I know this is an old thread but,...

I'm running a G3, 400mHz Indigo, Tiger 10.4, 1gb ram, 120gb hd, and VERY MUCH interested in running leopard. Anything at least 10.5 or better. Are any processor upgrades still available? I'm an electronics tech so if any board mods are necessary, I'm capable of doing them. Would LOVE to increase the speed of this thing! And 10.5 would open up vastly more usable software programs. Any help or advice will be APPRECIATED! I enjoy tinkering and I've taken this puter as far as I can for fun. Also, been thinking of removing the CRT and replacing it with a same-sized LCD panel--would remove a lot of weight, heat, and look unique! Anyone care to jump in...thanks,---Rick

There is absolutely no way to run 10.5 on a G3. There are no longer G4 upgrades being made for the iMac G3.

Personally, I wouldn't bother trying to install Leopard on a G3, even if you could. Sure, there would be a cool factor, but it would be painstakingly slow and unuseable. I installed Leopard via Target Disk Mode on a 700MHz iMac G4, and it was unbearable.

You would be better off buying a 1GHz+ eMac and installing Leopard on it. Anymore, you can get 1.25 or 1.42 eMacs for under $80, in which they are pretty much a Mac Mini with a heavy CRT.

Another way to get the look of the G3 without the slow performance would be to buy a new mini, stick it under the logic board in the G3 and wire the display to it.

Fake!!!

Ok look VERY closely at the pics of the dock. Notice the light under "Dashboard"? That indicator is ONLY in Tiger. They removed the Dashboard's active indicator in Leopard.

I've never seen this thread, and as jpross123 bumped it, I read through all of it. And I am shocked at how gullable & quite frankly stupid you all are to believe that is real.

ok after months of hard work i did it i got leopard to run on my g3 imac 400mhz with 384 Mb of sdram
ok now i have pictures included but before im told these are fake i dont know photoshop im a begginer at seashore(native gimp for osx) if you want you can check their not photoshopped
ok now the dock if you notice barely reflects and the indicators are white triangles and the menu bar isn't opaque now keep in mind the graphics chipset on this thing the blue ovals wont show so i did have to change those the reflection and opaque menubars just dont show it cant handle it
core image and quartz extreme wont work
now ive tried this on other imacs it never seems to be the same install i suggest trial and errorr

sorry about pic quality im using a $99 dolar canon powershot as you can tell from the imac im a student w/out money

100% Fake! This is a modified Tiger with SHAPESHIFER and a theme to make it looks like Leopard. If you notice how the open apps are triangles, that gives it away. The only way I know how you could do this is by adding the G3 to the .plist containing compatible Macs (or something like that). Either way its 100% fake.

Agreed. Its an obvious fake.

Why did you bump such an old thread? And do you really live a block or two from Penn Ave? I may take a walk to say hi to you in person

Hey, I have Leopard running on a white iBook :)

No tricks or anything else involved-I just ran the(correct) installer and it installed. It's also completely useless for anything.

BTW, @Intell , @LightBulbFun , and several others of us have versions of Leopard that will run on quite a range of totally unsupported systems. I'm not smart enough to do this :) - I'm using a lightbulbfuns's image. It will work on any Mac with a G4 upgrade-that's the key to it. Lightbulbfun worked for a while on getting the retail release of Leopard to work on a G3(in particular the iBook I mentioned above) but we were never able to get it to boot without a KP.

Funny enough, though, Tiger CAN run on the 60x series processors. I've run lightbulbfun's modified kernel on both an 8600 and 9600 with their original 604 processors, and it works but is slow.
