buy the 17" then

The 15" really should have a wsxga+ (1680x1050) option as does the 17" w/ its wuxga option.

I came from an Asus 15" w/ wsxga+. I miss the resolution dearly. The only saving grace this time around is I'll be hooking up my MBP to an incoming 23" ACD which is pretty much a must for me when working on big projects all day long at home (software dev here). The old Asus squeaked by, just barely, for 3 years all by itself. I move around too much for a 17".

I agree ... that's why I purchased my MBP this past March. Will update my MBP in late 2009 or early 2010.

What about RAM?

I'm waiting for a MBP that can hold more than a measly 3-4GB of RAM, which in this day and age is pretty lame on a pro machine IMHO, let alone if you intend to use your MBP for 3+ years. I'm certain 3.5GB RAM will fell pretty crammed in 2 years already.

But even today, run a 3D pro app in Parallels or VM Ware + Photoshop on OSX + OSX itself and 4GB already sound pretty thin.

What are the odds that Montevina MBPs will allow for 8GB RAM or even 16GB (once RAM chips are available)?

Dell's Montevina-based E6x000 laptops will support upwards of 8GB of DDR2-800 per information from Notebookreview.com that Eidorian linked to back in March.

Coming from a 2.33C2D with LCD my biggest want is battery life. An average wireless jaunt will get me only a bit over 2 hours and Santa Rosa LED only fetches another real life 20 minutes.

I want to see an advertised 7 hours before I buy again.

Agreed, thats lame. My 2.4 merom allways makes around 2:30- 3:00 max. Only if BT and wireless turned off and at low brightness maybe 3;30, but that wouldnt be reallife.
Maybe advertised 7 hours will bring at least 4:30- 5 hours:)

Wow,
how could you do that? The high res is great (a friend of mine has that)! If it wasnt that big and heavy I would go with a 17" model, but i have to carry it everyday, so its a 15" for me.

The price tag of $3190 especially for a laptop bugged me since I would be afraid to take it outside and have to treat it like king! Also for that price I would rather have the mac pro but I loved the size of the 17" and the led backlit screen is one of the most gorgeous screens I've ever laid my eyes on... it was very very hard for me to give it up.. even with that high pitched buzz screen whine.

If you can find two 4GB sticks, the MBP will take them. SR has 8GB limit.
