Do you NEED a new phone?

I’m still plenty happy with my 6s plus. If I can’t get the X with a reasonable wait (few weeks at most) I’ll keeo it for a third year.

I’m already laying way more than I feel the phone should cost, partially due to what I’m used to paying for phones, and partially due to my phone working perfectly fine still.

Truth be told a lot of my wants are aesthetic. I think the days of the forehead and chin bezels are behind us. I see too much wasted space here.

They can tout the A11 as a "powerhouse" all the want, I have my reservations about its longevity pushing as many pixels as on the X. I fear it may be like the 6 Plus, slow and cruddy with release iOS, even worse as we move on.

Honestly, with the track record of this current Apple, I expect a lot of teething issues with the iPhone X as they transition to the new tech.

I think that's natural partially though with First generation products that will experience imperfections, but become more refined as they mature with technology.

Not inferior by that much besides an OLED screen. I have an Note 8 and S8 so I'm good. 8 Plus for me all day. The X isn't that spectacular when you put them side to side.

It is inferior in design and specs, and even more so for those of us who don’t have every Samsung flagship device of 2017!!
Oh and you won’t have put the X and 8 Plus ‘side by side’ unless you went to Apples launch event.

Both are very similar in specs. But the limited availability makes me wonder how long I’ll have to wait for an iPhone that basically just gives me Face ID and Animoji features

You basically need to try both for yourself and not ask on here, because no one on this forum will have seen let alone used an iPhone X yet, you need to try the screen sizes out and have in the back of your mind that next year we’ll most likely see an X Plus, so I’m guessing like the Pixel 2 XL. Bigger screen size, modern design.

I’ve gone over and over devices in my head but will wait and try the X for myself before deciding what to do.

I went with iPhone 8 Plus.

Two main reasons. First, mostly the same internal specs. Perfected form factor with mature technology. Second, much like Touch ID at first, the Face ID will need refinements and will dramatically improve in the next generation.

Plus, I am not a fan of the notch.

I was all about the X until I did more research and ended up with the 8 plus. I'm coming from a 7 Plus, yes it's an incremental upgrade but I'm enjoying the phone.

My main reasons is the X screen isn't that much larger than the 8 plus and I think next year we'll see an X similar in size to the current 8 plus, which I'd be more interested in.

I do have a hard time justifying the price tag on the X. The software experience is essentially the same on the 8 and the X, and the hardware specs are very similar. There are some things on the X I'm not thrilled with in terms of software and usability.

I have been thinking of getting a Note 8... But that's a discussion for another forum

I actually think it’d be closer to iPhone 8 battery life.
It’s getting the same audio and standby battery as the plus as they both have the same battery size (similar) and the same chip.
In terms of usage though, the internet usage numbers are identical to the iPhone 8, this may mean that the larger screen and the predominantly white pages on websites may actually suck a lot of battery. which leads me to believe the battery life day to day will be close to an iPhone 8.
but i am curious what the comparison between the 8 plus and x are since i am looking for a larger screen.
More efficient with black, but not white. Also have to consider the X has a higher resolution. Which in the end balances out and why it’ll be right around same battery life

True. White is less efficient on OLED than it is on LCD.

Depending on if more apps adopt a dark mode (like how Twitter has and some recently added smart invert support) then it could then return closer to a + battery life. Along with using mostly black wallpapers (lock and home) can improve things as well.
i keep dark wallpapers on my 6s plus now to improve the battery life.

I have a plus model (I think it's a 6? ). Anyway, it's BIG. I don't like it all that much, as although it fits in pockets, and is 'sort of ok' that way, it could be better.

I'm thinkin (no idea until I have it), that the X just might be in the Goldilocks zone (or close). Or at least that's what they are attempting. So inspite of the Lockness Notch, and maybe some other crap, it's worth a go. :)

Dark wallpapers on your 6s plus don’t improve battery life. LCD’s are backlit and use the same amount of power wether it’s a white pixel or black.

I’m trying to decide the same thing. I’m coming from a Samsung S7 Edge. I’m worried I won’t like the smaller screen on the iPhone X, but I want the new tech and OLED screen...

If your having a hard time why not just buy the X and try it. If you like it you can keep it. If not you could always return it for a iPhone 8 since those are readily available.

That's what I suggested. You have 14 days to try the phone and see if you like it. Which I think is more than enough time to at least find out if you're comfortable with it or not.
