Just watch that video. I found it amusing he was using an Xbox controller. Are there really any gaming keyboards for use on a Mac running Windows?

Razer do a few keyboard with a 'Mac layout', i.e control, option, command and expose/dashboard keys

I played the Beta when it came out on my 3.1ghz i5 1gb 6970 with 12gigs of ram. Playing at 2560x1440 I was only getting ~25 fps which was a bit choppy with everything on high. I had to drop it down to 1920x1080 to get a "smooth" experience of around 45-50fps.

Of course that was only the beta so there might have been some optimization since then, but I doubt enough to call native res "smooth"

Im playing bf3 on iMac 27" i7 3.4ghz hd6970m 2gb. First 30 minutes 1920x1080 with auto video settings works really nice, but after that it starts to lag and become unplayable. What video settings do you use? I think it would works fine with optimal settings. I was waiting for this game really long and I choose to buy it for pc instead of ps3. I played crysis 2 and it works perfect. It has 4gb of ram, I didnt upgrade memory. Is that maybe problem?

Make sure you download the beta drivers from here:

I have the same setup as you and it works fine at that resolution/settings.

What is your fps at that resolution and settings (we are talking about 1080p and medium?)? I dont know if it depends od server, but few minutes ago I was on some server and at that resolution it was lagging, and was practically unplayable. I cant understand why it works that bad, I played crysis 2 on high settings in 1080p without any problems. I'm dissapointed.

I have the 27" imac with 6970M 2gb and 16gb ram

11.10 drivers and my video settings are the recommended ones tones down a bit, some things like shadow you don't really need high quality because theres so much going on you hardly notice it

however I'm still trying to fix the screen tears it seems like I can't force on vertical sync

does anyone have a solution?

Just out of curiosity what FPS are you getting? Press CTRL + ALT + SHIFT and it should show it, i would appriciate it alot! :)

sure I will check for you when I get home
btw I didn't even see the vertical sync option in video settings lol it's a lot better now

I'm getting 30-40 fps on hight settings on 1080 and 40-50 fps on medium settings. But, it still lag, I dont know why.

Vsync is in there, but I don't see triple buffering, so you're going to want to force it via D3DOverrider anyway.

I'm really scared for this game. I've just ordered my 27" iMac with the 2gb 6970M. This is my first Mac and I've been a PC gamer for a long time. I'm going to sell off the PC parts as soon as the iMac arrives. I'm currently playing BF3 at native 1080p on full Ultra with an overclocked GTX570. Clearly the iMac will be able to run the game, but I need consistent 60fps in my PC games. I'm just hoping I'll be able to get that by dialing down the resolution and playing on Medium.

I might be having buyer's remorse before the product is even in my possession... bah. I told myself not to play BF3 before the iMac arrived (so I wouldn't know any better) but I have no self control. :(

there's still rubberband lag, maybe it can be fixed by an upcoming patch?

I'm getting 30 to mid 40 fps at 1080P with mostly medium settings

Is there a downloadable demo of this game available?

I googled for it but most of the results lead me to some shady sites.

Thats insane, if your a PC gamer keep the pc and use the iMac as a monitor. iMacs do not play pc games as well as a bespoke PC built for PC Gaming.

Out of interest are any of you over clocking your GPU using the Catalyst Controller Overdrive function? I've done a comparison between the default settings and then cranking up the GPU Clock settings to the maximum allowed Overdrive settings here are the results:

Default Settings (680MHz GPU Clock / 900MHz Memory Clock)

Overdrive Settings (710MHz GPU Clock / 1000MHz Memory Clock)

It's not a huge leap but still squeezes a little more from the GPU.

I always have my fans set to an average of 1820RPM when gaming so using the overclock settings I'd hopefully keep the GPU suitably cooled - any opinions?

How many you play bf3 mp on your iMac reguraly? Im switching 1080p and 1600x900 during match. Now Im playing pretty smoothly, although it lag sometimes. I have problem with my mouse which is very imprecise, and tomorrow I will buy logitech g9x. There is no lag while Im running or walking, but there is when I move mouse. Maybe it's normal, but I didnt use to it, because I played bc2 on ps3 and that navigation was way more smooth than now on bf3.

The problem is I planned on paying off (most of) the iMac with the money I made from selling my PC components. If I don't sell the PC, then I can't really justify the iMac.

And I'm sick of dealing with all the minor things that spring up from building your own PC. I hate it when things go wrong and I have to be my own tech support. That stuff was fun to tinker with when I was 18, but I'm an adult now and my time is more valuable. I want my stuff to "just work."

So I'll take the hit in performance... I just wish Apple offered the 6970m in the 22" iMac, or let you downgrade the screen on the 27". The problem is that stupid, unnecessarily high resolution. :(
