Opened my 21.5" iMac Yesterday, Christmas Day. I had read this & other Posts about the issue weeks ago, so of course I used the Test & Yes, mine has Yellow Tint, Bottom Left part of Screen. I probably would have never noticed, had I not done the test. It's that slight. No flickering. No Screen Noise. BTW, mine was made week 45 & has the NVidea Graphics Card. But I have to tell you, this is the best Computer I have ever used. Fast, Stable, Quiet, & Beautiful. I started to think about going through the entire hassle of exchanging it, but I decided I'm keeping it. I hear there are a lot of horror stories & from what I read, I think the newer bunch have the same & other issues. Yes , I'm disappointed that Apple did not notice this from the Get Go. But I love this thing & cannot part with it. :) The only thing I can hope, that over time, The slight Yellow Tint, does not become a severe & noticeable Yellow Tint. I welcome opinions & knowledge from others.

Welcome to the club. I have this same machine and love it. I really contemplated switching it out for the next model with ATI graphics, but I have not found a single reason to do so yet.

So I just got my iMac from repair, and the yellow screen issue is still present, although it is not as prominent anymore. Has anyone else sent their iMac in for a repair and got a successful fix? I'm thinking about just waiting and getting another fix later when they for sure have perfect screens and just enjoy my new computer for now.

Are you going to return it? I have a very slight yellow tint in the lower screen (not just the corner like yours). But that is the only problem I have so far.

I don't know if I should return it since I just got it a week ago. However, If didnt test it, I woudnot have noticed the yellow tint issue. It is noticable when I open the whole white blank screen.

I heard someone said if I keep it, it will be getting worse and worse (more yellow) Is it true?

PS. I'm not sure if I should take some screen shots showing my yellow tint issue and see what you guys think if it

Right now no. I love this machine. Since the lower right corner is just slightly off, I do no want to go thru the hassle.

I have dealt with Apple for the last 20 years and since I purchased Applecare, if the screen does get worse, I would seek a repair later, when the problem has been solved.

The machine will be a week old tomorrow and it works perfectly right now, all apps and data are back. I can't bring myself to exchange it or take it in for repair.

Since my prior post, after 5-6 days. mine started to develop Intermittent Screen Flicker. I sent it back for an exchange yesterday. will get my replacement in about a week. It was 21.5 NVidea Week 45 Seagate HD

My week-49 iMac (maybe week-50?) had a slight yellow tinge, but the replacement (week 51) looks fine. I have been looking for faults on it for over a week now :D

My Base Model 21.5 Imac Cant Handle Gaming For Crap H

People i am very concerned, i am somewhat a avid gamer only with the computer since i plan to use Starcraft 2 and possibly other future games with my base model imac 21.5 inch, the problem is i have the nvidia 9400m 256mb shared memory graphics card that sucks big time when i tested it out on COD4 and it only does slightly choppy at its most suitable resolution 1280:720p when its is impossible to do 1080p without playing the perspective of drunk guy because there is so little FPS and much lag. My sibling made my dad get this computer when he saw the deal on macconections.com for 1049 bucks, and its 1250 with the warranty, there is no discussing or talking about this problem with my sibling as i know better because he is one stubborn extremist pro-apple fan bastard that wont even admit to himself that there is one single bad apple product such as the mighty mouse for example, which he has never mentioned a problem with somehow, so screw that ass-face; which has brought me to the judgement of you guys with unbiased suggestions on what i can do about this problem. I did a little research and i found that there is nothing good about this blasted cursed graphics card other than it does well on 1280:720p on god damned laptops and 1-2 year old imac models, it is a laptop and mac mini graphics card not a high performance all in one desktop card for F**Ks sake! I am in the worst case scenario and i knew the consequences after using COD4 seeing the reviews, and reading one person comment: "If you plan going to use this graphics card for gaming, that your in a really bad spot right now" Now i find this inexcusable that a unhappy mac customer should have to deal with this bulls**t in the first place because macs are supposed to be all around reliable products, apple knows better but instead they decide to slap in this piece of s**t god damned worthless outdated integrated nvidia 9400m 256mb shared memory junk into their best designed and successful computers base model, the imac, Now i cant switch to a different comp manufacturer because there is no way i am going to put up with pc's again so apple, shame on you, fix this problem, dont ever let me down, your not receiving Company growth during this depression because of this damned bs, your not a bunch of god damned 10 year olds on a 3rd grade project, you have the best designers in the world. Now i solemnly, humbly, and sincerely ask anybody, please tell me some suggestions to get out of this mess, a way to get the upgraded 21.5 inch 4670 ATI radeon dedicated memory graphics card, a way to make this stupid card work better, a way to upgrade to a better card (i don't think its possible because its soldered into the motherboard and integrated) or some desperate solution because the way it looks, this big ass problem is going to bite me in the ass repeatably during the years i have with it, now i love everything about this computer, i wouldn't have any other one, but i don't want my first mac experience to be ruined by apple and my cursed sibling, now i'm not sure it can be returned because ive have it for over a month and a half now, so please somebody answer this call, all the best to you, thanks..

