I'm buying the imac 5k soon and not sure which graphics card to get, the 395 or 395x? I'm primarily going to be working on logic pro x for my music projects but eventually want to start making videos on final cut pro. Is there much difference between having 2gb vs 4gb of video memory? How will that effect the overall performance when creating videos?

I've already decided on the i7 with a 512gb ssd and upgrading to 32gb of ram when it arrives so it will be a pretty beastly machine already. Seems to me like the difference between the 395 and 395x would be negligible. Could someone shed some light on this. Thanks

At 5k resolution yes there is a difference in 2 or 4gb... That is a lot of pixel on screen to process. Especially if you think of doing video or graphical work in the future.

A similar question was asked in this thread, but it was music only: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/graphics-on-imac.1960968/#post-22666759

Re video, you definitely want a 4Ghz i7. Re M395 or M395X, there is a modest improvement in some workloads but it's not gigantic. That said it's an expensive machine, the GPU cannot be field upgraded, and it's only a $250 difference.

See spreadsheet with FCPX and other benchmarks in this post: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...e-2013-imac-and-a-2015.1957498/#post-22594734
