I don't know what Apple has against removing or reducing bezels. It seems like they went super slim but totally ignored the huge black bars around the display! This current MacBook should be replacing the air by now, do it in two sizes and put in thunderbolt 3. Take the design and make it cheaper so that iPads and macs overlap.

Update the tower and Mac mini! Workstation folks ain't buying no iMac pro.
I just sent Mr. cook a request for the new mac mini to have the 3.1 or 4.2 I7 quads.
I'd also like the ability to throw 2 1t SSDs in there :) that would make a nice in between workstation for
us low end audio pros :)

I think they'll keep it at 3TB so they can increase SSD storage and push people towards those ridiculous prices. With the 21.5", they've removed the 2TB Fusion Drive so the maximum is 1TB, and the maximum Flash storage is 1TB.
I don't see why anybody who wants, eg, 2 TB of storage would go for the 1 TB SSD + 1+ TB external HDD over, eg, 512 GB SSD + 2+ TB external HDD.

But I think you are right that the available SSD storage size could be the relevant factor. By only offering 1 TB Fusion Drives in the 21.5" iMac (and only 3 TB Fusion Drives in the 27" iMac), people get conditioned to get an external HDD when they need more than that. And thus Apple can at a not-so-far-in-the-future point-in-time switch to SSDs only without having to sell it as a reduction in max. available storage space.

Moved on to a 13 space grey pro inch and haven't looked back. I do miss having a crazy portable machine, but I got sick of the beach balling and average battery life even while just browsing safari. Still hanging on to one USBC port with no TB3 support :( Still think this should be Apples $999 base tier machine.

They're all still so expensive. They should cut the prices of the MB and MBP and discontinue the MBA.

Take a look at the Mac lineup. It's their lowest selling category of products and it's split into SEVEN different product categories. MB, MBA, MBP, iMac, iMac Pro, Mac Pro and Mac Mini. What a mess.

I really like the fact that they updated the whole laptop line and the iMac. Finally the 4K iMac gained a discrete GPU!

However, I am really shocked that they still sell HDD-only iMacs and 128GB SSDs. The "cheaper" option for the MBP is unusable with only 128 GB of storage. They should equip every Mac with at least 256GB SSD storage. The 4K iMac is also unusable with its 5400 RPM HDD...

How big is the SSD cache in the Fusion Drives? Is Apple still using the cut back 24GB size with the 1 TB Fusion Drive? Hopefully the 3 TB Fusion Drive is still paired with a 128GB SSD.

1TB Fusion Drive: 1TB HDD + 32GB SSD
2TB Fusion Drive: 2TB HDD + 128GB SSD
3TB Fusion Drive: 3TB HDD + 128GB SSD

Having a MacBook '12 is like dating a model, it attracts everyone and you feel like a superhero in public, very expensive but you get almost nothing out of it beside surfing. "Pros" are cheaper for what they do but.....

I edited video on a MacBook Pro in 2005. This MacBook computer is much much much faster than that yet people make statements like the MacBook is deficient for multitasking. Get a grip people. It's not enough for Pros, but it is enough for almost everyone else. Computers are amazingly powerful now. If you make money with your computer, this may not be enough, but for everyone else it probably is. My 2013 MacBook Air is slower than this and crushes nearly everything. Computers are just fast now. It's great.

Also the keyboard on the Pro is still terrible. I guess it's user hugely preference but I do not like the new or old butterfly.

Why would anyone be buying the MacBook for heavy video editing? Wouldn't you get a MacBook Pro instead? It's like the tech press has to find a way to ding this machine so they say it's not capable of doing something it was probably never intended for in the first place.

Yikes... you gave in. Apple without SJ is slowly jedi mind tricking people, and you gave in. I'm not talking about some out dated technology. A 1000 years from now, if there is some product tethered to some cord, it will be awesome to have some simple release mechanism like mag safe so you don't break the product when you forget to remove the tethering. Tim Cook took that away from us. Let me know if I'm conceptually wrong, and I'll stop complaining.
A 1000 years from now, we wouldn’t be using cords. Actually, this is kinda happening right now. We have devices that last a full day and even more without needing to be tethered to the wall. Kids are now well trained to not trip over wires. Stop drinking the SJ kool aid.

