Well I apparently got it for using the word "idiot"
someone else here got one for a double post. Nice to see the system is being used in the spirit in which is was created and for all the right reasons.
Calling someone an idiot, double posting (intentional or not), bumping threads, creating duplicate threads with no effort to avoid doing so are all rules that are commonly broken here. So how exactly is this them using the infraction system incorrectly? A system designed to simplify and shorten the warning period for the moderators (they have lives too you know, and probably enjoy being able to simply browse the forums) as well as warning the offender and providing a history of infractions for both parties to see.
From what you've said all you did was call somebody an "idiot," while I feel there is more to the story, you have already admitted to violating the
Forum Rules.
Instantly Bannable Offenses
These can be one-time bannable offenses for which you will not get a warning.
Insults. Direct personal insult of another member, i.e., "You are an idiot." and all the variations. Why? Because this isn't grade school.
Infractions are in place in this forum to serve a warning and constant reminder about the violation, did vBulletin have other intentions for this feature, possibly, but ultimately it is the owner/admins of the forum who decide how each feature will be used.
And finally, if you still feel that you were falsely sanctioned for your actions, contact a mod or admin. Another forum that I am on (that also uses vBulletin) has a feature kind of like Wikipedia's edit history page, that allows you to see changes between post edits and I'm almost sure that the mods have that ability here. Since your original post has since been edited to remove the infraction, how about asking one of them
directly to review (instead of just making multiple threads and constant ranting without actually trying to solve anything). If it bothers you this much then that is the route to go. It doesn't bother me that I have to stare at my old infraction all the time, it serves as a reminder of what I did wrong.
