And that's good???

I bought my Logitech mouse in June 2010 and use it every day for maybe 8 to 10 hours and I haven't changed the (non-rechargable) AA batteries yet.

Maybe I remember it wrong. I might have put a new battery in once. I don't think so, but it's so long ago I can't remember. It has been 3 years.

But 2 weeks??? That's pathetic.

EDIT: I must have changed the batteries and forgotten about it. The Logitech software says they are 90% full and have 2 years, 36 weeks and 6 days remaining. Sounds about right.

I mean, it's obviously not ideal, but it doesn't really take much effort to swap the batteries out. I've used Logitech mice in the past, but I wouldn't pick any of the ones on their website over the Magic Mouse. Their Touch Mouse seems nice, but it's only for Windows.

the old g3 hockey pucks ruined apple mice for me. they never made a good mouse. the track pad isnt bad though.

I use logitech gaming mice.

I agree the trackpad is nice, but not as your sole pointing device. I like to use a mouse and trackpad. I am quite happy with that.

I bought the Mobee Magic Charger, first day of use today, let's see. However, the battery flat seems a bit flimsy. Otherwise as long as the battery last it seems like a very good product. I am sure it's been said before, I don't know why something like this is not included as part of the buy. When you spent £2,300 (or $3,427.17) on a iMac you expect to get the best of everything.

By the way, I disabled some of the features of the Magic Mouse, which has more or less made it a standard mouse, and now it's OK.

Since we are talking about Mouses. I bought a Logitech Mouse in 2007, I think it was called the MX 1000 or something. I paid £50 for it back then. I felt it was a lot of money for a mouse, since you could pick up a mouse for a £1. However, it was one of the best buys I have made. I still have the mouse, it works brilliantly, it's solid, and the recharge lasts a long time, it needs no battery. I have dropped me it many times, but it's still OK. It's now almost 6 years, so it was money well spent because it is a really good precision mouse. Then Logitech do make some really good quality products.

Based on certain features announced in both Mavericks and iOS 7, I have a strong suspicion that Apple will release new Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy mouses and keyboards alongside the the next iMac. With BLE... and perhaps a newer generation capacitive sensor... the next generation Apple mouse could have considerably improved battery life.

Personally I use different input devices for different needs:

Serious stuff
Magic mouse for using Apple apps/browsing right hand
Track pad for the same but with left hand
Wacom pad for PS/Illustrator/InDesign left hand

Fun stuff
Logitech G9 mouse for gaming right hand
Razer Nostromo Gaming Keypad left hand

Mouse? What Apple needs is a wireless keyboard with a number pad. This is the first thing I show a customer who has a new Mac. They always take it in to swap for a wired one with number pad.

None of that will save the Magic Mouse though. It's primarily problem is that it is over-designed and as a result has good aesthetics and poor function. The area that acts as a trackpad is too small to serve that purpose well, and yet is large enough to make it extremely prone to accidental gestures.

Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked (or saddened) if Apple simply got out of the mouse-making business and shipped trackpads with all iMacs.

While I agreed with this initially, I've surprised myself by not actually missing the numpad.