I bought my iMac on november. After few weeks I have issue that computer won't sleep automatically.
I'm already reseted PRAM, SMC, tested hardware, but there is no lucky.

I'm very satisfied : (((

----
sorry for brilliant english, russian.

I've just sent my W51 21.5 back with a severe yellow tint issue.

Apart from that no issues.

No Issues at the mo

I have the 21.5" which I purchased in Nov.09,week 42, no yellow tinge at the moment. My only problems being with the Magic Mouse (posted elsewhere).:)

I feel there are more 21.5s out there with yellow only most folks dont see it or arent aware etc. Here at Rumors there are a lot of graphics people and they use the bigger display hence more 27s being looked at very close vs the 21.5. Other then that this thing has been awesome but when you spend $1500 on a computer you want it to be perfect.

I agree with you, but it isn't like the 21.5 is a "small' screen. It is still a big screen, but small when compared to the 27'. I just think it is more of a issue with that larger screen. Very few people on here are seeing any yellow on their screens. I for one don't see any at all.

I am completely satisfied with my 21.5. I bought the high end 21.5 at Best Buy the week of Thanksgiving and it is powerful enough to play all the games I care about...Wow, SC, and WC3.

However, it will be for sale later this year if they put the i5 in the 21.5.

Your mistaken on future games though and some current..

Now try COD4 on it dude WITH THE BASE MODEL not yours, your upgraded 21.5 would have been what i would have gotten, it will be the choppiest thing you've ever seen, sure i use WC3 like you on it on 1080p full high specs but that games 7 years old, you have to compare current ones, and for starcraft 1? thats just plain overkill dude, of course it will handle those games because they are so old, you could get a simple pc today and get the same performance, the imac is supposed to give you all round reliable high performance. But i plan to use this imac for several games including starcraft 2 which IM SURE you will get as you know its popularity and i can tell you, it wont be high end specs and resolution sorry. This is'nt the computer i thought i payed for, i don't a non-outdated piece of crap that is nvidia 9400m, im sure your 21.5 is working well so i envy you, be glad your not in my position because the difference in graphics cards between you and me Nvidia 9400m 256mb shared memory < ATI Radeon 4670 IS DAMNED HUGE

I am sure there is a big difference in performance, sorry your performance is so poor. The only future games I am interested in playing on the iMac is SC2 and Diablo 3; I have an xbox for everything else. And since the :apple: brand holds its value I don't think I will have any problems trading up for a couple hundred bucks once something comes out that is worth trading up for.

My week 46 iMac only had a yellow tint problem that progressively got worse. Other than that, everything was perfect.

It's in repair right now, so hopefully the new screen will be flawless.

My 21.5" ATI never had any issues. I got it the second week they were out too.

Yea... You bought the base model. What did you expect with a mobile version of a videocard embeded with shared memory? Nobody should expect that to handle current gen 3D games. Casual games sure, but not COD4.

The 9400m is fine for probably 70% of mac users. Many people aren't trying to play COD4 on their iMacs. You and I happen to be in the upper 30% of people who do demand a little more out of their computers. As an avid gamer I'm sure you probably would have recognized that the 9400m was definitely underpowered for your uses and I'm sure if you went into an Apple store and mentioned COD4 they would have pointed you straight to the ATI version (if not only to sell a more expensive model, haha).

Your sibling would be stubborn to admit that the computer can't do what you want it to. It's not really Apple's fault... It's his fault for recommending your dad buy an entry level model when you're a gamer, haha.

Maybe you can look to sell your current iMac on ebay and upgrade to the ATI version? I hear people get a reasonable portion of their money back on ebay sales. Actually they are going for about $1000 with warranty. Which means you could recover almost the entire cost. Then, if you're a student somewhere, you can buy the 21.5" ATI for $1400 from the Apple Store. That would come out to a $400 upgrade cost. Not too bad.

For general computing and video, the base 21.5 imac excels at what it was designed for. The 9400M G is not the card you want if you are a avid gamer. It excels at video though with a embedded dedicated video processor and support for Open GL. There is not much difference between the base model with the 3.06 Core 2 Duo and the $1500 21.5 or the 27 model with the ATI card for general computing tasks or video.

The only main difference is in gaming. Thats it.

And why are you complaining exactly? Did you even buy the imac?

I take it you're very young. You should just be happy that you got a $1200 imac on your hands and buy a Xbox. Stop being spoiled and thank your dad for the imac.

Compare your imac with other All in one's on the market and then tell me if it's under powered.

The 9400M G is a decent card for what it is designed to do. Highend gaming is not it's strong point. Video playback is as is Open GL. You have a powerful computing machine on your hands. Not a high-end gaming machine. Nor was it designed to be.

You just got the Mac. Convince your dad to hand it in get a refund and go buy a 24 model with a better graphics card for the same price. Argue that it has a bigger screen, that should convince him.

Problem solved. ;)

Well I received my 1st Imac on the 12th of Jan , 21.5i & have no big issues at all.
I thought i could see a yellow tinge on the screen , but after asking a dozen or so people to look at it , I think it was in my head. (and if it really is there it is not affecting my day to day use.

silent as can be (Which is so amazing) , only issue so far is Itunes needed to be re-downloaded as it was corrupt??
& Ical struggled to import dates & crashed , but apart from that i absolutely love this computer....