I'd hoped for a 2nd port on the macbook, and both of the TB. That would have made it possible for me to replace my 11" Air from 2011... sad..

I do see it, if they added a 2nd port and made them both TB then it would be in too close competition with the Macbook Pro 13" which sells at the same price.

What apple don't get is that it's a question of size and weight....

Probably because they haven’t figured out of to remove without making the Macbook look fugly like certain competitor laptops...

The MacBook should be much cheaper by now.
Plus that 480p FaceTime camera is an embarassment in 2017.

Make it $999 and $1199 and get rid of the MacBook Air.
Cleans up the product matrix as well.

No, actually it should be whatever configuration the buying customers will agree to consistently purchase with the highest price the market will bear. No for-profit company on the planet, Apple or otherwise, exists with the guiding hope to give you more product for less money.

I still have a 2015 MacBook 12", I got one thing I wanted, but not the other. They keyboard was the first - the new touchbar rMBP keyboard is way better then first gen, and the second was either upgrading the port to Thunderbolt 3 or adding a second port on the other side (or ideally, both.) I have a thunderbolt raid array I use with my desktop, but it sucks that I have to use the network to transfer things to my little MacBook and I can't take advantage of the speed it has.

This seems like the last primarily spec bump update for this model and next year will bring the 12" MacBook v2 redesign.
Not necessarily, look how many years they've used the same design for MacBook Air, I'm ok with it though.

Kind of stupid for them to send the m3 version of the 12" MB, the biggest difference is getting an i5/7 in there and 16gb ram. Would have really liked another port, and updated Retina display that can reach the same brightness as the Pro.
You don't get an i5/i7.
Intel just renamed M5/M7 to i5/i7-Y.

I believe Apple's thinking is that the bezels actually serve a purpose, especially when working with photos and video editing.

Have you done a side-by-side comparison of similar editing tasks on monitors with and without bezels over several hours? What is your analysis based on that testing? Have you established that the bezels do not provide any advantage?

I only comment on the 12" macbook keyboard: I guess this was Apple's plan. To create such a crappy keyboard practically anything feels wonderful after that. Then come up with a slightly improved but still utterly useless keyboard which still feels great compared to the original. No need to improve on the already-great one they had in 2015 models and before because they can't - they'll just go back to zero and start slowly creeping up so people can keep telling how the keyboard improves every year! O-M-G. Mind blown.

You can keep the one port pink book. It's still more fetish object than useful personal computer IMHO.

A higher res screen, modern processor and 16GB would get me to upgrade my Air in a nano-second while I wait for 32GB Pro to come around and be the ultimate portable work machine I've been waiting for - for years now - I guess in 2018 or 19..... ...wide bezels, "huge weight" (who remembers the first Compaq "luggable" or Kaypro, lolz) and all.....

So... you currently have an Air and you're doing serious work that would benefit from 32GB of memory? Something doesn't smell right with that. :) You can see where I'm going with this. It seems like you're wanting specs that are unrealistic or unneeded by your workflow, otherwise you'd have a MacBook Pro right now, right?

just ordered the 27" with the i7. looking forward to an updated machine! current old beast is from 2007 that we've swapped out some internals over the years but it's time to put it out to pasture. we're more than ready for the new kid on the block!
When 'pasture,' you mean reformatting drive, and doing a clean install to pass on to a worthwhile individual then great. If you are using a ten year old machine, then it can be used by someone else. Please don't trash it or put it in a closet. Even older macs with intel chips are great machines and if still functional they should continue to use.

I agree. Or, at a minimum, offer a 128GB storage option for $1099.....$200 price drop with less storage....kind of like what they did with the base MBP.
