I don't think you're going to find a PC that'll run any of those applications for that price. That price range mostly consists of PCs that are good at emailing, surfing the internet and word processing, and not much of anything else. I had a PC like that several months ago (an Acer) and it ran Photoshop CS3 sluggishly. I wouldn't even want to try newer versions of Photoshop on it, much less Pro Tools. D: Illustrator ran capably on it, though.

PCs that can run those kinds of apps well enough for you not to want to chuck them out of the window start at around ~$600 or $700. HPs suck. Dells are all right if you know which one to get. Lenovos have a great reputation. I can't say anything about Asus, because I've never had any experience with them. Acers tend to be okay. Compaq = HP, and sucks; I had an awful one.

Good luck with your PC search, and I'm sorry you had bad experiences with your MacBook Pro. :/

question OP, are you using photoshop and pro tools professionally or as a hobby, because im guessing if your a pro you'll need a lot more resources to run those programs smoothly
BTW im trying to run photoshop CS5 on a acer desktop with 2 gb of ram and im lucky if photoshop even turns on

Hobbyist. That's why I don't really care if it's sluggish. The HP one matches up to my MacBook Pro's specs anyway and Photoshop CS5 runs fine on it. I can stick a 8GB stick to help with the scratch disks. Or even just use an older version of CS since they're practically all the same.

But thanks everyone. I know most are biased, but I also know that most people here are technical and own multiple things.

I'm getting that G5 pretty soon anyway, so I can use that for the audio/video editing and the mini for text editing.
