? No. I sold my first gen iPhone, and now regret it, as it was in great condition, and would've been a great thing to keep in my collection.

You stole the words right out of my mouth. I was just thinking how I wish I'd stop selling my early Apple products to pay for new ones. Gotta stop doing that.

congratulations, You know I hear there will be an iPad 3 coming out eventually, and you might want to wait for that then you can be glad you didn't get the underpowered iPad 2.

LOl exactly what I was going to say, @OP, please don't be crazy and get the iPad2, the iPad 3 is just 12, 13 months aways, you will be "GLAD" you didn't get it, the iPad3 is so much better.

I "needed" internet access on the road as I have been spending more time away from home the past couple of years, so I had to get something.

After some searching, the iPad was my best option. I didn't (and still don't) have a smart phone, so the iPad with 3G was actually the cheapest travelling internet option for me. Cheaper than a laptop with internet card. Bigger screen than a smartphone.

It didn't hurt that the iPad is incredibly cool.

Come to think about it, the ipad 4 will be even better, so I would say wait a couple of years more.

oh damn i forgot about the fact that companies updates products. >.<

ill just wait until they announce the discontinuation of the product so i KNOW that im getting the very best offer :)

Just because a company updates products regularly doesn't mean that the newest version is always the best. I personally like the 5th Gen iPod Nano over the new 6th Gen with the touch screen. Same goes for Sony's PSP Go, I much prefer their older model that actually takes UMDs. :D

Regarding the TC's original post I could probably take it seriously if the specs of the 2nd Gen iPad were released but as it stands there has been no details released only speculation. The people who purchased an iPad did so because it fit their needs, once all the details of the 2nd Gen iPad are released if current iPad owners decide to upgrade I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to purchase their used iPads because they have no need for the new features. Then those customers who sold their 1st Gen models can use the cash to upgrade to the new model.

First off, no one NEEDS an iPad. It is a cool useful tool to make things accessible while being more lightweight than a laptop. That's it. Smartphones can pretty much do the same thing and Laptops and Desktops can do more. Everyone that bought the iPad either did so out of fanboyism, to have a cool toy, or because it sounded intriguing and the specs sounded good.

For someone to wait for the next version is not stupid because it is a waste of money to purchase something you don't want. I also have been waiting for a camera and yes I find it valuable for one to be included so I passed on v1. So just shut up about the "I hear the iPad 3 will be released…blah blah blah" or "If you need it now, you might as well… blah blah blah" People will purchase one when they WANT one…

You should be banned, how dare you! :p

Lest we not forget that if people didn't buy these products then they probably wouldn't make an iPad 2 or a 3 for the other people to wait for.

I couldnt bare Apple releasing an improved model of my current product!

Take off, nuke Cupertino from orbit, its the only way to be sure.

Somebody must have gotten chocolate in the noobs peanut butter.

Since we are ranting, I get tired about the post on why I am waiting or glad I waited.

I wanted the first ipad so bad, but the lack of a front facing camera was the deciding flaw for me. I will most definitely be getting the next one, providing it has a front facing camera, which is almost certainly will. If it doesn't, then it will be a foolish mistake by apple, as they wont be anywhere near as competitive next year with the 10+ new tablets coming out.

Yes it was a foolish mistake, they could have sold millions if they had followed your advice, wait, maybe they did sell a few million...

Probably an off topic question but how much will the iPad 1's price depreciate once the iPad 2 comes out? I'm thinking of getting the first iPad soon but I guess I'd be better off just getting the iPad 2.

My interest for a tablet just occurred recently and I won't really be needing one for a few months.
