My point exactly.

:D

I love my G5, but I too don't really think day to day usefulness is going to be there on it in 2025 without some serious attention from enthusiasts. Even then...

Two more years and my SuperMac S900/250 will be 20 years old. It can kinda do some things... can browse the web again thanks to Classilla, can still play Unreal and UT online, but it's just dinosauric and can't even really communicate properly with any machine except my old PowerBook.

Macs have long shelf-lives, but I think around 15 years is where even with all the attention you can give them, they're just falling too far behind. Frankly, I'm surprised my 1GHz PBG4 Ti is as nicely functional for normal everyday stuff as it is, and it just turned 10. That's even with the HDD being upgraded from the original 4200 rpm to 5400 rpm though (and very shortly to SSD; it's got a rapidly approaching date with an OWC Mercury Legacy Pro), 512MB of RAM to 1GB, and a logic board replacement after the original had a VRAM chip die. Also TenFourKit and ClickToFlash. Otherwise using the web would be painful.

I've still got my old PB G4 Ti Powerbook. The screen is shattered but it boots and doesn't heat up at all. I stepped on it after setting it down on the floor next to my desk about 10 years ago. It's one of the best machines I've owned besides my G5 Power Mac.

Just replaced thermal paste on 12" 1.5ghz powerbook. Used VERY high quality thermal paste. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361878110.318876.jpg

That looks like way too much ArticSilver 5. Way, way too much. Were you trained by Foxconn in the application of thermal paste?

awe come on man I get my post deleted for mentioning the pirate bay, yet you can bring up every weed induced dream rabidz has to offer us :p

Perhaps the Mods see the entertainment value.

Is there something wrong with arctic silver V?

I'm afraid the issue does not lie with the paste, but with the applier.

BTW, why did a third drive in your G5 just pop up in your sig?

Is there something wrong with arctic silver V?

It contains highly conductive silver. With the extremely large amount your put on your heatsink, there is an almost inescapable chance that enough will ooze out and short out the logicboard.

My PowerPC days are done and gone. Sold my last one a month ago and not looking to ever by one again.I started on PPC 4 years ago and Only owned one Intel MacBook. But my days of good ol PPC are done.

Sad to see someone abandon ship, nevertheless, so long! Hope it was fun :3
