I use ATI Tray Tools. There may be a console command for BF3 in game but I have no idea what. If you don't have tray tools it is very cool either way.
All kinds of cool options.

It's just pretty great to be running at that res at any setting really (hopefully AUTO is medium and DX10, at least). If you can do it on a 6970m (6850) there are going to be some pretty happy gamers at launch. I was initially worried my HD5870 would choke on Ultra @ 1680x1050. Not all that concerned now.

I played the demo for about 2 hours last night on my 2001 iMac 27". I have 8GB ram and the 6970 with 1GB. Played through Bootcamp using the 11.9 drivers installed.

I was able to play the game at native resolution (2560x1440) and 1920xwhatever without any issues. The default gfx setting of Auto looked great to me as well.

For giggles, I turned them up to high and, while the picture looked better, it wasn't THAT much better and I did not notice a difference in performance.

I plan to play some more this weekend so if anyone can tell me the keyboard combo to display FPS, I can do that and respond with FPS at various graphical settings - if that will be helpful.

I have tried everything to get the 11.9 drivers installed. Could you tell me where you downloaded it from and if there is some special installation procedure. Dying to play BF3.

Cheers.

Go to AMD site and download. Double-click to install. Follow directions. reboot.

Make sure it's the large driver package - 85 Meg or so.

Just the drivers - 1.2nb I think - say something about not being able to fund the proper hardware. The control center package works fine.

Though it's 11.9 you're downloading, they will show up ad 8.something. Not sure why but it will be the newest deivers.

Let me know if you can't find it and I can hop on the machine and dine the link for you.

What is the key to show FPS? I will change the settings in-game (IF they mean anything, I don't know) and report the differences for each setting.

CTRL + ALT + S will get them to pop up whilst the keys are pressed down.

Well, here's my story:

First of all, MAKE SURE you update to AMD's 11.10 beta drivers, made specifically for the BF3 beta. This will easily increase your FPS by ~10 fps.

Secondly, don't run it at 1440, your computer will severely bog down

Third...accept the fact that you will be stuck at medium settings, to be able to muster anything close to 60 FPS.

And fourth...maybe it's time to change computers. I bought my iMac a few months ago, but I was so disappointed with how it ran BF3 that I decided to sell it, and I built my own gaming PC.

Sadly, I just had to finally accept that the iMac was not a gaming machine, and gaming was just too important to me.

):

p.s. For those who question why I didn't do my research before buying, I just...I got confused a bit because of the 6970. I didn't realize it was a mobility graphics card, and I thought it was a "real" 6970. When I finally figured it out, this past week, I knew that it was no longer the computer for me.

After a lot of messing around with drivers etc las week I was able to get the bf3 beta running on my 27" thunderbolt iMac which has 8gb ram and a 1gb 6970m.

The game runs absolutely brilliantly on high settings, and is still playable for me on ultra... Unless of course the beta isn't actually applying 'ultra' settings like others have noted. In anycae, high looks amazing and plays great. I'm gonna download Fraps and see what kind of fps I'm getting but it certainly seemed 60+ at medium and in the 40s (I'd guess) at high.

Very surprised as I was expecting it be unplayable. :)

What kinds of resolutions are we talking about here? Terms like "medium" and "ultra" are completely useless without the used resolution...

Same for me... Whatever the settings i am running during this beta are very good. I am certain its not really ULTRA based on what they are claiming will be required to run ULTRA once the retail release is out. That said, whatever level I am running at now is perfect for me. The game looks great and plays really well.

FYI.. I am only using the 11.9 drivers. BETA drivers from any company scare me.

As I have noted (maybe in another thread), I have run the game at 1920xwhatever and the game looks brilliant. I tried running it at 2560x1440 and, while it looked OK, it DID look better when running at lower rez and gfx option set to AUTO.

For giggles, I tried ULTRA and 2560x1440 and it was definitely playable but looked crappy. Again, I do not think this is really ULTRA and the cynical bastard in me says that this is done in order to get more pre-orders. :)

I've been on the BF3 Beta forums and it's been confirmed that the Ultra Settings are not actually using "Ultra" textures. Infact, from what I read, even "High" is actually not the real High setting... well, it looks bloody good to me!

Yep, same here too.

Driver Issues

I'm having driver issues with on a new iMac for the battlefield 3 beta because bootcamp does not have 11.7 AMD drivers yet. Is there another way install the drivers I need I wasted a lot of time trying to figure it out already, or do just wait for apple to update the bootcamp drivers.

Bf3

I thought there was a prompt at the beginning of the Beta that told me I had to get the new drivers and it directed me straight to the web site to download the drivers. I am mostly illiterate and was able to follow the instructions and get it done. I am running iMac 27", 3.4mHz, 2Gb video, 16 Gb RAM and I think it ran the game as well as my PC with SLI.

I think there is some odd things going on with the demo. I don't think it is really accepting the changes from AUTO to anything else. I don't know if this is done on purpose in order to get more pre-orders (I'm a cynical old man) or if its not working.

From what I have read, to run on Ultra requires a crazy machine with SLI and all the latest hardware.

Whatever my settings are actually set at (regardless of what the video setting in game shows) I am pretty happy with it... that said, I think that if I see it really running in ultra, I would be shocked at how good it can really look.

What is the key to show FPS? I will change the settings in-game (IF they mean anything, I don't know) and report the differences for each setting.

I built a rig with a 2500k running at 4.2 GHz, a 580 running at 850/2010, with 8GB of 1600 MHz RAM and it runs maxed (full AA) at 1080p at around 55. bottoms out at 45, caps at 65.

so yeah, don't even think about running on ultra with that imac. if the rumors are true and ultra isn't ultra, i'll need another 580...

Just got BF3 need drivers

Just got BF3! I can't play it because I need the ATI Radeon 6970m 2gb 11.7 drivers!!!
I'm new at this so can someone please help?
Specs: Imac 27' i7 4gbram ATI 6970m 2gb.

Has anyone ran it yet with something similar to

3.1 i5
12 GB Ram
6970m 1GB

Debating between PC and Xbox and would rather get PC if it is going to give me a giant graphics bump.

From my experience, the beta's graphics on low on my i3 iMac was equal to what it's going to be on xbox. I'd say your far better off w/ pc. Remember, this is the 1st bf to be made on pc FOR pc since bf2. far superior gaming experience for sure.

Not necessary to run it at native resolution. In fact, bumping up most modern games to the 27" iMac's native resolution is asking for terrible FPS. I would say start at 1080p and go from there.

Both Deus Ex 3 and Witcher 2 run fine on native resolution (you have to play with other settings a bit though). For me, lowering the resolution is the last resort.

I'd definitely be looking to go for the upgraded 2gb gfx, just in case you want to push the resolution up a bit... considering the price of the system, it's not a massive increase in overall cost.

Grrrr, really wish I would have downloaded the beta, or EA puts out a demo, or a benchmark, or something.
