Re: A PC user's view on the article

Even I know that it is "supported", yes you do have to buy a firewire or USB drive. I don't see that many PC's with a second drive either. But really how often do you copy a CD?

I don't know of many PCs with 2 CD drives (read or writers). And those few I've seen are custom built. I did have to copy one CD because I was afraid of one of my girlfriend's kids scratching the disk, but that is about it. About the only time I write to CDs is to back-up a computer or to store very large (100+ MB) files.

And as another article mentions, how many PCs come with Firewire? I haven't even seen a PC with firewire. Granted, PCs started using USB before Macs, but Macs quickly made USB the standard. Quick, for those who use PCs, how many USB items do you have? On my girlfriend's PC, she has a digital camera...oh, and if she wants to use my scanner, that would be another item, but that is about it. Whereas for my Mac, I have several items using USB: printer, mouse, keyboard, CD-burner, Zip drive, Imation Superdisk drive.

But until Firewire devices become more common place, perhaps PC users don't find much reason yet to have firewire. At this time I don't have any Firewire devices even though I have the ports...but at least it is nice to have the option, just in case I get an iPod, or a similar device.

WTF?!

Where does the author of this article get off saying that PC cases give him "easy" access to ports? Even if the case is on the desk next to him, he has to fumble through monitor cords, power cords, a keyboard cord, a mouse cord (cause, ya know, no other computer company that ive seen is smart enough to put USB on their keyboard) and all those other cords in order to plug something in. Whereas, on a new iMac, you reach behind the ergonomically designed half-cantaloupe and pop a cord right in or out. If that much reaching is too much for you, rotate your iMac's base 90 degrees and have the drives and ports on either side of you. It's all part of Apple's feng shui plan to make your computer room the coolest room in the house.

But that's just my $0.09 (adjusted for inflation)

To be fair...

MS does make a keyboard w/ 2 usb ports, the Internet Pro (?). I have it, and its pretty nice to have that on the keyboard. But once again, it was on the mac first.

I haven't seen any OEM's that come like that though.

I've listened to it...

Anybody wonder why there was an idiot with his head behind a iMac at MWSF today?

'Twas me, trying to discern it the soft whirr was the drive or the fan...couldn't do it amid the clatter, but it sure wasn't noisy.

Does it have an internal speaker or mic?

Yes, to both questions.. The PDF from Apple for developers with all the goods clearly show that the new iMac has both an internal speaker -and- a microphone. Now the question for me is, is the microphone hidden on the edge of the screen somewhere or is it in the base?