Dude! when u make a 1149 dollar computer thats a ultimate all in one you dont jam a outdated piece of crap into a beautiful machine like the imac. tell me, IN A CUSTOM PC OR ALIENWARE, I COULD GET THE DAMNED 5870 ATI GPU THAT MAKES THIS 9400 LOOK LIKE THE GOD DAMNED HORSE NEXT TO A SPORTS CAR; what the damn good of a 1080 display IF U CANT DO ANYTHIGN WITH IT BUT WATCH LOW RES VIDEOS ONLINE, YOUR OCASSIONAL 1080 DESKTOP PICTURE, AND IPHOTOS, i use word, powerpoint and thats about it for the imac as well as web browsing and gaming, ANY COMPUTER CAN DO THESE THINGS, BUT NOW THE IMAC CANT USE ITS FULL DISPLAY? MIGHT AS WELL SHRINK IT BACK TO DAMNED 1024:720 IF YOUR GONNA HAVE A NVIDIA 9400 GEFORCE BULLSH** PLUGGED IN AND INTEGRATED LIKE A VIRUS SO U CANT PULLL THE CRAP OUT. Even casual users of the imac would probably get a ATI 4670 to keep their imac future proof, the main feature of the imac is the 1920:1080P DISPLAY ON THE 21.5 WHATS THE PURPOSE OF A NICE DISPLAY IF U CANT USER IT, REASONABLE CHEAP YET OK GPU GOES OKAY WITH BIG ASS HIGH DEF DEMANDING DISPLAY, NOT THIS BULLSH**!!?! FAN-FU*KING TASTIC APPLE, you really hit a home run, and shaved alot of money off unsuspecting customers, ripped them off, so that they can pay 300 extra bucks for a ***** 140 bucks ATI radeon GPU that barely cuts it anyways, Apple is known to use outdated crappy GPU's so their displays can be used by real mac computers such as mac pro's, i shouldn't have to be hitting a god damned dead end with upgrades.. And by the way, iCANT SELL THIS THING, IMA HAVE TO KEEP IT, THIS IS WHY PC' USERS SWITCH TO MACS, BECAUSE OF LOWER CUSTOMER SATISFACTION WITH THEIR PRODUCTS, NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND, GET YOUR SH** OFF THE GROUND AND TOGETHER APPLE!!!!.

Settle down Jr.

Who said anything about selling it. If it is within the 30 days you can hand it in for a restocking fee and get your money back. And buy an another one that fits your needs. Like gaming. Stop being spoiled and just be thankful you have a good dad that buys you a nice desktop Mac.

Did you check the link in my former post? The 9400M G excels at video playback. The 9400M G will product visuals just as well as a GeForce 240. It doesn't take alot of computing power to produce a nice photo. Or play HD video. If that was the case every Blu-Ray player on the planet would have a high end graphics card inside of it. Sorry it's doesn't work that way.

HD movie playback has little strain on the GPU. The 9400M G will display visuals such as photos on your 21.5 screen as well as the most expensive Graphics card on the market. It will display video just as well to since it has a dedicated video processor built into the graphics card. Just for HD video.

Tell me how a better GPU helped in movie playback here. The GPU has little effect in every day computing or watching HD video. It has a effect on gaming thats it. And that is all it comes down too. So stop whining.

http://www.macworld.com/article/143636/2009/11/imacs_late2009_benchmarks.html

For gaming the 9400 GPU is not the card you would want. It cannot produce decent frame rates for good gaming. Nor was it designed to. I agree with you that Apples need to get a better GPU for 1200 dollars which is allot of money. They are behind in that department. Put they have the most powerful CPU's for a all in one on the market today. But just be Glad that it wan't your money that was spent.

Instead of whining like a 12 year old, you should be thanking your dad that you got a great desktop computer. you can still hand it in for a 24' model for the same price with a better graphics card if you're within your 30 day window.

Kids these days. Don't Appreciate anything. :(

It seems there is no discussion with you... It's not Apple's fault your family bought a computer without the dedicated videocard. Go to ANY computer manufacturer, except those that make dedicated gaming machines, and you'll see they have integrated video on ALL their low end machines.

Guess what, Apple doesn't claim to be a Gaming PC maker. Their low end computers never claim to work with the latest games. Their high ends... Yea they do.

I'd just like to say you are sadly mistaken if you think that ANY computer with an integrated graphics card would be doing well playing COD4, Apple or not. And you happened to get the ONLY model without the dedicated GPU. The other 3 all would play COD4 just fine so stop your complaining and either do something about it or get over it.

Hard Drive brand

I would like to know if my HD on my 21.5 (1TB) is from Hitashi or WD. How can i check it ? I went to System perference and it didn't tell me the name of the company but Model number and Serial Number only

THanks

go to Apple menu select-about this Mac
then click on more info at the bottom of that window
then select Serial-ATA in the left column
this should tell you the Brand and Model of your drive as well as all other pertinent data
