That still would have not made it work. I tried it once and it kernel panicked upon startup because it was missing some kexts. And unless you added the missing kexts from the Leopard Developer Preview it will not work. Even if you install it via target disk mode.

youre totally right

i did work with some kexts but it did and does kernel panic usually within 24 hours of being turned on.

not a hoax

it is indeed possible to run Leopard on an iMac G3. however, the one the guy posted is a fake. we will need to see system profiler, about this mac, system preferences, etc.

the only thing you will need is kexts from a tiger install, or a developer preview of leopard, and a G4 upgrade on these machines.

also, you will need xpostfacto to accomplish installing leopard

here's a REAL successful install:

everyone always jumps to "it's fake"

IT IS POSSIBLE but impractical, install in target disc mode, replace kernel with modded one for g3 support (it is somewhere on the net), add missing kexts, rebuild extensions.mkext, but even then you would have to replace the kernel every time you update

Edit: just read the lowend mac article, on that 400mhz imac it could have just run with the modded kernel

it looks sweet , but as most features of leopard have to be deaktivated and lots of kext and kernel modding would it not be far far easier if you like just the look of leopard to install debian distro of linux and make it look like osx leopard , i mean its possible an runs certainly better then leopard on the iMac g3 , everything is ready available to download and you would have a linux that even steve jobs would think he sits in front of a imac g3 running leopard

redone

heres my system know running the darwin 8 kernel with a special build of leopard on it that i made the system still cant handle the reflective part of the dock or the blue indicators but this time my backgrounds the blades of grass to clear up confusion about the menubar speaker and opacity. I apologize about the photo quality its hard to take a picture of a crt in low light

Humm.

The only way to get Leopard running on a G3 system is to run that dev build that still had G3 capabilities in it, but you could run next to nothing.

the other way is to install a G4 CPU in the G3 system. mod some files and add some kexts from the dev builds, with the help of xpostfacto, and a few kexts from tiger.

but to install and run the release version of Leopard on a G3 system without a G4 CPU cant be done, sorry bub.

either you did one of the 2 above or you made a theme to look like leopard using 10.4 or below. the G3 iMac didn't have a new enough GPU to support Leopards semi clear menubar.

but a G4 upgraded G3 system, is technically not a G3 system anymore. hell just look at what the Yikes G4 was ( a G4 upgraded B&W G3 with the ADB port removed).

sorry about the semi grave digging. but i just had to voice what i think about this topic.

imac g3

to be clear this new version i made is a custom build not a release version

Get snow leopard on it and I'll be impressed. :D Would it be blasphemous to put a new mac mini in there and just route the ports around? hehe

Oh my god. Wow!

That kind of looks fake. But it is definitely possible, I am extremely fond of that design, and I'm looking to buy one. I'd love to run at-least Leopard on it. *Holding Leopard box in hand*
:) Please tell me how to do this, and if someone who notices this post, maybe they can tell me how to replace a PowerPC processor with an Intel? That would be great.
Cheers :apple:

You can't just swap the cpu for an intel one, you would have to replace the entire logicboard, i too would love to run leopard on my second imac i am getting soon

Ahh I see. But it is still possible right? Is there any way to do it? I LOVE those designs, and I would beg to have atleast SOME version of OS 10 on it. I'm pretty sure it runs Tiger, but hardly any programs run on it anymore.

its possible. if you can fit the Intel parts in (motherboard, RAM etc) then it will work. i doubt it would fit unless you were to use mATX or an Atom chipset.

they can only run up to 10.4.11 at the latest i think.

yes all iMac g3 can run tiger ,need to update firmware if it had not been done before with OS9 , but apart from that its just a simple install

and still most good reputable programs have as minimum requirement osx 10.4 tiger , as the early intel Mac's came with tiger too
and thanks to apple upgrading is at least in terms of a mac mini with intel just not economical as you need the Mac Box Set
instead of the cheap snow leopard disc , and even upgrading to leopard first and then to snow leopard does not really come cheaper

Where can i Find it

ok after months of hard work i did it i got leopard to run on my g3 imac 400mhz with 384 Mb of sdram
ok now i have pictures included but before im told these are fake i dont know photoshop im a begginer at seashore(native gimp for osx) if you want you can check their not photoshopped
ok now the dock if you notice barely reflects and the indicators are white triangles and the menu bar isn't opaque now keep in mind the graphics chipset on this thing the blue ovals wont show so i did have to change those the reflection and opaque menubars just dont show it cant handle it
core image and quartz extreme wont work
now ive tried this on other imacs it never seems to be the same install i suggest trial and errorr

sorry about pic quality im using a $99 dolar canon powershot as you can tell from the imac im a student w/out money

Where i can download it, i have an iMac G3 with OS 9.2 and :apple: Mac OS X Panther

People. If you want PROOF that machine is running 10.4.11, please look at the Kernel Version in his System Profiler. Darwin Version 8.11.0 - Leopard has Darwin Version 9, without this its Tiger, Not Leopard as hed have the Tiger Kernel, so its tiger (whatever he says about developer versions is tosh - I have 10.5 developer somewhere, and it reported Darwin 9, and it certainly was 10.5 not 10.5.2). All hes done is changed the UI and the About this Mac box. He hasnt done ANYTHING BUT THIS. He has the wrong Kernel for 10.5.2 (Should be 9.x.0 if he had managed to put 10.5 on there, a modded 8.11 kernel is still 100% Tiger. Not Leopard. Whatever you claim.). Unless your machine has a G4 CPU, running Leopard is impossible. There. OP Proved Wrong, by his OWN admission.
