I get this to, but only im adding my music collection in, and it will add maybe 20 songs and stop, then freeze. Then if i open safari im unable to access any thing. So i restarted my network and it gives me a self assigned IP to which doesn't help. But i dont' bother with itunes im perfectly fine. Also im using the latest.

seems to be a graphics problem

The only common link I can seem to find with others who are experiencing this problem is the graphics card. Check and see if any of you have the ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT. I have tried every fix I have read about, and none of them work. It isn't a network problem, a scroll wheel problem, a permissions problem, a library problem, or a migration assistant problem. That leads me to believe that it is this card that is the problem. Unfortunately, I don't have any fix to offer if this is in fact the problem. But maybe Apple will eventually figure it out and off an update that will actually fix it. Until then, I will just continue to be frustrated with lack of answers.

I called Apple Tech about this problem yesterday...they acted as though they'd never heard of the problem before....by reading these threads, it's clear i'm not the only one experiencing this freakin problem! It's very madning...you think they would be on top of the issue seeing as we can't spend money on their store if it freezes up the computer everytime you try and use the iTunes store....

Get your acts together Apple!!!

I give up! I've tried everything....I guess I won't be buying anything off iTunes for a while!

I stopped having freeze after I downloaded itunes from the apple site, like a previous poster noted. Mac Pro.

Hi all,

I'm brand new to macs - Had my new 20" imac only 18 days (I love it - it's such a joy to use generally) but it keeps hanging, not restarting, not shutting down when I ask it etc. It seem to be itunes related. Sometimes after I have used Itunes I get the problem, sometimes it wont start up at all. When I open the force quit window its usually itunes thats 'not responding' but when I try to force quit it - it doesn't make any difference!!! I wait and try it again and makes no difference. :(

I must have hard reset my imac around 20 times - which I don't like doing.

I have updated to the latest OS X 10.5.6. I unistalled itunes as recommended from my local apple stores advise and downloaded from apple itunes site and it's no different.

I have just ran the disk utilities repair permissions after reading above and it states a few things have been modified and can't be repaired  should I worry??? and after making the window bigger to read the lines now that has frozen and given me the rainbow wheel.
I have opened Force quit window and that says Disk utility is not repsonding as I type aarrgghhhh. Pressed force quit - which it seems to have closed thankfully - it has given me the send report to apple window - yes, and it just sits there!!! I have seen about 6 of these and only 2 of them have actually sent and closed themselves down - this is just hanging there!!!! So after only 10 mins since my last hard reset I guess I will have to do it again now

what is going on, what am I doing wrong??? can anyone help me please??

UPDATE; I think I may have found my problem after reading another thread on here - I think my problem was my ext harddrive used for time machine causing the problem.

I am having the same issues. It appears to be related to iTunes. Hard freeze up immediately after either clicking on itunes, or mousing/scrolling. requiring a hard/quit restart with the power button. Anyone else seeing solutions? I did see some mention of possible involvement of external volumes containing iTunes libraries on fire wire. I have just switched my external volume from firewire to USB to see what that does... Thanks

Still having problem with iTunes freezing the computer after switching the external iTUnes library from firewire to usb. Also, had another crash after doing the upgrade to to 10.5.6. Some other sources were suggesting that 10.5.6 fixed the problem... not on my machine... the last time, the only significant application running was iTunes. No browsers, no mail, address book, iPhoto, iMovie, eyeTV, etc...

Any suggestions?

Did try all that is explained before, cleaned pref. etc... No changes... ITunes still freezing the iMac (Intel) after 1 to N songs played...

I just installed the latest update for itunes (8.1). So far so good, haven't noticed any of the old bugs. Hope this helps!
