Im actually taking my chances and buying it as soon as it refreshes. Ill do a thread to review any bugs i experience. Ill do benchmarks and test it on gaming.

I only suggest waiting the extra month as that's what I did when I originally ordered the iMac that is listed in my signature. In the first month of its release there was a bug that affected a few users that was apparently annoying; it was worked out internally within the first month of release, so luckily by the time I ordered it, it had long been resolved. Not saying that such bugs are guaranteed, though it makes sense to be wary, especially with the iMacs.

Are you also updating your imac too? I see you're using a 06 imac... xD

I am, though not to another iMac, at least not this round. I bought a refurbushed current generation Mac mini Server (which I'll use to RAID 0 the two 500 GB drives as a single 1TB volume and run the client version of Snow Leopard as a normal Mac); and I'll be getting a 15" MacBook Pro not too long (hopefully) after the next refresh. Ordinarily, I'm an iMac person, but it's beginning to look like I'll be more mobile over the next computer (4-to-5-year) purchase cycle, so it makes sense to put more into the laptop, while having the desktop to store the things I don't need to take with me. Though for a while the mini Server will be my only active Mac and from the Early 2006 iMac, it's still a pretty decent upgrade, given the specs and the fact that the 320M, even for an IGP, beats the ATI Radeon X1600 I'm rockin' in this iMac. Should be a nice set up. The plan is, next computer buying cycle, I'll be less mobile and I'll replace both with whatever the equivalent to the 27" iMac is at the time and whatever the equivalent to the 13" MacBook Pro is at the time (provided both are upgrades in terms of graphics and speed from the 15" MacBook Pro I'll be buying this round).

In any event, I'll probably wait until Lion comes out to buy the 15" MacBook Pro which, given the new delay with Sandy Bridge announced this morning, might time perfectly with my usual buying strategy of waiting for the initial bugs and kinks to be worked out and for enough reviews to come in before pulling the $2000 trigger.

I just don't think that Apple will release the new MBP Sandy Bridge before intel will fix the bug

I'm buying an iMac SB not MBP

The bug exists in desktop and mobile chipsets so it affects what would be going in the next imac in addition to the macbooks.

However it has already been fixed and they are producing new chipsets which will ship in 1-2 months.

New iMac first Q2 2011?

Thanks everyone who referenced the buyers guide. I have an iMac which does not have much life it in. DiskTools saying the issue is with Video RAM, and I wouldn't know where to start with fix that- and the machine hasn't been keeping up well anyway with my growing iTunes and iPhoto librarys. I priced out a new one at $2,000 which is not a small expense for me having two kids.
So I have been on the fence about buying a new iMac, and did one last quick on this site before submitting the order and noticed the buying guide saying to wait. My question is that the iMac buying guide may say to wait, but it also says it was last updated 205 days ago. And at the same time a posting about first half 2011 iMac update. So- is the MacRumors community expecting an announcement in the next Month or two and an update iMac coming before June? Thank you.

The iMac was last refreshed in July, so yes, it's safe to assume that particular refresh will occur before June. How soon from now? Who knows? I'd say that late April or early May isn't a bad guess. As for MacBook Pros, anytime after February 20th is fair game. The Sandy Bridge bug isn't really much of an issue as corrected chipsets are already shipping.

MacBook Pro - Specific dates for upgrades in 2011??

I want to purchase a MacBook Pro 13' immediately.
But apparently it's near the end of its product cycle. Its most recent major upgrade date was in April 2010. I wonder when are going to be the new updates. What enhancements are we talking about? Anybody knows specific dates for 2011??

Well, it's out now.
